In this video we share our custom design modifications to our spankin' new 2016 Fleetwood Bounder class A gas motorhome. We didn't get to take the design as far as we wanted but we feel it's a great step in the right direction towards a more modern RV.

All I can say is THANK GOD someone is doing this! The simplicity down to the small details makes me so happy. And going with one wall covering (the linen look is lovely, btw) is so needed! I don't know what RV designers think they're doing using so many patterns and such, because it doesn't look good! This looks beautiful, however. Thank you for taking this on!

Thanks to all who have commented, and especially those that have clicked over to our site to voice their opinions. I wanted to touch on a few of the questions/comments: - For those concerned about the "white" furniture don't worry it's not white. - Those recommending dark furniture to stay cleaner - Actually the Excursion had black furniture and it looked dirty as hell because it showed dust like crazy. Think of it like a black car that looks dirty unless it's perfectly spotless. - The tech and mods video will be coming very soon, we promise!!!! - Gas vs. Diesel will be addressed over our year of travel, most likely on our website in text with a final video later in the year. - Tesla batteries: that would be a dream :)

Man there are no REDs or blacks in there thanks for that I don't know why that has been a predominant styling since the 70's. Silly stripes and such just to show off it's a camper? and forget ever matching those outrageous schemes. Yours is so much simpler I like it.

GREAT improvement! Definitely a more modern update and you have the key: simple and clean makes a small space look huge! It's too bad on the cabinet doors--a flat cabinet seems like an easy option to offer. Love it!

wow. i actually thought the choices you were limited to (no cabinet changes, etc) would not make a huge difference but .. WOW. the new coach is simple, the modern linen walls and the plank flooring and simple fabrics just blow me away. FANTASTIC! nice work guys

Absolutely love it!!!!! I can't imagine why the RV industry for so long has put all the flowers and swoops and obnoxious patterns and colors. I hope they listen... most people don't have their sticks and bricks all covered in crazy designs and colors and we don't want our RV's that way either. GREAT JOB!!!

I love the linen look walls and the simpler fabric choices. I think it is much easier to relax in a place where fabric is neutral and patterns are subtle. Great work!

Love the new wheels...well done...we drive a Sportsmobile 4x4 Chevy Duramax diesel van so counter space is a premium...we now use 2 Nuwave induction cooktops and the Nuwave oven for 95% of our cooking...instead of the units installed....the induction cools immediately so can clear the counter...and easy to set up outside as well...granted...we are only talking 3 month road trips at a time..Love your banter...keep it coming and congratulations on your new ride...sweet

Boring? Heaven's no! Those details were fascinating. As for the result, that is hands down the nicest, most livable decor I have ever seen in a class A motorhome. My goodness, what a dramatic improvement. The only things I wasn't wild about were the things they restricted you from changing. The cabinets, for example, would have been better the way you described. Oh well, baby steps. Oh, and the table is 1000% better looking than a booth and does seem way more functional. P.S. I can't believe they rejected your request for a less busy decal design. I wonder why they're so inflexible about that? So odd.

We're not a big fan of the new paint jobs. The dark colors make the interior hotter in the sun. We don't spent winters in cold areas where heat absorbtion might help. Matching the designer colors and the swirls makes any paint job repair expensive. We would have preferred white with simple stripes. But we were buying used so we had to take what was available.

Well we are all different, I would have went with darker wood on cabinets and with all the lighter colors gives it a richer look and I do like carpet in the bedroom. But what I'm waiting for is the Solar and batteries and all the fun stuff and storage.

Looks really sharp guys. It's nice to get away from the trendy look and simplify things. I like the floors. I think you're OK to have carpet in the bedroom. Carpet will feel much nicer to the tootsies on those cold mornings plus there's a lot less traffic there to get it dirty. Looking forward to learning about the new solar, batteries, controller, and gas engine. I think a lot of people are opting for gas now. It's a lot cheaper from the start. The fuel is easier to find. Maintenance is a fraction of the price with the gas engine. Right off the bat, saving around 6000.00 buying the gas engine is a lot of fuel to travel to more of those cool places on your list. It looks really good guys! Good on you both for trying the change. Our family are on our 3rd diesel pusher so we are very interested to see how you like the mechanics of the gas coach. Your interior is a welcomed calming of the typically choices that come in standard units. If RV companies listen to their customers we all stand to benefit.

Hi Guys, I honestly think you did a great job, The interior is very classy and elegant, jet simple, I love the idea of using plain colors and materials, thru the hole coach make s it look bigger than it is, and on the outside I agree with Nikki, the paint design was popular 10 years ago, but not anymore...congrats on your new coach,

I really like your overall scheme. It's very modern and elegantly simple. Very clean and the texture choices give it the subtle changes but keeping the same color family allows it to flow throughout the space. I agree on the cabinets. They would look better if they were more modern looking. I don't know the demographics of who the Bounder is aimed at but I believe they could use an update. I've seen other "wood" facings that have a more modern look to it. I understand the idea of wood flooring throughout but if you're stuck with the carpet on the pullout then the bedroom ties it back in. It would look funny if the only place that you had carpet was on the pullout.

I really like your design changes. This is coming from a 70 plus person. Much cleaner modern look and not so much like every other manufacture. Paint scheme is much cleaner looking and flows from front to back with out circles in the middle of the design.

I agree with you about the sides of the slides being too dark. They should match the RV base color at the very least and be lighter in color (anything but black) so they are more visible to everyone. This is even more important at night so someone doesn't simply walk or drive into them because they are not visible.

You did a great job with what they let you have control over. I didn't comment on your video with the RV reps, but all I heard from them was no, that won't work, you can't do that, you can change some colors but not the layout or cabinetry and on and on. They were so negative I don't know why they were even consulting with you?

Overall it looks great. I would love to see plain slab front cabinets instead of the fussy raised panels. The only gas Class A's that look really nice inside right now are the retro Winnebago Braves. Super clean and sleek. We just bought a travel trailer, and while I love the functionality, it still looks like my grandmothers house.

Love your design changes! Really don't understand the prevailing 70's style in most RVs ... but I think what you were able to do with this one, was amazing! So, when is this going to be available on the retail version of the Bounder? Sign me up!

I like most of your changes! I don't like the light leak and I prefer the exterior paint scheme of your previous coach. I look forward to the tech vid, I think there is tons of room for RV manufactures to improve in that arena, LED, Solar, better charger and inverter, better faucets etc...I am sure you will talk about most of those items. Finally, I am really excited on your opinions about Gas vs. Diesel! I am looking to up-size, but can't bring myself to go with gas but struggle with the cost of the diesel, I will have to compromise one way or the other.

The interior looks like a home. Maybe the RV builders are thinking it is for fun use and should look like something other than home? The other thought I had was that it looks so big inside that it seems hard to believe that is the interior of an RV. I think your choices of colors and materials lends a lot to the impression.

Awesome! Such refreshing changes in your design. Cannot understand why the old style, dark "wood" bevelled throw back cabinetry. Probably budget reasons, but if you want to make serious changes, they have to go! Bounder needs to "step up" and "lighten up"!

The Freedom Theory | RV Living I'm right there with you.... the first thing I did was paint the walls and cover up the floral upholstery on the furniture and valances.. Love the changes you made to your rig and I love the changes the Wynn's have made to their new one!

Thank you! And so many people are making changes to rigs to make them more like homes. I think the "industry" is losing out on a market of young Rvers who want more modern looking rigs with home features. Oh well. They will get there eventually.

Wow! Much better than the stock choices. Your outside paint scheme would be awesome. Just one simple swoosh down the side. The clean and simple design on the inside makes it look more spacious. I'm a big fan of the linen wall coverings and simple fabrics. Cabinets are indeed, unfortunate. Something in a simple craftsman style would be great. Be nice to reduce or eliminate the fat face frames too. Some type of a simple fabric curtain on the windows would help hide the stark black metal frames.

I noticed the large window in bedroom where the head board should be, I prefer the 2 small windows on the side in slid out vs the large window at end of bed, mine now has the 2 small side windows, my last motorhome had the large window at end of bed and I always was hitting the blind.

I love your design choices and I would love a Bounder just like it, but the materials you chose are not on the original 2016 Bounder so I was wondering how I could get the ones you have if possible.

Love it ! I really like the large window in the bedroom, our Adventurer is way too dark. I also need that Newmar offers a "option" of a rear window in their bedrooms. Now to flip the floor plan. I think I would want the dinette and larger windows to be placed on the passenger (curb) side of the coach. I really do not want to see my neighbors.

Looks quite nice. Had you been allowed to exchange the cabinet doors and delete the slide/bedroom carpeting, that would have really pushed the Bounder into modern design. I look forward to hearing about the lithium house battery pack (Fleetwood should consider using a Tesla Powerwall when they become available next year) and the solar array. Can you give us a spoiler and tell us if the lithium pack has enough capacity to warrant deleting the generator?

I think all your ideas were great , including nixing the bedroom carpet. Hard floors throughout would be best. As for the cabinets, I like the detail, my preferred colour would be cherry. If I were to have any other input,I would like the manufacturer to have more appliance options. Thank you.

While it's still a gas coach and I would never buy one for that reason alone; I think the inside is very nice and you guys did a great job. That said, it probably won't appeal to the mid 50's and up middle america demographic who likes the two tone styling. I also think the cabinets look great. too much modern gets dated fast.....

I think that the ENTIRE RV industry should go spend a night at a Ritz Carlton, and take lots of photos. Your interior choices are close. I had a class A Safari, and it was at the top end of things and was still junk. I think if all of the industry wasn't in Elkhart, we would see lots of changes. They need to spend some time looking at the European RV's. Much nicer choices, clean, simple, but quality.

In a previous video you said you really preferred the Diesel pusher chassis over the gas chassis; which is what "Roy" was. What made you decide to go back to gas? I know you said you'll cover "Gas vs. Diesel" later, but I'm curious what motivated you to purchase a Gas RV (hopefully the distinction there makes sense).
