Some of My Aunts and Uncle were born on Grape St in Watts. I lived in "Victory Park" as a toddler btwn 63-65, during the Watts riots. My Cousin was in the Imperials in East LA in the 70's. Mom rode the red cars to the Pike and the beach in the 50's. What a trip true OG LA history is, thanks for the post. PS: Lynwood,South Gate, and other 'all America Cities' East of the Alameda Corridor spawned leather jacketed white gangs, (dudes trying to look like 'Brando' or "Fonzie')who were rolling into Hoods West across Alameda to start shit w/ brothers, and raza who lived in the 'DMZ' ( DMZ was the buffer zone btwn usually between black and white neighborhoods. tracks, a freeway, river or industrial area divided where Latinos and 'otms' assimilated, for example, Santa Fe ave on the East and Long Beach ave ( Blue Line now) on the W est. the area in between is the 'DMZ')
I remember a new kid in my 3rd grade class, his dad was from the spook hunters. he lived in Lilly White Lynwood and then moved to Huntington Park / Maywood border. we became friends and would always tell us(classmates) he could never invite us over. eventually my friend joined a mexican gang and his sister married a mexican guy. he didn’t care for mexicans but learned to tolerate them. he still living in the same area. i wonder if he would be willing to do an interview. dude got to be in his mid 70s now
Notice how he tries to imply that some Farmers (Black club), were just as racist as the Spookhunters. Also dismissing the Spookhunters as a product of that era. You always have to pay attention to things like that.
