We explain how Ledge Hill Landscaping LLC. Installs retaining walls, showing the step by step process on what we do to ensure that the wall is there for years to come. This is part of a property make-over series, featuring this Pisa 2 tapered retaining wall block (A Unilock product) in the color 'River'.
[What is referred to as a a 1 inch setting bed of #4's (that the block sits on) in the video is a verbal error; it is supposed to be a 1 inch setting bed of #9's]

It depends what type of sewer pipe you would be building on top of (wall thickness of the pipe). Generally I would not advise building a pipe with a depth that is less than 6-8 inches below the natural grade; however, you might just be able to get away with it, considering it only has 3 layers, it would just depend on the wall thickness/ type of pipe

@@Ledgehill 3 inches diameter pvc pipe and it was buried depth about 30 inches under the ground and i digging 5 inches depth for paver and i will put the paver base about 2 inches thick and i will put the paver on the top of paver base. my paver is 4 in high and 12 inch length 7 inch width and has 24 lbs weight . i will install with 3 layers and i will put the gravel crash stone for backfill . Jst only for 3 layer paver stone ( 1 ft hight ) .shluld i need to put the geotextile fabric under the paver base .Thank you so much for your reply and i appreciate your times for replying and advise to me .Thanks sir

Considering that the pipe is 30 inches below the ground, you should be all good to lay pavers/block on top of it. Since you are using block on a smaller application, you don't need to put the geotextile fabric under/behind the block (unless you have it on hand and want to over-engineer it). Keep up the work!

Looks good I'd just recommend going with 3/4 clear stone as the base material. I also like using the Unilock universal base. Really quick, easy and adds strength.

I've been doing retaining walls and hardscape installation for over 30 years good job guys some people say they even notice the joints crossing over each other that's just the way it is as long as you got over 2 in I'm not touching lines on radiuses one thing I didn't notice you should put a drain I know it's not an engineered wall but it helps just make sure the place is always a compact base and it's got green rock behind the wall for a wall like that I would at least put a foot away from the wall and keep it down about eight inches and just fill it with dirt but I didn't know it's one thing maybe I didn't see it maybe I'm wrong did you guys call Julie for for locates especially using a heavy equipment like that never assume that power gas runs where you think it runs or water be very careful continue become responsible and that is costly you lose the whole profit on the whole job and maybe more but other than that good job guys keep up the good work you're going places bless you be careful out there

Thanks for the kind words! After reviewing the video, I did notice that we left out many different things to point out throughout the video. We did have a drain running about half way around the wall (Where the #57 material is). We buried our drainage about 15-18 inches below the compacted base. Hopefully we can make a more in depth video in the future. Thanks!

Just a question. Do you not glue the blocks?
@Ledgehill
@Ledgehill 11 месяцев назад
We only glue the coping on top of the wall as recommended by the manufacturer

looks nice, but I see a small "hump" in the wall - not perfectly level, notice that in some other areas too, I am sure it is tough to get perfect level and a little off on the first row and it shows up on subsequent courses.. Wall looks short on the front side but maybe that is the design.
@Ledgehill
@Ledgehill Год назад
It does appear that there is a slight 'hump' in the wall; however, we do ensure that every block is sitting level before laying the next block as well as cross leveling along the whole wall to ensure that the wall will be structurally sound for decades to come. Oftentimes the camera angle and grade of the yard can make the wall look like it is not correctly installed. I appreciate your attention to detail though! Thanks!
@groovy1937
@groovy1937 Год назад
@@Ledgehill It definitely looks that it is all installed correctly. The color variation in the stone gives the illusion of waviness, that and each row is set back a bit on the next row (as it should since that is how the back lip of the block is) - Likely tricks of the eye going on here. But really, a very well done job - looks very good!

looks good, but i noticed some of the seams aren't staggered.
@Ledgehill
@Ledgehill 2 года назад
That's correct you would want to off set each layer of block by at least 1/3 of a block, especially with the standard size block.
@wkkmaiwkk

What kind of material of the black sheet and base ?
@Ledgehill
@Ledgehill 2 года назад
It is generally best to use a woven geotextile fabric for retaining walls (you can find them at most landscape supply stores). The base is #411 crushed limestone (which is #57 limestone with fines). The setting bed is #9 limestone (for the inch of setting bed between the base and the block).
