Thanks for sharing Steve, beautiful companion you have there! I’m 64, diagnosed with RP in my twenties so I’ve been dealing with the decline in my vision for some time . I’m legally blind as you are, I’ve reached the point where I can’t read print due to what seems like every other letter is missing, like someone just erased letters diagonally across the page. What really frustrates me is not being able to see the small increments on a tape measure. No guide dog, but my wife , who is so very patient and supportive has mentioned that maybe I should consider getting one in the near future. Goo luck to you !
Hello from the United States. My brother and I both have retinitis pigmentosa since birth, but we were diagnosed in her early 20s. Thank you for sharing your story. I can relate to a lot of what you said.
Thanks for watching. We all have such similar stories. Sometimes it just helps to hear others talk about their own experiences. Hope you got something out of the video. Have a great day from Australia!
Thank you so much for sharing I haven't noticed pigmentosa I am 55 and legally blind everything that you said I agree and I am at that point in my life having RP is very difficult no one understands except for the person who suffers I have had my share of pity party's over the years I am grateful for my two daughters they helped me out a lot. Im glad to have found your
Living through RP is definitely a struggle. But sharing somehow seems to help. Thanks for the great feedback. I'm glad you got something out of the video. Hope you're having a great day!
I've got RP and been registered blind since I was 7, my vision has never been good but now I'm almost 40 it's got worse recently which has hit me hard. Your story has some similar aspects to me and helps hearing people talk about it
Hi Matt, I can definitely relate to what you are going through. It is a struggle. But as you adjust things do get easier. If you put the work into learning new skills they really do pay off. York my Guide Dog gives me amazing freedom. And even when I learnt to use a cane properly The world began to open up again. And just people knowing what you are going through because they see you using a cane or Guide Dog that helps as well. Wishing you all the best. Thanks for watching.
Mike Young thanks for watching. I think it does help for us to share our stories. Otherwise you can feel very alone. It’s amazing how many of us all have the same story. Anyway thanks for watching. Have a great day!
Amin Afzal retinitis pigmentosa is definitely a difficult thing to deal with. But P support and hearing the stories of other people is something that has helped me. And hopefully my story in someway will have helped you. I hope it has. And don’t be afraid to talk to others about what you are going through. All the best with it. Cheers!
McIntyre here. Brilliant mate. End stage RP me too. Registerd Blind. Long story and all that. I am trying to get insight into memory and vision. Like your example of the glass on the table but when I put something down and move my head unless I'm reminded in some way I forget about it. Kind of what the eye doesn't see doesn't exist in the memory. I am forever trying to find things and it frustrates the hell out of me. Best Wishes. Superb vid. How did you adapt to having a guide dog By the way? Wife's pushing me to go for one.
Synapptic User thanks for watching. I’m really glad you liked the video. Yes we have a lot in common. As far as the guide dog goes. He has been amazing. He’s given me independence again. I have confidence to get out and about and do things on my own. Everybody is different but I would highly recommend it. All the best. Cheers!
In my 20s I had cataract surgery. The Lenses they implanted were corrected. I still wore glasses for some things like driving and computer work. But as my retina’s deteriorated. They didn’t make much difference. So I just stopped wearing them. Obviously I don’t drive any more anyway. So I suppose it was just a natural progression. When my glasses stopped working for me. I stopped wearing them. Hope that helps. Cheers!
@@stevefoxyorktheguidedog4350 Hi Steve! Greetings from the Phillipines! I hope and pray to be as independent and confident as you do. I was diagnosed with RP at the age of 37 & had to quit from my job as a teacher. I truly miss my independence & the career oriented woman I used to be! I came across your video and got inspired after watching it!
Hi Steve, great channel I just subscribed. I also have retinitis pigmentosa and I have a channel if you would like to check it out. Thanks for sharing, Shane
