While these radios work just fine the way they come stock with the stock antenna its sometimes desirable to swap out the antenna for whatever reason. I personally think the reason the antennas on the RA85's are glued on is because the original intended buy is businesses. Which makes perfect sense why you would not want a removal antenna for employees to mess with or lose etc. But for the individual user or hobbyist this isn't ideal. Some radios the antennas are glued on some aren't. This process takes a little time and care not to melt the radio. But it works. I replaced it with a nagoya gmrs antenna which I will linked above. Good luck and be patient. It took me several minutes to do it without damaging the radio. Thanks for watching and God Bless.

Thank you for the video! I wonder if the glue could be softened by using some sort of a solvent instead of high temperature. Have you tried to dissolve the glue residue you recovered in anything to see what might work? One thing that comes to mind is cigarette lighter fluid. It dissolves a lot of crap. I guess it would depend on the type of glue they use. I would try this myself, but I don't want to accidentally damage the radio. The stock antenna is actually not bad. But it's a shame that Retevis decided to compromise this nice little radio in such an unwise way.

Those are some really good points there. No I didn't consider those things. I think it would be difficult to get it down inside there. I tried to keep the heat as low as I could trying not to melt or otherwise damage the radio. It seems to work but. As you can see it definitely took a while. Thanks for the comment and for watching.

There's no really good explanation except for if someone wants to. I think it does improve the performance slightly. To be honest it's just for the hobbyists if they're wanting to mess around and mod their radios. But you certainly don't need to that's for sure. I totally understand where you're coming from. I made this video because I wanted to do it and I wanted to share if others wanted to and how not to damage their radio while doing it
