All my Filipino friends say they will live like a "king" when they retire in the Philippines. Their words not mine. The cost of living is way cheaper and they know how to take advantage of it. We are building a community in the Philippines for the US and Europe people to retire in. Come join us.

I am a Filipina that lived and worked in the U.S. For 26 years and decided to come back here in the Philippines after retiring so I can just sit back and enjoy my senior years. Yes, cost of living here is way cheaper than in the U.S. I live in the summer capital of the Philippines where it is cool all year round....Best place to retire, just be selective of who you make friends with...
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Hi Vee I assume you're in Baguio? Were looking at Tagaytay and Clark economics zone (much hotter). What profession where you in in the US? What changed the most when you return to the Philippines?
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Baguio is very nice been up there when the clouds are rolling in and it's quite chilly in the morning. We are still targeting Tagaytay area and also keeping an eye on the Clark economics zone but that's a lot hotter. Our projects quite large so it takes time to get everybody in place to make it happen. But I can tell you more things in the United States are just gonna make it expensive and tough on seniors. We may want to talk to you when we get around to setting up the restaurant sound like you had a lot of experience in the dining facility area at least on the military side. Not going to get into a casino though! Feel free to email me you can always go to our main website at www.TheIslandGneration.com and click on the contact goes directly to me

Vacations or quite different from living in any country. The Philippines has some beautiful places. Some of the most beautiful in the world, but to deny the suffering of the people shows stupidity.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Thomas Martin: You're correct vacations you really probably get to see the good side of everything. It's fast-paced and you're taken in a lot of predesigned adventures. Living in country is altogether different. Again what I'm trying to do with the facility I'm making is to kinda blend that together. Inside the facility the restaurant would obviously crank out some good old Southern cooking as well as Tex-Mex etc. the facility would be very secure and provide a safe haven for those people who call it home. But also within that community I want to foster a sub group that wants to help the locals. By not giving them money but to identify those people that could use a caribou to day or 0r medical clinic when not busy could lend a hand. We want to be good neighbors beyond what anyone is used to. In addition our hiring practices would be to definitely reach out to those who really need a job and help prevent even if it's small amount to provide work. Will easily have 30 to 40 employees but leave it open to those that do not have degrees but have desires and can show interest in hidden talent will take it from there. I have a great experience with this because I run a computer company for many years and hired want to be programmers that had no training and no college. Yet those same people under my employment went on to program applications that have been used by worldwide governments and multinationals. If only they knew who program their application. So I can't solve all the Philippines problems but I feel pretty good if I can help 30 to 40 and give them a permanent job they can learn at.

you cannot own property or a business as a foreigner, either you have a filipno wife or a filipino partner don't invest more then you can afford to lose cause chances of losing are very great I know been living here for 24 years and seen so many lose all here.

I suggest Iloilo City in Visayas. Its the most Livable City in Phil. Not too crowded and good quality hospitals.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
I agree with you there are many nice places in the Philippines. We are looking for those that give us the best protection from storms as well as many amenities or our newly retired couples and singles. We are looking at two key locations that we feel provide us the best of these combinations.

It may be hard to believe Davao is a safe city. There are several very good hospitals and three fantastic malls, but there is not much else in Davao. I have lived here now for ten years, but if I had it to do over would select another place. There are many beautiful places in the Philippines to live.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Thomas Martin: So if you had to pick other places to live in the Philippines where would you pick ? We have been really looking at Tagaytay to builder facilities only because of the cooler climate but it's also away from the beaches that's a good and bad thing depending on storm level . So what your thoughts ?
@mastermindedmind

AMERICAN VIPER Right on! Iloilo City is the best place to live. The place is just clean and beautiful. And yes, it's not crowded like Metro Manila.. cost of living is cheap. People are friendly too. They have really nice hospitals, restaurants, hotels, malls, and a quiet and peaceful subdivisions to live in.😁

Sounds interesting. Once your facility is built and running, I will be glad to take a look. Right now, it seems more of a concept, abeit a good one.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
I want to show the whole series from concept to reality. In the background I'm already meeting with investors and have feet on the ground in the Philippines hunting for land. I'm getting a lot of emails from investors and future retirees so moving along nicely. But you right the idea is very solid. My background is owning and building 24/7 facilities and computer programming. So I am pretty used to starting with a blank slate and turning it into something magical.

It is just one way of saying a person who does not know where he came from does not know where he is going. Most are successful in life but there are also those that lost out. When living in the Philippines never show off that you are living a kings life. Life in the Philippines as a Filipino expat must be shrouded in humility and respect to live a normal life.

Like you said it's good to live like a king but don't flaunt it. Always be mindful that most of the people that you meet on the street will have less than you do. You will also find some people on the street that may be quite rich and they will humiliate you in a second.

Where I am in Angeles City, Pampanga is full of expats. It's not crowded like Manila. It's close to Clark airport which you need to be shuttling to the nearby Asian countries including Australia and New Zealand. Avoid the Manila traffic. We have 6 huge malls in Pampanga. It's a city awash in foreign cash. Lots of services. Great restaurants. I don't miss a thing from my old existence except maybe some relatives and friends back in the USA, but that is what planes are for. :D

+ Thankful that our Philippines are people of hopeful God fearing Christians friendly and welcoming attitudes ,(exept some parts other than we believe group ) And Old and young anywhere in the Island talks English this adds comfortability and easy to stay . Though really the cost of living is not really cheaper but for Foreigners with money exchange value are benefitted. Tourism is also one good thing for us, respectful of all good things that benefits both side .. God is good Above all to look up , pur Creator and Blessor ... Thankful for this very Truth of God.

It simply is not true that anywhere on the islands everyone speaks English. There are not that many that speak conversational English. Some Filipinos cannot understand the dialect of other Filipinos. People like you disappointed me when I moved here because I believe your lies that everyone speaks English. If you are seriously considering moving to the Philippines learn one of the major dialects and you will be much happier.

I am a retired business owner and minister and Christianity in the Philippines is not always the same as in the the States. I was working in ministry when I first came and was shocked at men having two or three families and active in the church. I was shocked that adultery was not frowned upon as it was in the same denomination back home. I had to make some big adjustments. God fearing is not the same around the world culture and traditions play an important part in religion.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Thomas Martin: found your introduction to Philippines Christianity quite amusing and interesting life story . I think it's fair to say the Philippines might get to Christianity a little bit bent towards King Solomon . Not much punishment there. Even the Philippine president pretty much openly said he's got a girlfriend or two .

I am 72 years old my wife is 65 years old and your videos are Inspiration for us to continue an adventurous lifestyle. We've traveled to 35 countries and by seeing how you take on the challenges has given us the courage to do things that we have not felt comfortable doing. The bottom line we are getting out of the comfort zone. What advice would you give us? You're doing it and thank you for what you're doing it is appreciated all.Jerry & Lori
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Jerry Brown - As you are aware traveling to 35 countries, as you and your wife have done, is quite exciting, but sometimes you miss home. That is sort of the concept behind Island Generation, bring an American community into the Philippines. Especially American management with plenty of senior-friendly high-tech components. We are only about a week away from launching our venture capital fundraising. In the meantime, we have been talking with developers in the Philippines...wow going well Were getting there and certainly welcome your feedback you can always communicate directly with me at Mark@TheIslandGeneration.com to get out developer video that is not listed on RU-vid let

Giving you some tip...for those who prefer cold weather go the north like Baguio city, up to mountain province. So you don't have to set up air-conditioning. During summer time the temperature will rise at the maximum of 25 to 26 degrees c. Only at the midst of the day. But when the sun goes down it also lower the temperature down to19, 18,17,16 degrees depends on which location , mountainous area or in the city
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
I don't disagree that Baguio is very nice. But having been there and also speaking with others that live there it's extremely crowded. This makes it difficult to build the facility like what we're looking at what the size needed. That's why we're looking at Tagaytay as a possible solution. Half the height of Baguio but more room at least at the present. Intention to build more than one facility or to have multiple facilities with different Philippine business partners.

Hi Romeo Our main plan is to stay in Luzon and even then targeting a more upscale area with numerous amenities possible trying to stay a little bit towards the countryside. Our main concern is trying to keep the rent in a very reasonable amount so that long-term retirees can always be comfortable with our facilities. Then provide our own vehicles and drivers to take them where they'd like to go.

Hope you could also help the community outside where your retirement community belong either directly or indirectly. Once you've done it, you will feel the undying respect and gratitude from us and will etched in the minds of generations to come for what you have done. We still have the " bayanihan spirit" a helping hand that don't need a monetary reward to reciprocate your help extended in the community. Welcome and thank you for choosing my beloved country to retire..mabuhay
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
I always considered right from the beginning that our retirees would be a great source of helping the Philippine community. Not only by their vast knowledge and ability to teach but to help financially. My thought has been once we establish our facility we set up a way to help local small farmers directly or people we see that are in need. Instead of giving to a charity where some of that money may be misappropriated. I feel it's better to give the farmer the tools he needs to be a farmer than to just give him the money for that day. Also we may want special vegetables or spices raised for our restaurant I would like to see the contracted out to a local farm. I'm sure as we are there the collective force of many retirees will institute other programs that help the Philippine people

Retirement in the Philippines is awesome! At least that's what my mom said! Your retirement dollars goes a loooooonnnnnngggggg way! You will not be poor in that country if you are living on your social security dollars or even 401k dollars..
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
I like the way you said you won't be poor in the Philippines if you're living on retirement dollars.... True. The minimum wage in most cities in the Philippines is a $1.35 an hour and in the province much less. You don't have to do any work and you're already making more than most people. True there are many people richer but it's a wide gap.

use your money wisely try not to fall on parties, sex, enjoying everything spending money for nonsense activities. find a good friend a person who is not interested in your money. you can find good person in provinces if your planing to go to Philippines. then buy a land and build your house. . Try davao city and any provinces,but stay away from part of the country which is dangerous. If possible not near manila or manila it self it has expensive way of leaving, if your ok with that then pick manila.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
The whole idea of The Island Generation is to spend money wisely... also our situation in a community setting where people can save more than an individual. While most of our community members will be couples I'm sure will have singles also that that may look for that right person in the Philippines.... But you are correct in advising a nice person from the province that is not seeking the other person savings but truly looking for partner. As for building a house that's difficult because of certain rules that's why at our community that problem will be solved to protect our investors, and retirees. Our target is more of the Tagaytay region. cool breezes and relatively close to downtown or beaches or quick hop on a plane with the group outage to exotic beaches. As for parties and sex as you put it... Well he might be old but not that old. Pool party starts at 4pm !

@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
The camera I primarily use came out in 2009 for like $1,200 ... Way top of the line camera at the time includes 120 GB drive. It's a Sony Handy cam HDR -XR500. Every now and then when I see someone ditching one on eBay I'll pick it up or cheap price as a backup. But so far the original has not stopped working as you can see it takes really sharp photos. I suppose I'll upgrade to 4K at some point. In addition, I use the Sony remote mic which is really nice but it's an additional product.

October 2016 - The recent changes with the new president has not deterred us. Essentially we feel that Durterte will cut deals with China and maybe even Russia which should hopefully with the new USA administration in 2017 rushing to the Philippines to counter offers. The Philippines is in a very unique situation of at least the two of the major richest countries and and 3 of the largest superpowers all vying for trade and helping the Philippines. If the president can pull all this off and keep everyone in line the money pouring into the Philippines will be immense.

You are right, my friend! Live like a king. And everything you said is right on the ball. US companies know how to milk you off your money as much as they can. They only leave you enough to keep you alive. In the Philippines, you can hire a maid to do all your laundry and dishes. Cook for you, if you like. I love to cook. I cook all my favorite TexMex dishes right in the Philippines and when I am done, the maid just cleans up the kitchen and it's ready to go again next time I see a good recipe online. It's great.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration 4 года назад
You're exactly right it. Its about companies that will realize the average money that retirees make and then charge them so they have a penny left. The only way to fix the issue is to move to a spot where the retiree is the anomaly. The retire is above average and therefore can do well. This is the whole idea of The Island Generation. But you know this, you retired in the Philippines already !

@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
We been open to all locations but found that the Tagaytay area more appealing from the point of cooler climate and resort area. Puerto Princess is a beautiful area I would even say one of the world's best. But for retirees we need to look for long-term so we need to take into account the cost of electricity, storm damage etc. Also being closer to the capital provides us with a multitude of hospitals and other services within a few hours. In the retirement community would plan to have events going to different places and one of these would certainly be Puerto Princess.

How do you buy land if you are not Filioino or married to one you cannot but a house you can buy a condo
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
You're correct as an individual foreigner to the Philippines cannot own land. This, of course, can be quite difficult for a foreigner to buy a home because there is always that concern that their spouse may one day decide to take it over and kick them out. That happens all the time. So the idea of the Island generation is to let our Corporation deal with the legalities and long-term legal structure. The retirees would rent from the corporation or even invest in the corporation as a large entity with interest in the complex. Some retirees may just choose to rent others may choose to invest and get money back from their investment in the property. But they are protected by a spouse moving out or family trying to move in because the property is owned by the corporation with its emphasis on forming the community that provides security and peace of buying with their investment. Also as a community, it gives us a great deal of buying power and ability to weather any storm or repair. As I have always said we will stay within the laws of the Philippines and provide a safe place to rent in a beautiful community and a place to comfortably invest if the retiree wishes to do so.

Mark Burnett unfortunately you speak against the truth as many more, who don`t care to read the laws of foreigners to "own" a land in the Philippines. NOT ANY foreigner can OWN any piece of the land , residential, agriculture or commercial in the Philippines! This is ONLY for Filipinos! You can build a company which ownership is 40% foreigner and 60% Filipino and this company can. Also if your spouse as a filipino or a filipina , he/she owns the LAND 100 %. Of course you can own the building but NOT soil under that. You can RENT a lot, land for 50 years + more 25 years if accepted by the owner but that`s it. Still the ownership is only for filipinos! If the apartment is in CONDO TITLE, then you can own it, no more.. Just to make it clear, ok?!

Steve Yes in every Filipino video as a rooster in the background or some guy banging on some metal ! I understand the area where you are going has three islands but I believe only two actually have roads which one are you headed to? Soon I have roosters in the background as we get building our building or purchase a facility outright. we are in negotiations now it's a big purchase for my Filipino investors.

+Mark “The Island Generation” Burnett Pacijan just a few miles from San Francisco. Poro the other main island ,they are connected by bridge the other two islands you need a boat, I think i will not have a cock fighting rooster near me,just a peaceful life by the sea, have heard they plan to build a 5 star resort with gambling in Poro I got a good deal on it, hard to beat ocean front for 800 peso a sq meter,Brownouts are few there. No buses and no trikes allowed on Camotes . Good luck
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Sounds extremely peaceful. For our retirees were seeking a little bit more towards town in the big Island. So if they want to get an Uber driver they could or use one of our vehicles that comes with the driver. We will be near lots of restaurants, shopping and our facility will be fairly quiet except for Pool parties, theater room and the occasional guys doing air guitar while listening to Queen in the bar. But we will have those trips to the beaches and other facilities throughout the Philippines. Maybe when they get the five star resort built down your way we can come down and visit

+Mark “The Island Generation” Burnett It would be a shame they build this resort, but it i on another island,best of luck. i play music and sing but think i will just enjoy spear fishing, i am ure i can live on my pension but wish to live a a pinoy very simple life, but there are some very nice retirement places i think the nicest was in Cavite , i am sure there where home owner dues as the house where small but very nice complex even had a Dr and gym
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
If they built a resort in the island you talking about yes that would be a shame however I'm sure very beautiful. Interesting mentioned Cavite it is one of our target areas to build our retirement facility. I believe he could live on your pension with a very simple lifestyle. For the Island generation is basically trying to build a facility that allows people to enjoy more amenities at a moderate pension. Giving them much more enjoyment for the retirement dollars than they could get in the US

Hi Sir Mark again, I will assure you, (this is a follow-up from your November post) once you established this 'Island Generation in the Philippines', I'm indeed interested to invest on this because this is really an opportunity to both of us living in this unique World. I will subscribe soon to your channel...I think a lot of local investors (not just only foreign investors) really interested this kind of idea, just deal with Philippine Stock Market... Good Luck again....
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
You're right a lot of Filipino investors I think will quickly understand the economics of what I'm putting together. I am already working with Filipino investors but the more the merrier. The Filipinos understand their own economy. They understand have a large low cost help with the medical, a driver or the daily maid. All things retirees typically would like to have. Also that have low rent costs. All were doing is combining all this under one roof for the Americans and Europeans to utilize. Win-Win for investors and retirees
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Wave Dancer is right. I have people in the Philippines meeting with numerous authorities to set up our facility correctly and within the rules and laws of the Philippines. I would point out that Philippines has one of the best retirement programs in the world. As for China I would not worry about them they are in a land grab mode right now. China is just waiting for the UN to try to curtail them and then the say they built the islands themselves. I'm sure the new islands says somewhere made in China. As for corruption, its everywhere in the US we call it special interest groups and then there's Congress. But any retirees are welcome to come to The Island Generation when we complete our building they can spend a month there or six months before signing a longer-term leash if they want. They don't need to invest anything ever just pay a monthly rent and hang out with us a few months ..

I like this!! Why haven't I seen your channel before? This is such a wonderful Idea. Please let me know after everything has been setup. I am interested.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Thank you for being interested in the retirement community in the Philippines. Currently, I've been talking to both developers and investors so been a bit busy to film but starting in February 2018 should be back cranking out videos. In addition at some point soon I'll be sharing the developer video which is on RU-vid but it cannot be seen at the moment because only developers in the Philippines are studying it now. Its 25 minutes long and goes in depth to the project. but the whole idea of this video channel is to be transparent about entrepreneur side, working with developers, mayors in the Philippines and everything that goes into building this community and possibly more than one. for me it's very important that the community has all the components necessary to create a really nice retirement life surrounded by amenities that are reasonable and that you can afford throughout your lifetime. so all I can say is subscribe to the channel stay "tuned" ...you can always communicate with me on mark@TheIslandGeneration.com

Mark there is one thing I'd like to know. Are the homes going to have hot and cold running water? If not, can a central hot water heater be installed?
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
By all means feel free to send me an email and ask any questions you'd like in addition sometimes I try to set up phone calls. I do not monetize my site on RU-vid so no advertisements, I talk to people freely and openly. Mark@TheIslandGeneration.com
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Our plan is to build a low rise garden-style apartment units and also individual homes design around retirement size units. Of course, because we're catering to Americans a lot of things like hot water are a definite requirement. Again a lot of this will be hashed out with the builder as we move forward but the idea is not to lose any luxuries we already have here in the US but to add new luxuries to the community like centralize maid services you can pick from your phone app which maid you'd like to service your place, built in community medical clinic, American-style restaurant but also be serving a range of other ethnic foods, small grocery store (carrying even Costco Kirkland brand products) and numerous other amenities and services. Once we cut a deal with investors and the developer or developers we pick and will be moving more quickly. We already beginning development on the software side that will run app the retirees can use to order just about anything 24/7 at my other company www.APDI.com
@villasisbacag
@villasisbacag 6 лет назад
Mark, how is the project going? Any idea how long before you start breaking ground?
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
the project is still moving along a matter fact we just posted a new video about how many retirees in the US are retiring each day... 10,000 a day that's a lot ... But in the meantime, we are talking with developers and investors. unfortunately, we can't announce these background negotiations. but we're still moving forward

You can always email me directly at Mark@TheIslandGeneration.com and check out www.TheIslandGeneration.com website. There are many things I've got going on in 2018 to get investors and talk to developers. Things are going well but this size project does take some time to get everything in place. Of course, will always update people on the RU-vid channel. But you can email me if you have a specific question which will probably answer quicker. Some things like negotiations going on right now with developers we cannot make public yet.

There is one big reason why cost of living in the Phil. is low. It is bec. standard of living is also low. Inherited a house over there but not enough good reason to live there permanently again.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
It's because the standard of living is low that retirees can prosper in an environment where labor is low cost. If the cost of living is very high then retirees would suffer greatly. This is what's happening in the United States with 78 million baby boomers moving into retirement it will be very difficult for many of them to live well by lowering their cost in the Philippines and joining a community where Americans are caterers to create an environment where they would live well. As for your inherited house not sure where you inherited that many homes are out in the province and not really conducive to the American way of life. I'm sure if the house was in a nice gated community you would probably stay there
@ishallreturn4976

Hi Mark nice to know you have the program like that in the Phil. I'm Pinoy in the US I'm definitely retire there just waiting for my kids to finish college. I was actually looking for a condo or townhouse in my island Panay, I heared they're starting to build in the main city. My parents has property but we could not find the papers it was handed from generation by word of mouth. What upset most the last time I went home, there's 3 houses standing in our property, I gave a warning to move out & even took my dad to tell them to find a place but no use now their houses are Concrete instead of bamboo. My bros not interested cuz they want city life. I'm tired of that busy life in Chicago. What I'm asking is do you have any health plan in your retirement investment. It was a headache before when my Mom got sick, she has gov't. health plan but not enough. Pls. let me know. I used to live in the quiet mountain of Panay island. Still wide open space, fresh air.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
+Vzb Tjl On the facility we will have a medical clinic. Its major goal is to handle wellness care by providing easy access and unlimited access to nurses and the house doctor spot illness before it becomes more complicated. Healthcare is always an issue and I've met here personally with the head of a group lobbying Congress in Washington DC to get Medicare in the Philippines. I've also talked with CIGNA world health they do have a plan but it's expensive and it's only one person I do believe when we bring the community together we will have additional buying power in a group. There is also PhilHealth but the amount of cover for more complicated issues is limited. I believe once established also we would reach out to those hospitals that provide the best care and work to form a partnership or working relationship with them. This would be impossible to do as an individual but as a group we have a deal of buying power
@ishallreturn4976
@ishallreturn4976 8 лет назад
+Mark “The Island Generation” Burnett Nice plan I hope you will someday build a facility in Iloilo. I plan to just have a condo/ townhouse in the city but really planning to retire in my ancestral home in the mountain. By the way I worked in the hospital in the US & used to be a staff in the ICU in the Phil. I also volunteered in the community clinics there before. Our gov't there offer free doctors & medications in the towns/ Barrios only Corrupt gov't. officials sometimes take advantage of it. Good luck tho.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
+Vzb Tjl It is our thought after building this center which may take a while considering its size to look at other spots are retirees might also want to go and allow them to change units in between those spots as if they were in the same facility. It is a possibility in the future. So I that you volunteered for places and they were less than you expected. Your heart certainly sounds like it was in the right place. We want to make our facility in the medical clinic top-notch being able to help our retirees maintain their good health and help them spot future problems way ahead of an offer the best course correction we can

I'm 30 and trying to get out on my own after a very serr situation not by my fault btw.... I moved to oahu but don't like it. I was probably going to the big island but the cost of living and lack of city life, good health care and things are putting me off the idea. im looking for a place with good health care/ city and nightlife/ technology advanced / and nice people. can you make a video of places outside the US that are the "Shangri-La of living". I want a city diverse in culture, hip and has a lot to offer, safe to live, minimal natural disasters. I want to live in places like Amsterdam or London, really nice places with a lot to offer. I've been trying my hardest and keep looking but my lack of knowledge in geography and we'll everything is holding me back.... I just feel lost. even a comment back i would be great full for your time. I liked your video, keep it up!
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Well if I've discovered anything there is no perfect spot. but I think it's what you make it.... Same reason I'm trying to build a community with other people with the same goals in the Philippines if you strike out on your own it's always important to understand there will be issues no matter where you go. You never mentioned work and your age is 30 so I assume that you're financially retired at a young age. Going to the Philippines as a young person and then trying to find work would be a horrible idea. Jobs do not pay much it may be difficult to find the job as a foreigner in last year into a high-tech field. You mention places that are low in natural disasters... Is always interesting that the more beautiful place is the more natural disasters that has. But if you have the means the best thing is to travel to a place for a week or two to really check it out. Meet the locals maybe you can find someone you can trust online that can take you to the behind the scene places. I have traveled to both the Philippines and Thailand as an example as well as Japan. I've stayed in the suburb areas as well as downtown Bangkok and a hut in the middle of the rice fields in the Philippines . but wherever you're at you always have to realize whether it be Europe or Asia or even here in the US that political things can change suddenly. I personally believe that a group mentality and why am trying to form a community in the Philippines for retirees just makes more sense . There is always helping like-minded individuals, you may lose some privacy but you gain in camaraderie and like mindedness . It's a very interesting note that a number of individuals that have contacted me from the Philippines are already living in the Philippines with their Filipino wifes but actually want to join our community or at least rent six months out of the year there . I don't really make any other videos about other countries as you requested as my concentration and selection has been the Philippines because of the unique capabilities I believe that it gives to retirees. Again like I said things change. 10,000 people in the United States become 65 every single day an astonishing number . And now the new administration by Donald Trump are already talking about changing Medicare so the retirees would have to pay in something or have vouchers. you see what seems like a great retirement plan can be turned upside down even in the United States . Stability is somewhat of an illusion it's always best to have your backup plan or to be in a group that shares your same goals and can plow through problems with both financial capabilities and the ability to support one another in times of need.

magandang araw . For a USA retirement visa - what is the minimum social security income and maybe a bank deposit ?
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
The minimum income for a single person is $800 a month or couple it's $1,000. There are some exceptions that make a single person have to required income from Social Security and/or pension over $1,000. Essentially the application fee is $1,500 for everybody You also have to put down a deposit which stays in the deposit form throughout your stay in the Philippines whether it be a year for the rest of your life. If you leave the Philippine you can request it back by surrendering your lifetime visa and waiting until any landlord or doctors don't say you have any outstanding bills. or you can invest $50,000 which include your deposit whether it is in a condo or pay in advance for rent .... That's a lot of advance in rent by the way. Those deposits can be as low as $1,500 or $10,000, $20,000 or $50,000. The cost of your visa per year for most people is a $1 a day ($364 year) but as low as $10 a year for some. keep in mind you'll need to pass a medical checked in the Philippines or in your own country. better to have your neighborhood doctor you know run some blood test and just make sure you don't have a communicable disease . Also, a background check which can be your local friendly Doctor

Retiring to Philippines? Well, Bulacan, Laguna and Cavite are bursting with subdivisions with house and lots or lots ready to be sold and occupy. You can acquire a lot in Cavite for 600K, idk how 'big' is that (in sq meters), but it's enough to built a 2-storey house for a small family. You can have a small house and lot for P1.2M. The rent-to-own 1.3M condo units are also in the market. Retiring here is no problem -- but the biggest issues are the political & judicial systems. Politician names are everywhere, they could be sued for vandalizing the streets and justice are rarely serve right (even with evidences and witnesses, a crime against right someone influential or rich is a punch on the moon).
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
American pioneers that will buy into a Filipino community, I agree .... But our American community in PH with integrated services such as sharing maids, chauffeurs and help... like Uber for any kind of service for retirees. Integrated medical center, on grounds convenience store, American restaurant, American bar, theater and highly trained staff in American style management. That will be very difficult to reproduce. The Island Generation will be unique in that way.
@milosales2062

Living and retiring in the Philippines are very cheap if your bring in your earned dollars. This will sustain you very comfortably if you are in good health. However, if you have a major medical issue and expense, the medical insurance program is totally different as it is in the US i.e. Medicare. Your dollars will go fast and the technology is quite behind.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
I agree Milo you can live comfortably on retirement funds. The Island Generation is designed for upwardly mobile retirees. We will have a medical clinic on site to spot potential problems and keep our residents as healthy as possible. I have met with a political group here in Washington DC from the Philippines, that is promoting and lobbying US Congress to get Medicare approved in the Philippines. It would be of course a lower cost for the American people to utilize Medicare in the Philippines. CIGNA insurance already has a global health plan which is accepted in the Philippines in big. hospitals In addition there are other programs we are working on. You can get Medicare if your in Philippines but a 4 hour plane ride to Guam

As a matter- of-fact I have meet in person with The Interim Board Chair of U.S. Medicare Philippines Organization www.usmedicareph.org/ They are still working on getting approval. Medicare is available 4 hours away in Guam right now. But a retiree could get PhilHealth Ins that cost you $80 A YEAR ( yes a year) and you can get Hospital care through out the Philippines.
@daspicer1
@daspicer1 8 лет назад
+Mark “The Island Generation” Burnett Medicare is not available outside of the USA. PhilHealth is worth the money, and it's much less than the mentioned $80 a year. However, on average it only covers about 20% of the cost.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
+David Spicer For American Retirees we are considered “Informal Economy” for Philhealth classification The range in cost PER YEAR is $51 - $76 based on wages but SS and Pension are not taxed or wages in Philippines that come from US so could be $51 but to be honest I would pay $100 a year for any health insurance.. Got to be the cheapest health insurance I would ever buy. Hopefully they will come out with a premium package! www.philhealth.gov.ph/members/informal/registration.html

@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
+Rob Tipton All retirees can bring a travel companion with them at an extremely reasonable rate. The travel companion's job will be to keep the retirees informed as they are exploring the Philippines. Not just sightseeing but we are not to go... Like that's "Detroit" "let's pick a better town to go to". Over time the retirees will be doing things on their own and hopefully we have educated them enough in what things to look out for and how to be savvy. Maybe you'd like to be a guest speaker on my channel and explain what things they should watch out for in your opinion? +Wendell Smith That's an issue in many foreign countries. You can own land in the Philippines but only 40% if you are a foreign. The Island Generation will have reasonably priced apartments with a ton of amenities. with us you can be part of an investment club or group that we will form that that can invest in. This investment would not work if you bought an individual house but only in a situation like ours

Can I live there in your community, I am not white but a US citizen ?
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
My wife is a Filipina so my kid is PEANUT BUTTER color ! Color does not matter only good heart and interest to live in a community of like minded people that may want to reduce the cost of retirement. US citizen no problem. There are many ways to retire in the Philippines. You can even get a permanent Visa that is only for retirees over 55 that lets you stay in the Philippines forever and leave back to USA as many times as you want. Its the gold card of travel !

1000 dollars a months in philippines is more than just enough.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
I would agree with you that it is possible to live on $1,000 a month in the Philippines... I mean millions of Filipinos live on far less than that. But as American standards go to attract the most Americans to our community the cost will probably be higher to live with much more amenities. I should also point out that the Philippine Retirement Authority only requires $800 a month for individuals and $1,000 for a couple. But as food prices rise and the air conditioner that the Americans will obviously want to run and that $1 an hour maid service.. retired Americans need to be thinking about what will my budget be 10 or 20 years in the future or even more. Inflation is worldwide and Americans will not be able to work in the Philippines and make a decent living when there are 65 or older. Of course in the United States, it will be much worse as 78 million Americans will go into retirement that's 1/4 of the entire US population. And the protectionism that current administration is applying, for instance, today adding a 50% tariff on washing machines means that prices will skyrocket in the US so some will have no choice but to seek retirement outside of the US to lower their cost, so personally I would not recommend that someone try to retire with just $1,000 a month but certainly many will have no choice
@crisaldea9656
@crisaldea9656 6 лет назад
I agree but still 1000 dollar a month is still above average. electricity with a/c would be about 4000 pesos a month, house rent about 5000 pesos a month for village not complete with amenities and 20000 pesos for high end village. that will leave you with 25000. 1000 dollars a month is okay if you already have a house in philippines and not pay any rent.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
I definitely agree since you've taken out the cost of the house or housing... Then you're correct you can live on a $1,000 a month
@jonagr1622
@jonagr1622 6 лет назад
Totally agree with you, $1000 is already a good budget to survive for one month. My mom and brother are living in Baguio City and their budget is only 18k per month. Electric bill is 800 php per month. I visited my boyfriend in the US recently, California weather is nice and surroundings are clean. But I realized that cost of living is expensive there. You pay taxes whenever you but food or other items. It's much cheaper to live in the Philippines.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
You're correct Jona... Living in the Philippines is cheaper. Even though inflation is hitting the Philippines right now driving prices higher it's important to realize that in the United States prices are also rising. The price of fresh fruits for instance in the United States has almost doubled. With tariffs being imposed on many goods this also will result in higher prices in the United States. For those on a fixed income of the USA, you can imagine how the Philippines look a little more attractive from a budget standpoint.

To Mark Burnett. The relationship of the Philippines and the USA is like the relationship of boyfriend, girlfriend. US, being the boyfriend is taking for granted his beautiful girlfriend. GF wants to get his attention, wants to make him jealous by making it obvious that she's got an eye for two more handsome men and that is China and Russia. So, chances are that if regular BF - USA will continue on ignoring his regular GF, the GF will flirt on these two new men in town. Get the point ? Now BF - USA wants to station some interceptor missiles on Philippine soil for protection on Guam. Philippines is on a very strategic location.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
While I like your description of boyfriend and girlfriend for the US and the Philippines. To answer that back to her girlfriends not just flirting with China and Russia you could include South Korea and Japan... Well, let's just admit it is a whole orgy of Asian nations in there. The problem right now is the US has a really bad case of ED so there's a little dating anything past foreplay. In Philippines new hot date China has moved to the second largest economy in the world they can pretty much bet she's going to get what she wants. Unfortunately, the US boyfriend is headed for protectionism.. which also could be coined as dating oneself. That was different and interesting ....still good place for retirees

THE REGISTRY OF DEEDS ALLOWED TO PUT YOUR FOREIGNER HUSBAND NAME IN THE TITLE PROPERTY CERTIFICATE..JUST SUBMIT YOUR MARRIAGE CONTRACT FILIPINA WIFE AND WRITE A REQUEST IN THE OFFICE OF REGISTRY OF DEEDS....YOUR FILIPINA WIFE'S NAME MARRIED TO..HUSBAND'S NAME...SO THEY WILL INCLUDE THE HUSBAND NAME IN THE TITLE CERTIFICATE OF YOU PROPERTY..
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
I agree with what you're saying you can register the husband in the title of the property. However just like in the United States you could register an undocumented partner in a land deal. But if the person of United States origin were to pass away then in the United States the undocumented person would have a hard time being able to hold that property or even consider the original registration legal. In the Philippines is not the problem that you can't register someone it becomes the problem of when the land wills over to a foreigner the foreigner would have to dispose of that land quickly. They have no majority right. And in essence my then owning 100% of the land they are violating the Constitution of the Philippines. That's why we have looked at it from the corporation owning the land so that it lives on. Or having a corporate lease on the land that is owned by Filipinos that is binding over the life of all the residents. As a group we would not be affected if one person passed away.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
I stand corrected Cheryl... Thank you for pointing that out to myself and the readers. But according to the lawyer Philippines.org which I supplied a link to... That situation may only happen if the spouse who passes away has no living relatives or children. United States we have rights with survivorship which would be an absolute right to the surviving spouse. The Philippines the surviving spouse might still only own 50% if there are other relatives are children involved according to: lawyerphilippines.org/2016/03/28/can-a-foreigner-inherit-land-in-the-philippines/ So what I'm telling my readers and watchers is to be cautious of the law they are used to in the in the US versus what is in the Philippines. This could be especially bad if the relatives really want the land or house that the deceased left to their partner who is a foreigner. Our thinking was just to get around this quite simply by corporately owning the property and leasing the property back to the retirees. By adding a clause that any surviving spouse may continue the lease as long as they wish. Provides peace of mind and an ironclad way to deal with what could be a horrible situation. But under your scenario where there are no living parents, siblings are other interested parties foreigner could live there and continue to hold onto the property

You are correct for individuals however a cooperation which we would set up can own 40%. by non-Filippino citizens also, all the improvements can be 100% owned by non-citizens. we will stay well within the laws of the Philippines. Also all of our units will be rentals and therefor not be condos which require a diffrent set of rules

If the Philippines is so great like everyone portrays it, then why you have 3 millions filipinos living in the USA? Why don't they all go back t their country, reason, USA is the best country to live.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Your reasoning is not correct. Filipinos lived here to work. They work as nurses, post office or as engineers, etc... They send a good amount of money home to help their family. I also know of some that have built commercial buildings in the Philippines and will collect rent as they retire back to the Philippines. The better question is how many retired Filipinos do you see living here ....it's much less. Some of my Filipino friends that have lived in this country will retire back in the Philippines with Social Security, pension and 401(k)s. They earned all of this just like an American would. they just know they can go back and live like a king as they put it. Filipinos have just as many rights to Social Security and pensions as we do they work just as hard. And the interesting thing is Americans can follow them and return the Philippines in the same manner. that's why developed Island generation I understand what Filipinos have known all along

live like a "king" because there are to much cheap workers around you
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Yes, you're right... Retirees can have a maid and/or medical assistance far less than in the United States, In The Island Generation community maids will be $1 an hour (U.S. Maid $25-$35 an hour) and medical clinic in the community will be extremely low cost and have waiting time to see a doctor or nurse greatly reduced. With 78 million baby boomers retiring how easy do we think it will be to see a doctor in the near future in the United States? Doing this by yourself living in a province I admit it would be difficult or pretty much impossible to live like a king. It's pulled resources and amenities within the community that make it happen. Our employment philosophy is to hire people that can follow our commitment to excellence in service. While providing our employees not only ways to make tips, bonuses, and other incentives that will allow them to make the highest compensation for their field. My plan is not some crazy investment scheme made by tons of retirement planners just wanting fees. But a real way to reduce costs because that's the only thing that's going to work in the future for retirees

whats best visa to get for long term stay there
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
There are a number of options and you might want to check out page on our website that covers this in detail. www.theislandgeneration.com/#!fc-philippines-goverment/o700l In my opinion the military retirement visa is the best. Serve anytime in the US military and have your honorable discharge. You can use this along with a $1,500 deposit and a $1,500 application fee to get a PRA( Philippine retirement authority) lifetime visa that's renewable for $10 per year. It allows you to go in and out of the country anytime you want and comes with many perks. If you have a Filipina wife and she is still a US citizen she can apply for the retirement visa (if she's retirement age) and include you in on her program along with two siblings. If Filipina wife is not a US citizen and has maintained her Philippine citizenship then you can get a visa under a 13 a program as her husband. I believe this is renewable every five years so don't get divorced! Your "green card" Next would be one of the Philippine Retirement Authority retirement programs. that for most retirees would be $10,000 deposit ( refundable if you no longer want to be in the program or leave the country and you only have plans to come back as a tourist ) same $1,500 application fee but a $346 yearly renewal fee. The reason for the deposit is that if you skip out on your rent or other obligations those businesses can file against your deposit. this isn't much different than a US citizen applying for my fiancée visa in the United States they must prove they have sufficient income to support the fiancée. in this case the Philippine government skips all that and says deposit $10,000 in a bank show us you have them sort of retirement benefit Social Security or something else of at least $1000 a month ..... And you're in, now other people go the hard route and just keep renewing their tourist visa. you can do this for 18 months but then have to leave the country for one day .... Yes one day, and then return and you get another 18 months . Just a pain to do all that
@bit2serious
@bit2serious 7 лет назад
Went to Immigration Monday in Davao and was told the six month visa is no longer offer you can only get the two month tourist visa. I would suggest if you find you are going to stay you get one of the retirement visas so you do not have to leave the country every three years. For me I have to put up a $10,000 bond which I can get back at anytime for use to purchase a condo or invest in a business.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Thomas Martin: I'm familiar with the Philippine retirement authority so understand the long-term visa would be good but here's a good question in your time in the United States did you ever serve in the military even for a short time?

@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
While in this title " live like a king" it doesn't come with any Royal decree or power but it has come to mean to live much better than you were before. It's a metaphor for a better life. I'm sure that's how your friends or associates are using it also When you consider that 1/4 of the US population will be retired shortly, that's 78 million people. To be honest for most people anything will be better. Nobody's talking about the retirement crisis but I am and putting forth a solution to live like a king in an American community in the Philippines and not like the jester in the US retirement crisis.

If I'm retired law enforcement can I own a gun there and carry it? It all sounds good, but the reason I don't travel out side the USA is because of not being able to protect my family. It all sounds good, but you're in a vulnerable place if you're not allowed to carry a gun. I wouldn't want to live in a communist like setting of england, canada, Australia etc. If they're a true free country they should allow the carry of firearms.
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Understand your concern. I owned a business in the US where we had a considerable amount of cash and I had a caring permit so familiar with your interest in protecting you and your family. Currently in the Philippines foreigners cannot own guns. Gets a little gray if you're wife is a Filipina and buys the gun in her name and then you used it to defend your home. Keep in mind there is a new president (Presient Duterte) that was just elected in 2016 he is very much for shooting criminals.... Seriously ...and he gives rewards for policeman that shoot robbers. Not a bad idea actually. The president is pro-foreign investment I'm sure he will do a lot to protect those that come to the Philippines. It certainly would be well within his line to help protect those foreigners by allowing them to purchase and carry guns. We'll just have to see how that unfolds in the future. On another note The Island Generation would be a secure facility with armed security personnel . I'm sure a number of our ex-military and law enforcement officials that are retired there would be glad to help with training ! Frontline security would also be backed up with cameras throughout the facility and a separate monitoring team. Also our target area for building has a low crime occurrence.
@bubbacrabb

Mark Burnett after dealing with what I have for this many years I'm just not going anywhere without myself being armed. I'm glad there's security and all that, but it all boils down to you needing to be armed yourself. Hopefully in years to come they figure out an armed society is a peaceful society. Criminals will always be criminals no matter the restrictions. I got a little while, hopefully it changes some;)

Why the heck would you invite americans and european to live here?! You would ruin filipino lifestyle.. real estate n other commodities will skyrocket.. go live somewhere else
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
Bringing in Europeans and Americans to rent facilities or houses in the Philippines helps the Philippine economy not hurt it. It creates jobs and opportunities. You need to look more at the key economic factors that affecting the issue. Certainly, South Korea and China actually get more passports than Europeans or Americans to settle in the country. But in my research, the Philippines has the highest birth rate of any growing country in Asia. This creates an overabundance of workers that cannot get jobs and keeps wages low. The rising housing will happen anyway along with increase in food cost but this is happening all over the world

Although overpopulation is a bad thing I'd rather have it now than have it when the cost of living starts to skyrocket. One day it would be the decline of population that would plague us. Although I doubt that would happen as using contraceptives are not really widespread in marriages.
