President Rodrigo Duterte and members of his delegation convened with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to reaffirm the long-standing friendship between the Philippines and Thailand and to renew the common commitment to bring the countries and peoples closer in greater cooperation.
In a joint press statement, President Duterte said that their discussions were productive and fruitful.
Both leaders vowed to do their best to strengthen cooperation in bilateral, regional, and international levels to effectively address challenges and threats including transnational crimes such terrorism, violent extremism, piracy at sea, human trafficking and illegal drugs.
Aside from stressing the importance of cooperation in defense, agricultural, energy, tourism, education and sustaining economic advancements, the two sides also emphasized the need for the full and effective implementation of the Declaration of the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea and expressed determination to complete the Framework of the Code of Conduct in 2017.
The President recognized Thailand’s continuing key role for the growth and stability in ASEAN. He also thanked Thailand for the hospitality and warm reception given to him and the Philippine delegation as he completes his tour of ASEAN in Bangkok, where the ASEAN Declaration was signed 50 years ago.
