Retired in the Philippines/ When Things Go Wrong! Old Dog New Tricks@paulinthephilippinesolddog9234 An example of what can and sometimes do go wrong when living in the Philippines
I have been through 2 checkpoints on my way from Bacolod to San Carlos . They were mainly looking for weapons. They checked my License and asked me what I had in my backpack. I told them only clothing and they could look if they wanted. They did not search my Backpack and sent me on my way. It. was the same both times. Any encounter that I have had with Police in Philippines has been positive. They have always been Professional and helpful Unlike in the U S where they are digging for a reason to lock you in a cage.
I got extorted for 3K PHP outside of Manila by a bike cop in Feb 2020 before the lockdown in a legit traffic stop. I'd MUCH rather get stopped in the USA than the PH police!
Another Great video Paul. You are right on about the police in the Philippines. Usually if you are polite with them, you can go on your way. I have had several encounters with Philippine police, and it has all been positive. Have a safe flight to America my friend!!!
Safe travels Paul. Hope your father is doing well. My reason for coming home was my mothers health. I was fortunate to spend the Covid years with her. But her time just passed and this summer I will finally move to the Phil’s. So enjoy your time with family. In Mati, no one has taken the drivers test. Everyone paid a fixer and got their license. So they all went nuts when Mati put up their first traffic light. See you soon…..
Hey Paul , glad you didn’t get hurt. But your getting to that age that four wheels under your aso/dog might be a good idea. I’ve been looking at the Owner Jeeps as for myself. Even though at our age I still Ride Motorcycles , street and off-road in the States, Your an old car salesman, a broken, arm, leg , and brain bucket is no joke in the Philippines. Love you Brother keep it safe and on two wheels.
Hi Paul, just a thought.. maybe bring a compression socks with you when you travel back to US. Last time I traveled back to Philippines my legs started to feel heavy mid flight. luckily I listened to my friend to bring one and had the socks handy. Few minutes after I put it on I started to feel better. the heaviness and discomfort on my legs went away. I have traveled on long flights and never had any issue before. Maybe it’s my age☺️. Wishing you a safe and bearable flight.
Regarding checkpoints I see usually lots of riders stopping about 200m before to wait until the checking activities are finished. According to law the police is not allowed to check on vehicles and riders, when they are just parked on the side.
The best way to get respect from someone is to give them respect. It is also much more fun to be nice to someone than to be rude. I'll carry this same attitude with me to the Philippines.
Filipinos do that here in USA. Left turn from the far right lane…I just about took out a guy here in Indiana and his family. We have a large population of immigrants here in Indy. He just smiled at me until I got him pulled over. Hope he learned a lesson. Glad you guys are okay!!! Be safe and enjoy your trip!! Love both your channels 😊
Sounds like the rain was coming down hard if not your Mic is going out. And what you said about getting lippy. Goes to one of my sayings. ( don't say F-U to someone who can ).
Hey Paul my dear friend, thank God that you and Baby Mae are okay. Driving in the Philippines can be a great challenge. Please have a safe trip to America. And when you get back home to the Philippines, I'm sure that our paths will cross brother. Thank you for sharing this awesome video my dear friend, please stay safe and healthy, and God bless you, Baby Mae, Riza, Jennifer, and the rest of your beautiful family.😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
I plan to do a quick trip to AAA before I leave for good and get an international license. One less thing to worry about the first year while I take carenof the SSRV and get settled.
Good Stories Paul and Mae! Here in Ormoc City, you will see 50 plus motorbikes waiting downwind from the LTO (PNP) check point. They don't have registration, license, or both. have a motor, but mostly use the car. I'm 65, so my balance isn't quite what it used to be when I rode motorcycles for years in my 20's. Plus, my asawa doesn't want me to ride it too much! They have a lot of check points during election season. I usually get waved through.
😎👍 🇺🇸 Watched Mae's video passing through a check point. I always file away bits of information. I ride in the states almost every day rain or shine so I know what I can usually get away with. I've learned several tips so far just by paying attention.👍 Although a big smile and a energetic wave as you pass by might be the trick 😆 Cheers.
Thanks for the information awesome help as I am about to ride around the Philippine Loop. I was told the same at the LTO I can use my Australian license for 90 days but have my passport with me to show them my arrival date
I always give myself extra days leeway for anything I plan in the PH for this reason. They don't believe in giving customers/patients a heads up for closings and changes.
Hey Paul. Howard Stucki here. Living in South Jordan Utah. Originally from St George ut. Want to meet you in Vegas. Hope you have a meet and greet with all your fans in Vegas and area. Will be there to help if you need someone to drive you around.
Dog...gonna miss you vlogs when you are gone, but I anticpate and look forward to your US adventures videos upon your return! Safe travels and enjoy your time in the states! I am sure you will be getting your fill of American food while you are away, but moderation my friend as you worked so adamantly on your diet! We hope Mae doesn't get too lonely without you.
Your story about smiling and waving at the checkpoint guys reminds me of crossing from La Linea into Gibraltar with my new bride. A very charming border agent with her impeccable British diction told me that the entry tariff was such and such. With a smile and a laugh we simply drove into Gibraltar without repercussions.
Good morning. Just discovered your channel recently, and thank you for all the great info. I did miss one which I’m curious about since the last time I watched was under the impression that your not returning to the Philippines and now you mention this will be just a brief trip. Thank you, Mark
Hi Paul... I know this Is two months on and yes I have watched all your follow on vids since. But It's still spring In the northern hemisphere so I'm watching again. When you leave the country after extending your visa beyond the 30 days free.... You go the the visa office In Dumaguete and ask for your criminal clearance and they do It for you. I know as I have done It. Cebu you don't need to visit, unless you know better!
Paul as usual I always enjoy your videos and I always come away with a little nugget of information that will be helpful when I return to the Philippines shortly. I'm really interested to hear about how you compare your trip back to Las Vegas with your living in the Philippines. Safe travels to you! And I'm definitely going to try to buy you and Baby Mae your favorite beverage when I return to Negros. God's speed!
Hi Paul lucky the lto guy was right there as being a foreigner it’s hard not to just drive away so you are so lucky both drivers went there seperate ways cheers gerry
I know I'm a new subscriber but I'm not new to the Philippines but I am in the UK since covid wrecked all. Anyway have a safe flight Paul and see you when you get back and eventually when I am back hopefully we can all grab coffee and lunch but only problem is I am based in San Pablo City, Laguna. Anyway great video as always bro. Peace.
Love the way you pass along first hand information that helps everyone who visits the Philippines 🇵🇭. Great to learn from others experiences so your can be prepared in advance. Did you contact JRC and bring up your situation? Just curious if they just over looked sending out a notification.
The 1st time I went to the Philippines was 2005, to meet a girl. I made the ( big) mistake of reserving a rental car. The traffic and driving habits there make it very challenging to drive the streets. Anyway, we were once approaching a light, I asked if I was supposed to turn left. Both the girl and her brother said yes. The light changed, I started turning left, they both screamed for me to continue straight, so I did. Meanwhile a cop saw what I did and waved me over. They were going to hold my license until I could go to court. Her brother told them I was leaving the next day (I really still had anither week before leaving) and they gave the license back. Whew! This was Cebu by the way.
Thank you again for a wonderful RU-vid. I plan on going to Valencia for the first time in three months. All you RU-vid’s are so helpful and insightful. You are making the world a better place with your messages. I would like to contact you with questions and am having trouble connecting to your Facebook for some reason. Can you help? Thank you. Have safe travels. Mark
Seems like you had one of those days where nothing seems to work. At least you guys were not hurt in the bike incident. Hope you have a safe trip Paul and that you father is recovering.
A word of advice to all who are thinking of moving overseas is to know your new nation's holidays. February 25th was a holiday in the PI so of course businesses were closed. Here in the U.S. businesses don't message us to remind us that they are closed on national holidays you need to be up on things don't blame the businesses.
Paul I just got to Cebu last week. I believe that Friday or one day last week was a holiday. The celebration of the People's Power Revolution. That could be why everything was closed.
