I was working in Amazon warehouse during Black Friday. That's my horror story. The end.

My best non-worker Black Friday experience: My ex wanted a 50 inch TV and we got to Walmart early enough to be 5th in line for the vouchers (out of 8). However, the truck with the TVs only delivered 4 and the regular workers had no knowledge of this. We had been in line for about 2 hours and were grouchy, but surprisingly, my ex (who had the ability to be a real Karen) decided to be a "nice" Karen that evening and asked the manager politely for an IOU coupon so that we could get the TV later when they came in at a later date. The manager was a real prince of a guy and whispered to us that we wouldn't leave the store that night w/o a TV. He told us to just wait in line and he would be back. About half an hour later (and a half hour before the official time to get the TVs) the manager takes us out of line to come with him. We follow and he takes us to the grocery dept. We wait for a couple minutes while he goes through the service door and comes out with a 60 inch TV!! He told us that because of the mix-up and because of our politeness, he decided to get us the 60in (not even on sale) at the 50in sale price. I don't think we needed one that big, but my ex was pleased as punch about it. We thanked him a million times. Also, something funny: The couple in line after us in line sent their son to sneak after us when we left, because the dad could tell something was up. When he learned what had happened, he demanded the same deal. However, the manager told him that was the last 60in (it wasn't. LoL) and that he would get an IOU for the 50in. Also, the couple were already pissed because they had been hoping to be in line early enough to get 4 of the TVs. They could only get 1 IOU, though. LMAO

What people do for a new TV is insane...

The only time I worked retail was in the late '90s when I was a teenager, which was before Black Friday became insane. But in the early '00s I had my hand re-broken by a fat older lady trying to steal a portable DVD player I was going to buy. My hand was in a cast from an injury a week or so before hand. The crazy lady decided to ram her cart directly into my injured hand and then proceeds to try and grab the player out of my cart when I pull back from the intense pain of having my healing hand re-broken. Out of reflex I just kick her right in the left which sends her to ground while I'm having to pull the flexible cast off because my newly re-broken hand is quickly swelling. Long story short I went to the hospital, one of my aunts who was with my mother and I at the story pay for the player, and crazy lady ends up getting a disorderly conduct charge when the store looks at the security footage and they see her attack me and try to steal the player.

Worked at Victoria’s Secret on Black Friday (not by choice). I had to climb onto the display island for my own safety. It was bedlam. I almost got trampled, as did a few other employees. We ran out of lingerie sets and perfumes really fast, and customers were screaming and cussing at us for running out of what they wanted.

The sad part is, all these Black Friday sales still persist to the next day. And a lot of what ever is limited of something isn’t actually limited. There is more in the back, but either being held for employees or spread out over the day to make it look like it’s limited. Save yourself the insanity and just buy the same thing via cyber sales right after.

I've worked shifts alone because other employees hadn't shown up but I have never and will never work an additional shift because the next person hasn't shown up. Staffing a location is a manager's job, if the manager can't do that properly it's the manager's responsibility to work any unstaffed shifts. I'm not saying I've never stayed past the end of a shift because of an emergency but when I do I always communicate that I'm not covering the whole shift and that I will be leaving by a certain time.

Im a maintenance worker but we did something pretty messed up. It was the year a new gaming system came out and Target wanted to open early meaning we had to be in early. My boss took a vacant store, put used plumbing fixtures and items from vacated spots up to sell. Someone asked to have a pipe cut four ways (gave sections to family). Later got more people to buy them. Also big sales on chains and cinderblocks. Kept bringing up items and selling them. Lots of people walked out of the Target with bloody noses. A few employees bought our supplies as well. (Target later complained to us my boss said "If you can open at 4am why cant I?"

We don't have black Fridays here...so everytime i hear black Friday i have in my head image from South park episode about it :D literal bloodbath. is it really like that?

I am so happy I don't have to deal with black friday because A) I don't go to the stores that day and B) I don't want to go + I usually have the things I need when black fridays happen. ^^

I’ve seen a bunch of ladies including my aunt go nuts over towels in Walmart. They went as far as to grabbing out of another ladies cart.

If I ever had worked retail especially on Black Friday my dream would be a mass I quit effective immediately before the doors open. Especially if the employees had a back exit and parking area. Then watch the riots at my former employer.

The climax of story 12 had me in stitches.

a lot of black friday sales are a scam in my country, they either raise the price two months before and then lower it on black friday to the price it was two months ago and call it a deal, or they put the price of the product when it was brand new on the market on the tag and slap a (number)%OFF! sticker on it possibly making the product way more expensive then what it was just a week earlier.

I've only ever worked one Black Friday and that was at a Walgreens in a small town and we had nothing interesting. Everybody was too busy raiding the big stores for their items. There was an incident that happened in my city a few years later that made me grateful I didn't work retail at the time and I was safely home. Black Friday, two guys get in a scuffle, one pulls out a gun and tries to shoot the other guy, but ends up shooting innocent passerby/s several feet away. That was a mess.

Not black friday but Mother’s Day. All the cards were gone. It wasn’t so bad but I had people coming in of all sorts forgotten gif mom or wife. This guy who reeked of cigarette smoke came in and got a card and flowers with his teenage sons. Not really horror but more like after my shift ( ends at noon ) I went to get MY mom a card. Everything. Gone. I found a funny card thst fit cuz I WAS lazy and this was the consequence. It said ‘this card is belated’ and I added almost. ‘Because I be lazy. ‘ gif hee a dark chocolate bar and a nice shirt in hee favorite color thst I found in the goodwill across the street.

Thankfully, the only crazy Black Friday experience I've had was when some asshole at Walmart almost ran me over with their cart when I was a kid. My mom still won't do BF shopping to this day, at least during the peak times.

In the UK, the first year we did BF some years ago it was the single largest trading day in my employers history (fortunately I was a weekender), so of course it was going to happen again the following year, not only that but we were going to have offers all week and stay open an extra 2 hours. So my horror story is probably the opposite of most others……we were dead, that’s it, no customers after our usual closing time. It was so dead the manager decided to close a bit early…..but we got stuck because the alarm wouldn’t set so we didn’t end up leaving till the time we were originally going to close anyway.

How am I a 32 year old born and raised in the USA that has never hesrd if Black Friday sale vouchers and sales for things with stock as limited as 4-8 items? I mean I avoid Black Friday sales because I would rather pay full price than wait in line for hours or deal with stores packed full of people but even so, I'd have thought that if vouchers were a thing, I'd have heard about it through ads or tv shows or something, at least. Feels weird. Like a Mandela effect or whatever the opposite of deja vu is.

Covid actually helped black friday. While it's probably the same for other stores. Wal mart now dose deals for days. Where a smaller amount of items is put out through out the month of november. Black friday is one of the days. Usually with more and expensive items. But they are normal days for the most part.

Fourth! Also - this makes me happy that I never go to shops on Black Friday.

Worked at Walmart. My Last year at black Friday I was put on toys. So I chose to stand by a stack of Children's books. Easy right? Well it was right across from Legos. 500 peice assortment tub, $20. So we're waiting, I'm talking to the nice manager in the store, and people are grouping around the Legos. A massive swarm. Only a handful are there for these Disney books I'm by everyone else wants their overpriced Plastic bricks. Immediately after the event starts, there's a loud commotion, screaming shuffling and cops running over. A few minutes later their Taki g two put one with a broken nose, the other saying he deserved it. Turns out broken nose had wrapped his belt around 4 of these tubs without knowing as soon as the event starts he lifts his belt straight up hitting deserved's wife in the face. Well he didn't take this too well and procedes to beat the hell out of the guy, all because of plastic bricks...
