Can we use common sense to rethink your golf swing?
This is the part 2 of a five-part series where I review my book "The Single Plane Golf Swing, Play Better Golf the Moe Norman Way" and use common sense to uncover specific details of natural body movements of Moe Norman's swing to help you rethink your golf swing and, in the process, discover the easiest way to play golf.
In this video I explore how the golf swing is lead sided uncover one of Moe's secrets, the pivot point, and how this discovery could rethink your swing to help you become more consistent.

I started using the single swing with my 1 length clubs and oh maaaan!! I was terrible my lowest score was a 118!! Now after 4 months I got down to a respectful 80 this was the greatest lesson I have ever had thanks

Can't believe this works!!! In the past months my driver launches straight and further. I used to drive 220~250 yds, but know I get 270 to 300. Being 40 years old high handicap... I am starting to enjoy the field more. My friends made fun of my stance at address but now they are amazed. Specially after Bryson's address is the same... This absolutely worked for me. Moved to Mid handicap recently with Driver and long Irons being as consistent 1 plane swing.

Hey Todd, 3 handicapper here. Taught the conventional swing by my grandfather, who is now in the Nebraska PGA golf hall of fame as a teacher. I believe I have gotten as far as I can with a conventional swing. I’m actually a very inconsistent ball striker with a really good short game. I am making the switch to single plane. Why not? 70% of my rounds are spent guessing with my long game. I hit about 50% of my fairways, and between 40-50% of my greens. I started messing around with this swing yesterday and really started grooving it. Excitement in my long game has returned. The only thing I’m really struggling with is wedge play. Anyways, it’s still super early in my transition, but I wanted to thank you for your info and training. Cannot wait to swing like Moe!

I stepped away from golf for many, many years. The primary reason being back issues. I came across one of your instructional videos a couple years ago and thought, why not. Now I have several of your DVD's and training devices. This swing just makes so much sense to me, and every time I watch one of your videos, I have what amounts to an epiphany. After a couple years of practicing...do I have it down perfectly? No, (heck, this old dog is 62, and it takes a while to learn new tricks) but there are times now when when I hit the ball so purely that I just can't believe it. It's a feeling I never had hitting a golf ball before. The way you break down the single plane swing from start to finish is really just well done. So, thank you, I believe if I keep at it, I'll be able to show the thirty somethings I work with how to really strike a golf ball.

I"m 65 and still working hard in my company hanging doors and hardware so the less I have to twist, turn, bend ect. the better. This is what I have been looking for. I am learning the single plane swing through your videos and book. I am an orthopedic surgeon. In an anatomical terms the left arm is fully pronates at address, as is the right arm. You call the front arm as being in neutral position which is actually the mid position between supination and pronation. I find that being able to place both arms and legs in a fixed position very helpful. I have just begun to learn the swing but am limit by the restrictions of the Covid 19 virus.

This was the first thing I learned from watching vids on Moe 10 years ago. I just lacked the other Golden Dominos that you share in your vids. On my set up the bit of the club always points to the last rib on the lead side. Also the lead shoulder is ahead of the ball at set up , only exception is the driver. The tilt away with the spine puts one in this position after you learn ball and feet positions which allow the lead shoulder to be place correctly at address. Wish I had known all the other Dominoes you are currently showing, the journey would have been much quicker. Only way to hit a golf ball consistently, period!!!!

OMG ! this is So brilliant, you reversed engineered Moe's Swing. which Moe Reversed Engineered the impact and and Moe worked it backwards. "lets make impact position, then go backwards to downswing, and then EROnomically found the best at each part of the Swing backwards and then make the SET UP to the ball basically as efficient as possible !" no extra movements , no glamour, just pureness of what the most easy motion should be... Todd, that deconstruction of Moe's Swing and your years of studying it, and you give it away kinda free on RU-vid makes you so humble and honorable ! love that your nick name is Little Moe.. wish i can take a lesson from you group ! i live in Indiana when is you next group session or camp?

Thanks Todd for this terrific overview. Your use of the stick was really helpful regarding the left arm position at set up and in thinking of the swing as centering toward the left or front side. Things fell into place while recently hitting some nine irons and I began to feel like I could not hit a bad shot. That is a feeling (or a least a little taste) of greatness.

Hi Todd, Bought your book. However this video with the boomstick has made a huge difference in the address. It felt very awkward with the arms straight, but I had the club pointing at my belly button. By using the boom, I realised the club must visually pass under the forearm, which naturally tilts the hips and the club end is facing the lift hip. Therefore you are in the correct striking position from the start. The club being moved back 6 - 8 inches, enables the pick up to be shorter and smoother... and removes that thought! genius!!!

Todd, Played today, had a few drives push right on me. However I was so much straighter with my irons. Rifled a 4 iron 243yrds (Down Hill) straight at the pin, with a strong wind (L-R), and another 4 Iron 185 yrds up hill, 6 feet from the pin. Usually spraying left and right.... Will keep at it!! Applying the same logic: Why would you not want to start exactly with the impact position? Is there a significant downside to that? Todd your videos are getting better and better- you really need to talk about ball flights fade and draws. Almost every shot will fall of in one of those two directions. Any club from 8 iron and up will either. fade or draw slightly physics. You have a better chance to hit lottery 3 times in the same week then have a zerod out clubface with a zerod out club-path at impact resulting in dead straight shots.
@ToddGravesGolf
@ToddGravesGolf 4 года назад
Tom, while it is easy to draw and fade the golf ball with Moe's Single Plane Swing, I simply don't find it necessary for a majority of all shots to play great golf. Following your argument that hitting it straight 3 times in a row and winning the lottery - the same deviation would hold true with hitting three of the same fades or three of the same draws consistently. For example if you aim straight and on average you had a 10 yard deviation (5 yard draw or 5 yard fade) you would end up either, o target, 5 yards right of the target or 5 yards left of the target. If you decided that you needed to have a 5 yard draw swing pattern you would be required to aim 5 yards right of the target, your deviation would be either at the target (perfect) 5 yards right of the target or 10 yards right of the target. Either trained swing pattern is subject to the variability you describe however, when you build a swing pattern designed to decrease sidespin and increase the ability to hit it straight, you never have to aim away from the target which in my opinion is the main problem with curving the ball in the first place.
@TomSmith-yt8ce
@TomSmith-yt8ce 4 года назад
Todd Graves Todd that was exactly what my thought was just aim straight at target sure it will probably fade or draw slightly but deviation will be less overall then aiming right or left to play draw or fade - Iv have been overthinking it - playing 19 yrs on my 20th yr 7.5 cap never lower then 6 - Im 53 yrs old now so I still hold out hope my best golf lies ahead of me. the kiss method - thanks for reply appreciated.

Excellent Todd...was thinking that the swing is also similar to swinging an axe which I’ve had to do...my lead foot was pointed out slightly and when I swung the axe I stabilized against the lead knee/leg coming down. No one would ever swing an axe and straighten there lead leg! Todd, you can’t talk about the sps enough because of the wrong conventional garbage that has been taught because this allows people to unlearn and relearn the only way to swing a golf club efficiently! My lie angles are flatter than standard but not a fan of Single Length clubs because I don't believe they offer any significant advantage when you take into consideration that you will really only have a handful of single-length clubs in addition to the longer woods, hybrids and putter. All things considered, I think the wedges still need to. be heavy headed and short for control and feel. Again I don't see a significant advantage of single length irons.

First thank you for these videos, they are fantastic. I've ordered your book and hoping to receive it today. Can I ask you to help clarify the arm positions at address (specifically the bicep positions)? I "think" you are stating that the lead arm bicep position should be "perpendicular" to the position you would have if you were doing bicep curls with dumbells - I hope that makes sense. I would like to understand what at address should the bicep position be on the trail arm? It "looks like" in this video (at around the 15 min mark) you trail arm bicep position starts off in a curl position and then slowly rotates as you secure the grip, and is then in between a bicep curl position and a perpendicular position. Looking forward to getting back onto a range to try and put these into practise.

Always start with the fundamentals - address / grip / alignment / ball position etc. Then if you are still push fading, check your backswing position. Question, when in the address position moving into position two, what makes the first move: 1 the torso, arms and shoulders all together at the same time. Or 2. Just a turn (initiation) of the shoulders? And it seems that Moe really locked that lead arm prior to swinging ( it looks like he flexes the tricept) why did he do that?

Two things. I noticed that Moe never seemed to use a golf glove. Is there a reason he chose not to, or did they not use golf gloves in those days? I don't like wearing a glove either and only use one in very cold weather or very humid weather. Second, not everyone is built the same when it comes to address position of straight legs and arms.
