This is my laptop I use every day, all videos on my channel are edited by this laptop, dell m6600 is really a durable machine, it can run 24/24 all week without no problem. It edited a lot of videos for me, today I decided to clean it up and upgrade a few things:
The keyboard broke many buttons so I decided to replace it
The battery is broken, I bought a new one
I upgraded 1 more ram 8gb
I bought 1 more ssd hard drive to install windows 10 pro operating system. So my machine can run 2 independent operating systems in parallel thanks to my dvd rom drive.

I have to say, that is a pretty solid laptop for 2014. It has 4 ram slots, dual cooling fans with vapor chamber heatsink, and a thoughtful inner design. Surely usable in 2022 in my opinion.

Precision M6600 is a 2012 model tha Precision M6800 is tha 2014 model which it's what i'm upgrading to from a awful sony laptop on tha side tha network adapter is a 2014 model because Wifi 5 came out in 2014

My old laptop died on me just yesterday. I think it was from 2006. It served me quite well over the years. Not everyone is attached to machinery. Some people don't feel anything and would not try to cleanup an old laptop that won't serve them.

An excellent upgrade, clean and re thermal paste, wonderful detail most of us miss. That laptop has many more years in it now. In my experience Dell are brilliantly compartmentalised, where Acer can be a pain. Having said that my experience of taking laptops to pieces is very limited. The laptops I pull to pieces are usually to be upgraded for Linux or dual boot. Hence they are not new, top of the range gaming laptops.

My 2013 Thinkpad has a Windows 7/8.1/Linux Mint triple boot setup with a Samsung 860 Pro SSD (also in CD slot) for 8.1. Went for 16GB of RAM installed from the factory. Still using as my regular daily laptop. These older machines aren't done yet! 😉

Why did you buy a battery with only 65 Wh when the old one had 87 Wh? The new battery isn't as powerful as the old one was when it was new.

Before it was like and Xbox one! Now it's an Xbox one digital i would have kept the cd rom drive tossed HD and just used SSD cd rom could be used for movies etc...

THis laptop is very capable for upgrades!!Why You don't put 32 gb of ram,the cpu can be upgraded there are far more strong I7 then this one ,Video card can be upgrade!!I have HP-8770W which is equal to this and I upgraded to the max and it is a monster!!

Why didn't you install it as UEFI (GPT) and put the Crucial BX500 in place of the optical drive? You should have installed it as UEFI and it made the most sense to put the HDD where the optical drive is. Anyway, you can convert it to GPT in 2-3 minutes with MBR2GPT.

Hello I have the same laptop M6600. I used to play dota2 etc all day and still it was working fine. One day the screen display flickered and then went black. Again when I reboot the screen is fine then again screen flickers and turns black. If I press any key it reboots. What do you think the problem might be & how can I rectify it. Currently I have given it for chip level repair. They are telling the graphics card is having a problem

It is very strange that they did not install win11 in a workaround. Nice heatsink and could be upgraded to i7-3940XM. Upgrade wifi to 6E, directly into the mini pci-e slot (but will *whitelist* allow it?).
