Hope someday we can Sail USS Constitution around the world as a show of Good Will and Force.... It would be one hell of a sight the USS Constitution escorted by a Carrier Battle Group sailing the ocean again.
Everybody loves the Constitution......So do I .....My first boarding of Old Ironsides was in 1941 as my Aunt took my brother and I to Boston for the day.....I can recall almost every moment of that particular day, including no charge to go onboard and the museum was part of the boat and not in a separate building on shore.....That included muskets, swords uniforms, etc.,etc.....hanging on the beams and walls and NO locks on them as I observed in my numerous visits later in life......Little did my brother know that in the 1950's he would spend 2 years helping to overhaul that ship as a rigger who deals with the many many ropes and lines.....let's hope that it will last another 200 years plus.......
Probably cost a lot of $$ to replace all that copper. But it's worth it; this ship is a great part of our history. Makes that history seem more real. I really need to go see it again.
Well, she's been restored and sails again.... I was there in September 2017 and although only 2 decks were open to the public, it's an amazing experience. Don't forget your photo ID if you want to get on board though (mine was safely in my hotel room first time I tried to get on board, and I had to return later in the week). She's still an active serving Service ship, the oldest in the world
Just got back from Boston and I must say this was the highlight of everything I saw there. The Navy personnel on board were fantastic. Would love to go back and see her sail.
Working on this history is a Labor of love.... I trust the Navy has plenty of protection around this ship to ward off the trouble makers in the area...
The narrator presented the USS Constitution in a drab and flighty manner to visitors and tourists devoid of dignity and clear meticulous explanation that should attend such an august iconic Vessel in the annals of Naval and World 🌎 History.
So are you think they should have gotten James Earl Jones or Morgan Freeman to do the narration? The only problem with that is that one of them was an Army officer and the other was in the Air Force, not a Navy guy to be found.
I've known the history all my life and built many models of it as a kid in the 60-70's. It chokes me up today at 60 to see this great vessel still being maintained and still sailed and guns fired. Eat that Russia. All I can say is they better move it to the center of the harbor and anchor it there or rioters may launch an attack on this TOO. I'm already sick about the destruction and vandalism of so much of our great history by those cretins.
Right??? I was waiting for something about her restoration and hopefully some interviews with the civilian restoration team of NHHC Detachment Boston. We see them working in the background throughout the video too, lol.
