Fifty four minutes twenty seven seconds of shear joy, you had me mesmerised from the beginning to the end. I can’t think of anyone but you that could make such a long restoration video and keep it so fascinating all the way through. Watching you create the mouldings with hand chisels reinforced the fact we are watching a master at work. Thank you very much indeed.

Totally agree with Mark Harris! The fine attention to the details of the moldings, to getting the finish just right, to repairing the pediment - I was totally immersed. I chuckled to myself when you pulled out an old case full of items and then opened the box of small design curves - is there anything that you don’t have? Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Roger Los When I moved in with my now wife I scratched a rather unusual 19th century chest of drawers, which I’m getting close to trying to repair myself. My wife has two gorgeous pieces from the 18th and 19th century that I’m scared of breathing within six feet of. If there’s a guy you can guarantee dropping or pushing over the most expensive piece in the house it’s me!

I was thinking in the Middle Ages you would have been the farrior that fixed the hooves on the King's horses. Where one little file off and his horse would be lame. All of the knights would beg you to look at their horses before the joust or crusade. You would also have had time to invent the piano hinge or something in your blacksmithing area. In more modern times a heart or brain surgeon. What ever time it takes to do it right, you would do what you could for the patient and also be a mentor to your residents. You would go around everyday and tell your patients a joke of the day. But I think you are happiest as a restorer of special items that mean so much to other people. The fact that you can explain it to me and it makes total sense is miraculous. Luckily you have a video recording of your talent for us to enjoy. I keep coming back to your channel.

Hey Tom.Greetings from another Tom.I have been making stained glass for the last 26 years and had my share of damaged doors to deal with.I have never seen old putty removed with a heat gun.We use a hack out knife, a thick bladed knife that you can bash on the back of,like a chisel. As long as you go with the grain, old putty just flakes off in big sections...usually.With heat you risk thermally cracking the glass. When glass cutting, also get a jar lid, cut a piece of cloth, and soak it in WD-40 or machine oil.Dip your glass cutter in the oil before each score. It makes a huge difference in glass cutting cleanly.I love the fact that you often have band-aids on your fingers.Welcome to the club.My work day usually only really begins when the first blood is drawn.Love your videos.I am learning new stuff all the time.

I love watching your videos and the seeing the quality of your restorations. You are very informative, as well. It's not very often that I would feel like sitting through an hour long RU-vid video, but there's never a moment of boredom.

I'm fairly certain that if Tom Johnson narrated an hour long video on The Art of Watching Glue Dry, thousands of us would sit enthralled, taking in every word of wisdom. Another fascinating video, thanks for sharing. I've decided that "looks pretty good" is the same as, here in England, we would say "looks bloody amazing".

I usually enjoy these videos, reveling in the calm, the skill and the artistry, but this one had me feeling really fricken anxious! It was so broken, so many parts, so much that could have gone disastrously wrong. DUDE! Wonderful job. Who'd have thought a restoration video could give a man an adrenalin rush 😆

Hi Thomas, good morning. I am José de Lisbon Portugal and I am completely addicted to your videos. I am passionate about restoring wood and in my free time I like to recover furniture and old chairs. I'm sorry I'm not close to you, I think I'd spend the days at your side to learn your great art. I wanted to hug him and wish him the most success. I learn every day with you. Greetings from Lisbon.
