Retekess Portable Cassette Recorder - Unboxing & Review! 

A nice little piece of equipment.its nice to see new versions of these old devices still coming out.

It's cool that portable radio with cassettes are still being made. A bit noisy on the voice recording, but expectations shouldn't be too high. It would be nice if Retekess made a stereo version.

like the auto reverse capability....its really good that these kind of things are being made,giving people a choice of hearing tapes in a very portable way....my whole life has been in mono and black and white too,so mono suits my ear to bits..nice review

I agree with the others. I love the idea of the auto reverse cassette deck with the built in tuner but it would be amazing if it was stereo through the headphones. I really hope they listen to us all for their next product bc the quality of their stuff seems pretty good.

Very nice. I think it's great these things are still being made for people who still play cassettes to listen to on the move. I don't own any cassettes anymore, but I appreciate there are many people who still do love playing them. I grew up listening to these portable cassette players and I can still remember the very first one I had back in the 80's. It was a red and silver one, the red was on the cassette door which I thought was very cool at the time, I think it was a Sony. It started playing up after a few years though, I probably wore it out in the end. So after that I had another one that had a radio on it and the auto reverse feature which was cool. I was always baffled how the auto reverse feature in these actually worked. It had the usual 2 capstan and pinch rollers system but with a stationary reader head instead of the rotating one you normally find in much bigger auto reverse systems. I remember the head itself looked like it had 2 reader parts on it, so that could have something to do with the way it worked. Great review.

Nice to see something new besides these cheap Tanashin mechanisms. Adequate as you said. Now it would be awesome if they used these new autoreverse mechanisms in higher end units. BTW, I love your channel spirit, full of positive energy! Keep on the good work!

Another great video! The only thing I don't like about this unit is that it's MONO... yes today in age they very well could (and should) make it in stereo for the same price. I have a collection of vintage stereo portables I keep in working order.

Eh. it works. All these devices that aren't a name brand (sony, panasonic etc.) have pretty much sustained the same level of quality (which is sub par at best in my opinion) for at least the last 15 years or so. It runs a little fast. I would much rather have a stereo head than auto reverse. I think their priorities are a bit backwards.

Very Interesting product. Not the best quality, but at least they are paying attention to what people want. Now for other companies to follow.

I love the review but it is something I wouldnt really buy for myself. But other then that, I say the video was great and very well informative. Keep up the great work.

Has auto reverse, but it's MONO!! First time I've seen that in a walkman type player. IMO woul be much better to have stereo headphone playback and do away with the auto-reverse.

Is there a cassette size for this? I got this for my nephew but the cassette won’t fit?!

This recorder isn't in stereo, Hopefully Retekess Will make Stereo Recording walkman because I was expecting that the Recorder could also Records the FM in stereo, and less Mechanically noisy during recording.

Can you recommend a walkman size unit like this, that converts directly to mp3 via usb stick or sd card,? without needing a pc. I know there are numerous ways accomplish accomplish this transfer but I prefer using a self-contained miniature unit like this. Thank you so much I appreciate your advice. I’d like to just buy a unit that works that’s budget friendly

@Record-ology Can you please tell me if this recorder/cassette player is available to play in stereo audio when headphones are connected? I am looking for a walkman that will play my cassettes in stereo mode. Without looking up reviews, I jumped the gun 6 months ago, and bought eh Byron Statics Portable cassette player. Let me say, it deserves a 2 out of 5 stars. It plays in mono, the speaker on the cassette player sounds teeny, aweful, the player makes a grinding sound as it rewinds cassettes, and my god, the speed gets slower every time I'm listening to cassettes for a long period of time. And the last con, it just doesn't sound that good. The battery life is horrible. Would you recommend this cassette player? Gonna hop on amazon, and buy this cassette player. Just asking if this cassette player is worth it before I make a purchase. And I hear the jensen cassette walkmans are horrible. I looked for wsny walkmans on amazon, but they're god awful expensive. Their cassette walkmans. Please let me know if this cassette player can play in stereo mode when listening to tapes? And does the speed of the cassette player stay consistent, and just stays in its normal speed as I listen to tapes from start to finish? Once I get this player, the Byron statics cassette player? It's going in the trash. At least it was only $15, and it wasn't $40 on amazon. Thank you sommuch buddy! Feedback's much appreciated!

I have seen people sneak these cheap things into rock concerts back in the nineties. Those things must have sounded horrible. In college in the eighties I used a Walkman Pro to record lectures. I did take it to a few concerts but with powered external microphones.

Does the mono vs stereo matter if I use headphones?

I bought this and the buttons wouldnt stay engaged so i returned it. Mustve just been my unit was faulty. :/

Mono head, some units are faulty ( read comments)... So it's a big no.

If it's not stereo either playing or recording, that's a deal breaker. The one redeeming feature-auto reverse--is not enough to save it. Sorry.

The Retekess looks solidly built. Unfortunately the mono sound is a huge turn off. I've looking at this model for a while. Looks like I won't be buying it. Thanks for the review.
