@@koteletten84 if "by take care of it" you mean constantly have to take it in to get repaired after it's just a few years old then sure. I keep a car maybe 8 years and drive maybe 175,000 miles in that time. I want a car that need nothing more than regular maintenance (oil changes, etc) and things like tires and breaks. You aren't going to get that with any German cars. And when they do start needing repairs they are absurdly expensive. A German car like a BMW is good for maybe 40,000-50,000 miles. Then you are better off getting rid of it. It's just a bottomless pit that sucks in money after that.
@letsplayclassicgames5024
@letsplayclassicgames5024 3 года назад
@@jimv1983 by modern BMW standard, sure, I wouldn't keep one past the warranty. But you have bought into the stereotype that BMW's are bottomless money pits, which is absolutely false. This era and back BMW are phenomenal cars, and if they were properly maintained they do not constantly need big exspensive repairs as you say. My family bought a 1 owner 94 325is coupe with the M50B25(Inline 6 cylinder motor) with 40,000 miles in 1999. My mother daily drove it 100 miles round trip for work for 6 years, then continued to drive it daily 40 miles round trip until 2009, and I proceeded to drive the car from that point until 2011. When I sold that car, it had over 120,000 miles and only went in to the repairshop once, for a new radiator and hoses. Pretty cheap to keep that car for 12 years. And it is still on the road to this day with the person I sold it to. I currently daily drive a 97 328i with 178,000 miles and a 2003 330i with 158,000 miles, I would without hesitation load up the trunk with luggage and go across the country in either car right now. If you take care of these cars, they will take care of you, and there are plenty of older BMW's that hit 300k-400k miles. In my experience they are extremely easy to work on and that comes from someone with little to no wrenching experience. Usually the inline 6 motors only need a cooling system refresh every 75,000 -100,000 miles and they are good to go. Which is not much, you will pay that to keep any used car on the road. I have owned 4 old BMW's and they have been some of the most reliable cars I've ever owned.
@jimv1983

I used to work for a company called Griots Garage and I ran their car care school. They make a product called Leather Rejuvinator that literally can make those cracks almost completely disappear and without using die at all. Another thing is the outside temp. It is not exactly warm in Chicago right now and that affects how the pours of the leather absorb conditioner/rejuvenator. I used to love applying GG Leather Rejuvinator to a customers car in the heat of the summer. Close it up and let that soak in to the seats for a couple of hours and it would be like a miracle.
