update: BOUNDLESS JUDGMENT with the new changes to ret mastery is going to be a much better pick than the double charge judgment NOW, because you're already pretty global heavy and will give you much more dmg & spenders! update 2: templar strikes (the choice node with auto crusader strike) is a really good pick for herald of the sun with the dot dmg synergies. while auto attack crusader strike + 40% faster autos still has a ton of value for the indignation build.
As a fairly highly experienced ret main (3000 in 3s arenas, 3000 in rbg - non inflated ssn) I think your video has some nice topics and you explain some of the synergies well but i'd like to add my own insight here if you would like to listen; Personally, I think you should always run 2x zealots fervor when using crusading strikes for the 40% increased passive holy power generation. Then not wasting 2 points into heart of the crusader as the damage increase is very minimal. You have overlooked the power of templar strike in your video. I believe that this is the superior talent but requires you to play with boundless judgment and holy blade so you dont have too many abiltiies with too few globals. - This ability is one of our hardest hitters without even including the dot damage, 2 part half gcd extra hit. With templar strike, Heart of the crusader should always be taken as the damage increase baseline and from critting is massive. (with our current honor gear it can do over a million damage on a player easily once all of the damage breakdowns are added up. (the dot also benefits from our dot damage increase talents and contributes to blessing of An She procs.) - Templar strikes also has higher value when you have less melee uptime. Rather than have the consistant damage and holy power generation that Crusading strikes provides (which you wont benefit from at range) Templar strike is a nice button to use once you finally are able to hit your target in melee. - Another neat trick you can do with templar strikes is play Punishment. You can actally prime a templar slash with the first templar strike hit, then use your interrupt which will templar slash without putting templar slash on cooldown, then cast templar slash manually after. This can effectively be a double templar slash hit in the same global as rebuke is not on the gcd. (niche but powerful) I also would like to point out that when playing crusade, I would personally attempt to get my stacks to atleast 7 before using Divine toll/ Final reck/ wake of ashes/ hammer of light as these are your hardest hitters and would benefit from the extra ~20% damage increase when opposed to using them with no stacks. When playing with Herald of the sun, it's beneficial to spread your dawnlights by tab targeting final verdict during Avenging Wrath. This can give you a huge boost to pad damage and healing via sun's avatar. Another build that I personally like if you are interested is to play templar ret with regular wings and radiant glory. It lacks the sustain pressure and overall burst damage of crusade but you can guarantee that every hammer of light can be fired immediately wth a 10% damage increase and 10% crit chance. This is very scary instant damage when combined with Final reckoning every minute. Unfortunately Aura of reckoning is currently bugged with radiant glory and doesnt work so you can free up a pvp talent slot here too. It also doesnt work with Divine wrath so you can free up another talent point with this buid 8-) As of the current time and patch, flash of light is just a wasted global and I would take guided prayer instead of light's celerity but it doesnt really matter. This talent node sucks ass. Also fading light is so overnerfed at this point that it's almost an output loss and I would exclusively play seal of order in all situations. As for secondary stats I think Versa is too highly rated. I would go to whatever is comfortable and then take Mastery > crit > versa > haste. Mastery is just huge raw damage, crit is making that hit even harder and also proccing the 5% damage reduction from Wrathful Descent (templar) and the Divine storm hammer of wrath burn damage from Sun Sear (Herald) And one last thing :D - With our current design and passively casting consecrate whenever we use blade of justice, Hallowed ground can be very beneficial vs spammable slow classes/ in bgs/ when playing a melee cleave. Bare in mind there will be many Paladin tree changes in 11.0.5 so a lot of this information will change. Let me know your thoughts, and if you would like to discuss any ret theorycrafting I would be happy to add you on discord if you send me a DM here.
Templar Slash is a really strong button to press, based on its initial damage output, plus the dot, plus the Blessing of An'she procs you get from applying the Templar Slash dot. If I'm in melee range of the enemy, I'm spamming the Templar Slash combo to apply that dot, and praying for An'she procs, while holding a charge of Hammer of Wrath in the holster ready for the An'she proc. I feel like that's basically the playstyle of Herald of the Sun Ret, and it feels pretty good. Ret is actually pretty fun right now, and looks to get even stronger with the rework.
Very nice I remmber when I first found your channel back in shadowlands pvp when you were sorta toxic to watch. Then saw you trying to change and be more helpful very good videos now keep up the great work
HI Flark. Thanks for the great content. A few points of contention with the Herald of the sun build. Here are the things I noticed. I would run vengeful wrath over divine purpose. Vengefull wrath + Blessing of An She gives you basically an execute that hits like a truck. Healing hands over seasoned warhorse, especially in BG Guided prayer is better than lights celerity. It will cast Eternal Flame and a a 60% flame is better than using flash of light wich saps your mana and don´t heal for very much. Boundless judgment better than improved judgment. It will proc your mastery more and you are stacking mastery. Templar strikes over crusading strikes. Templar strike/slash + dot hits really hard, basically one of your hardest hitters for the amount of globals when you add the strike + slash + dot damage. Radiant glory over divine wrath. The radiant glory bug has been fixed. Divine arbiter is better than searing light. Burst rotation with this would be something like: Judgment -> Final reck -> Hoj -> Wake of ashes -> FV -> FV -> Templar -> Templar -> FV -> Divine Toll -> FV -> Templar -> Templar -> FV (weaving in An She procs) Just some food for thought. Try it out and let me know what you think.
this is a really cool list of ideas. some of the bug fixes were extremely important for ret before the season and it looks like they're hitting them. I'm gonna dive on today or tomorrow and try this out
Two things. 1. I've tested and tested and it seems like Searing Light does almost next to nothing in terms of Damage. It feels like a waste on the meters, or am I wrong. What am I missing here? And 2, I argue this for both choice nodes: Improved Judgement/Boundless Judgement and Improved BoJ/Holy Blade. The one gives you two charges, the other more Holy Power. In my opinion, in both cases the Holy Power increase far outweighs the 2x charges, and here is why: Firstly, there is no faster recharge rate, and you use these so frequently, that you never reach two charges. Secondly, dmg spamming vs utility - time spent here. We already established that you probably won't reach the second charge, so you aren't getting extra damage her. You do get extra Holy power from the latter, meaning more Templars and heals. And, you dont have to press as many buttons to reach said Holy Power threshold, so there might be a "dead global" in there. Perfect time to press something else, like a utility spell. I don't know, but from my experience, I just get much better value out of the bigger Holy Power charges than the two charges... I just don't see the argument, and I'm dying to be proved wrong (really! ).
Hey man I need your advice, I don't know what to main ret or unholy. I don't care much for who is going to be better this season . I want to main something that will have impact on games mainly for RBGs. So what do you think ret or unholy?
