We accomplished SO MUCH in this episode. We were all over the house but especially in the Main Bedroom, Dining Room and Kitchen.
We had plumbers come and Kevin got to take a hot shower…finally! We got the sub-floor up in the kitchen to find some very nice, intact, pine floors. Papa Restoration has the cabinets right at the finish line and we wallpaper the main bedroom.
We got a great deal of painting done and work more on stripping the tiger oak mantel. Some of our citizens brought us gifts and Laine does a quick fashion show.

I love your show. However, I am noticing you two are not wearing PPE and protective eyewear when stripping paint and doing demo. With age of those houses, you need to be careful about lead in the paint. Please be careful.

Y’all put so much of yourselves into each restoration. We have been restoring/renovating/redoing/whateveryouwanttocallit our 1896 Victorian home for 26 years now, and the thoughts of anyone else living in my home brings me to tears. Wish I had had someone like y’all to watch and follow when we began this!

Question: how do these houses get such a build up of animal refuse? Why were so many over the years trying to caulk around the fireplace, unless it needed it? Why are we having to fix so many things which needed some TLC-that no one knew how to care for? Where’s the hope for these houses after we pass them on, when they are getting worn? Where’s the book for this? When you two can’t do the work you’re now doing, please consider this much needed project. Bless you both!

The two wallpapers, the one you put up and the one you found, are both gorgeous. I hope your father's doing okay and not sore at all. As a clumsy human, with bouts of vertigo, I manage to trip, knock over things, and fall all the time. The storage turned out great.

I never got a notification for this, so I get it 5 days late! Which means I get your next one 'early' !! I'm commenting as I'm watching...1.Dear God, Kevin! You just watch Pappa hit the floor & then not help him up! 😂 2. Heart eyes over Lainy restoring that chandelier! 😍 3. Kevin's bad-ass work on all that flooring!!! WOWIE!!! 4. I wish the beebee hole could've stayed in that glass! It would've added character & mystery! 5. There's a technique to get rid of vertigo called the 'Epley Manuever'. IT. WORKS.LIKE.MAGIC!! RU-vid it. I had vertigo for a week & did the maneuver & bam! Gone! You guys are doing such an amazing job! I love these episodes! My husband & I love your channel so much!!! ❤

Thank you Zanna. I felt really helpless as he was falling but I was holding a really heavy cabinet that he had worked hard to create so I had to gently set it down before offering any assistance.

My dad would've rather fallen, cracked his skull & broke a hip rather than yell for help...especially if it was a choice between him & something he spent his time building! Glad Pappa Restoration is OK! And you are too! Sometimes those pesky old houses fight back!

I agree with Kevin, that Rain Wash paint color is so soothing. I love how well it coordinates with the fireplace tile and the wallpaper. When Papa Restoration fell I about had a heart attack!! I am so glad he was not injured. I really enjoyed this vlog. I love the education you give us along the way; like the oil cloth flooring. And how to properly clean the lamp shade. Wow! You two and Poppa Restoration are amazing! I’m in the midst of binge watching your restoration videos (every Saturday I watch at least 4 or 5) and I am tired on Kevin’s behalf just watching the kitchen floor(s) demo. And as a fan of most things historical, I applaud your work ethic. The blood (seen many times here), sweat (of course, you’re doing physical labor in the South at Summertime) and tears (of joy) looks worth it as Pearl becomes beautiful again!

Wow! Pearl is coming along beautifully. Laine, you did a awesome on that Lotus lamp. It is beautiful n definitely needs to stay in Pearl. I also loved the story you shared about Judge Blau n his wife of 41 yrs. It brought a tears to my eyes. I lost my husband in December of 52 years being together. I couldn’t even think of walking away from this house knowing we had 21yrs. of memories here. I’ve had so many offers to wanting buy my house but just can’t do it. Looking so forward to seeing how you do the kitchen n dining room. Thanks so much for sharing. ♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍

Our 1894 house has the original printed linoleum in the upstairs bathroom. Along the seams, someone came along and tacked it down with galvanized flat-headed nails. It's pretty worn where the foot traffic goes. but we really love it.

My go-to colors are red & green, so that dining room wallpaper really grabbed me. How many times do we say, "Oh, it's just a few cosmetic things. That won't take long." Instead it's like the snow ball going down the hill; by the time you get to the bottom, it's huge! The kitchen floor cloth is great too. Our breakfast room, kitchen, and laundry porch excavation started with 1970s indoor/outdoor foam-backed brown and gold carpet. (So gross!!) Layer 2 was 1960's white and silver 'jazzy ovals' linoleum. Layer 3 was black and turquoise 10 inch parquet lino from the 1940s. Finally we reached the original 1931 'castle floor' lino in mustard yellow, teal, and dark red-brown, with black in between, and black tar stuff under that. The original tile counters and backsplash in the kitchen are yellow with turquoise edging, and a black/turquoise pattern trim strip. We refinished the vertical-grain fir sub-floor in the breakfast room and left it 'distressed'. The kitchen/laundry we tiled in charcoal-slate.

In 2000 my oldest son and I were in Paris. The hotel brought our laundry back with tags just like those you found. I thought it was so cool that for the longest time I didn't wear the clothes because I didn't want to take the tags off.

Fun and informative as ever - thank you!! Once you rehang the lotus fixture, make sure to demonstrate its wonderful superpower under a black light. Of course since it's uranium glass, you'll get silly questions of "is it radioactive and going to kill me? is it dangerous like the dreaded asbestos and killer black mold?" LOL!

I just saw an old Twilight Zone episode, and it had hanging lights just like the one you cleaned in this video, granted the episode was in black and white, but at least I knew what color those lights were. As soon as I saw them, I was like, that's just like the ones Pearl has. Haha

I just got back from a trip ( 1st time) to Natchez & Vicksburg & surrounding area! Just beautiful & I took in as much history as I could. We were going to visit family in Jonesboro AR area so we drove through Helena AR...looks like they are trying to fix it up/ restore it & we saw your Tappen-Pillow house. Can't wait to see you finish it!

Everything you have done on this house is spectacular. That piece of floor cloth was gorgeous , it would be awesome if you somehow framed it and it stayed with the house. I feel Kevin's pain, I took up nine layers off my kitchen floor to get to the heart pine. At one time there was a floor cloth or some sort of flooring in the middle. I can't wait to see what you do with the kitchen. Thanks for all you do for preservation.
