Amazing aircraft, my uncle was one of the navigators on the Vulcan that crashed on 9/11/1959 in Kings Lynn. Devastated his twin sister, my mother. (Still alive). We are very proud of his service and on Easter Sunday are blessed that it never had to drop a nuclear weapon.

I've got the book written about the raid on Port Stanley, and one thing it mentions outright that you (only) get between the lines in this documentary is that every Vulcan was basically hand made. In order to get each airframe assembled and working as it should many, many parts and subsystems were hand-fitted. That meant that each and every Vulcan was a little different from every other Vulcan. Each had it's own quirks, traits, little foibles. In a system that complex, that amounts to something very like a personality. One may be will be sullen, another reluctant, still another might be called angry and require a very careful hand. But each is it's own creature. For whatever reason, XH558's character was that she took care of her crew and brought them home, even when things went wrong. I can't think of any higher praise for an aircraft.

I saw the Vulcan fly a two air shoes. She was something very special. It's a sad thing to think it's over. Simply amazing performance for a bomber.

I was at Bruntingthorpe for the first flight day, i was invited to attend for my contributions to the fund. I was also there as the only public person for the first engine start day, Walking beneath her left wing to the test site with the chief engineer who did the restoration was an incredible moment.I was awarded one of her instuments on a mount for a momento. Watching her fly in RAF didplays at Finningley when I was a kid I adored her then and still do.

Watching this, lump in my throat - the hairs on my arms on end with that 'howl' at takeoff . . . there are no words (sigh) I was fortunate enough to see a Vulcan in flight, at an airshow on the last trip one made to Canada around 1980. Sincere thanks to all involved in the restoration to flight, and the continued maintenance, of this very beautiful & grand lady.

When James Bond was still Ian Fleming’s own ‘no women’s lib or political correctness’ 007. I recall Argentina thought being bombed on Falklands was impossible. Both Moscow and Beijing have tried to copy it to this day. Against war of course, but realist, I wish we could keep some of all these engineering marvels operational. Ty.

Unfortunately Aircraft built from modern high strength Aluminum alloy have a shorter service life. The high strength Aluminum is more prone to fatigue and corrosion than the older softer alloy. This in addition to the complex nature of modern aircraft makes keeping the airworthy much more difficult and expensive

You know back in the late 1980's if anyone made a bold claim to me that a Vulcan Bomber in the future would be restored to flying again in 2008 I would have laughed at them and called them mentally insane. Back in the 1980's I had all Vulcan Bombers forever grounded inside with moth balls around it after October 1986. Video sights and sounds do no justice to the energy experience of being right there in person feeling, hearing and seeing. It is impossible to describe the energy experience of seeing a Vulcan Bomber best take offs and flying displays back in the 1970's close up at Air Shows to anyone who has not been there just like it is impossible to describe the energy of what an Elvis Presley Concert or The Who with Keith Moon Concerts are like to anyone who has not been to one back then at that time.

Omgoodness, what a sad day😢 Not because she was a nuclear bomber, but because she was the predecessor of concord, of which there are also no remaining flying examples 😢 Yes, OK, fuel guzzling, but surely incredible innovations from the past to be improved upon, but kept as 'flying ambassadors'!

Would be neat to take an airframe and modernize the controls and electronics. Not to a military standard but just enough to keep it flying for airshows and such.

Takes me back 52 years to RAF South Cerney , as an Air Cadet at school we went there for glider training , winch launched from the ground . Still have my logbook 🙂 Pride of place was a white Vulcan . It had an issue in flight and was forced to land there . The undercarriage took out the powerlines of the railway on an embankment on approach . Sadly , the runway was too short , rolled of the end and sank into the ground . Was eventually dug out and moved close to the hangers , the runway was too short for a takeoff :-(

That raid was a prime example, that with excellent training, experience, and discipline, old school can still get it done. Argentina taking the Falklands would be like Cuba taking Puerto Rico from the United States.....only attacking Cuba is like slapping someone from the table for the U.S. Argentina is way down on the other side of the Earth from Britain.

Squadron Leader Barry Masefield had me cackling for a min there... talking so calmly about unconventional ejections from a Vulcan and your dentures greeting the landing gear on your way out. Then again, he sat on that wing intent on ferrying a nuke to the USSR numerous times. Nothing really gets to him any more...

The USAF was able to keep the B-52 in the sky since the 1950s, and now a British company, Rolls-Royce is repowering them. If the British government took that kind of initiative with these aircraft the US wouldn't have had to maintain such a large bomber fleet and NATO wouldn't be so dependent on the US for bomber coverage.

22:19 to 22:39 First time I've actually seen a Vulcan perform that move, not many figter / inteceptor jets could have matched that. It's almost on par with a Phantoms manouverability. Moscow was left wide open, no suprise they were in a panic.

Is this recent? I remeber adiscussions in late autumn that due to insurabce issues the transport per flight has been decliened and the Vulcan may have been disassembled and transported per road and hence loosing it's licence to roll out as well.
