As an Christian elder and minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I can undoubtedly say that this was one of the best messages that I have ever heard on RU-vid! There is nothing to add.... just a word of encouragement to keep sharing forgiveness, love and an opportunity to receive and enjoy the free gift! God bless you Paul and Jay!

Nonsense. Boring is stressful as your wanting to chase bikinis but don’t have enough self esteem to try so you end up watching RU-vid and keep doing all the things that doesn’t really make you happy instead of doing the things you do so you become bored and stressed. Not a good combination so grab your speedo and show the ladies your pot bellied hula dance.

It's called Stoicism Uncle Pauly! Finding the joy in the mundane, the beauty in the ordinary. What others consider boring is in fact a wonderful life. I didn't realise just how fulfilled my grandfather was until I came to understand that idea. He would happily sit for hours just listening and watching. When he spoke, however, you knew he had considered it deeply. Keep being boring.

I'm not a Catholic but I woke up and told my fiancee that we needed to attend Easter Mass which she did not expect to hear from the Christian American. She was so proud to go with/take me to Mass that day. Good people are good people which may sound corny but if it's in your heart it will come out.

I've already developed some of that, which is strange while still being in the US. I used to work 50 to 70 hours a week, made a ton of money, and was miserable. About 4 years ago, I started turning down all overtime after remembering a good friend of mine who years ago told me "No one on their death bed ever said Damn it, I wish I spent more time at work!" Thing is, after all that my ex took all that money I made. Poof. Now I am an average 60 year old man getting ready to retire in a year and a half. Invisible here in the States. No other goals other than retire in Bacolod makes one strange here. That's okay, because I get to watch everyone get miserable on the gerbil wheel trying to get "ahead" while sitting contentedly in the park or wherever.

Sounds familiar, good to get out before it's too late. A lot of my past co-workers developed medical problems, were miserable and some past away maybe due to stress. One of my best friends worked a lot all the way up to retirement, he retired, then when I visited him at home he was talking about just coming back from the office. I told him that he did not go to the office and that he retired a while ago. Eventually, turned out that he entered into a dementia stage. It was happening as he thought he was still working. I helped out getting him help. He went from hospital to assisted living to nursing home to death. His home was paid off, had a large amount of money in the bank and it's all gone by the vultures.

Watching you helped me make the decision I’ve been trying to make for 11 years and really retire. September will be two years since I turned off the television. Now I need to turn off the desire to get up and go do something for somebody else and start doing something for me and with my wife. I’ll keep watching and I might just pass through your area in October and say hello. I last five weeks in the Philippines was the most relaxing time I’ve had and I’m looking forward to that again. Jesus is not for the perfect people he came to allow those of us who are not perfect to keep trying and doing the best we can. You have found happiness I am working on that myself! One of your crazy people! Thank you for being you!

Excellent video Paul. Many years ago in Canada, I climbed that crazy "ladder to success" and became very "successful". It also brought great anxiety, failure and grief. After beating my head against that impenetrable wall, I finally leaped straight out of the box and moved here to stay with my Filipina wife. We live a very simple life in the provinces on a tiny pension but we manage. Life is very slow and boring and I love it!

Wow, Paul! That was an inspiring video. I remember one of your videos where you mentioned the age when folks were most happy and it was 10 years old. At 10, you had some independence, some responsibilities, but your aim for the day was just to get together with friends and enjoy life. You said that was what your life felt like now... and for us still in America, in the rat race... all we want is your life, my friend. Thanks for sharing your adventures, it is much appreciated. Take care and God bless!

I bought into the “success” program for 55 years and I WAS successful. The minute I decided to retire though I put that behind me. It was a career and a life I was mostly proud of but now that is over and it is the time to do something else like have my own version of a successful retirement. i go to the movies. Read books. Swim in the pool. Visit a museum. I get a massage. Travel locally a little. Mostly I am in the condo with my wife. Once a week I go out and meet English speaking friends. I never had an identity problem with retirement. I am a retiree. Getting rid of all my possessions to move to Thailand . . . I call that a success!

Paul I've been watching your vlog for about a year and I knew you were special ! Your testimony about the young barber, Jay, was very moving! You may not realize how much you are impacting the people who watch your videos. I was born again in 2014 at the age of 66. All my life I thought I was a Christian because I went to church and thought I was a good person. I found out later thankfully that my only way to be saved was by confessing my sin to God, repenting, and claiming Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. It was because my second wife, a Filipina, steered me in the right direction. I know it wasn't just by chance that I met her because God had it planned for me that way. Because of my being born again I'm at peace. Paul, keep doing what you're doing. God bless you brother! Best wishes always. Don Haren, Clearwater,Florida

Thanks Paul, sometimes we Christians, need to be reminded of this. We all fall short of the grace of God. He continues to pick us up, brush off the dust and forgives us as long as we believe. I never belived that until later in life. I didn't figure it out until I was into my 50's. So this guy was 23 years old - probably a lot younger. I wished I would have got it back then, it would have saved me and those who knew me, a lot of grief. Ok I will get off the pulpit - I am debating on retiring to the Philippines or Panama. I will be 65 next month. Healthy but struggling with the decision.

Boring is good. That has helped me save money. No get rich schemes, going on cruises, gambling, lottery tickers or buying a lot of things I don't really need. My idea of going out to eat is cooking a hot dog over a fire. Follow the herd and you will be just like the herd. I married a Filipina, brought her to Arizona and am very happy. Very hard working, with a pleasant disposition. Sent her to a cooking school before she came over and she loves it. I can't wait to send her to an advanced cooking class in the Philippines and drop another $2000 as she loves that stuff. I saved her from a slow, painful life and she is happy every day. Paul I certainly enjoy all your videos and I find you to be a man full of wisdom. We go to the Philippines every two years except that it’s August when I return with my wife it’ll be the first time since 2018. I’ve been going regularly since 1989. We’ve been married since 1983. When we go to the Philippines I’m there for 4 to 5 weeks. I retired in 2018 at the age of 58. But I cannot stay in the Philippines. I have too much going on here and I enjoy it. In fact, I love it. Once I retired I started a second part of my life which has to do with veterans military museum and other organizations related to veterans here. I also have a couple of hobbies. In the Philippines where I live in a central island group of Visaya, I could gather hobby material that I love to do but I miss my friends here and the new museum we started two years ago. So of course everyone is different. But after three weeks of being in the Philippines I get very itchy to come back here in the US. But I understand when you spoke about that gentleman having to slow down. I can catch myself sometimes knowing that I’m very fast and my wife even pointed out. But for me, I love it. Paul again, I really enjoy your videos and I’ve learned a lot. I love the way you speak and the way you explain things. Keep up the outstanding work.🇺🇸🇵🇭

Hi Paul. As a retiree here in America for 3 years now, two things you said in earlier vlogs resonated with me: (1.) "I'm comfortable being alone." (2.) "I like not having to "show up."" Even with those two wonderful attributes, transitioning from the hurried lifestyle in the States to the slower lifestyle in the Phils. has to be pretty damn difficult. Even in retirement here in the states, I have to constantly remind myself I'm not "on the clock."

Paul I could listen to you every day! Your format of welcome your sincerity and rather Buddha like wisdom ( I know you are laughing here!)about the simple life . I think your strength is as a story teller (although interviews are good some are too rambling depending on the interviewee)and are blessed with a captivating Avuncular voice. I look forward to your blogs!

Thank you Paul, you are a good pastor to us ordinary people. You are doing great. Thank you for this moving story. I also tell people I do nothing when they ask me what I do here (in Spain btw).

Your young barber has been blessed by God. As difficult as the path may be which lies ahead for him, he will continue to be blessed. Thanks so much for sharing his story, Paul.

I started listening to you and Gio and Mark over a year ago when I put my house up for sale in Florida. I wanted to move down the street from where Gio was in Mactan. I was a little disappointed that my house hasn't sold yet. But I trust GOD has a better plan for me up ahead. I looked the other day on RU-vid and the condo I wanted to go to, had a 200 ft ship crashed in front of it. The Ibiza waterside restaurant was also completely wiped out from the typhoon. Still praying God can use me over in Bohol. And thanking him for slowing me down a bit. There is a lot to be said for a Boring Life, Brother.

Just enjoy the life that's given to us, for there's riches in the common things around us than all the gold of the world. Blessing and peace be with you Paul and of course baby Mae.

I enjoyed the word of wisdom Paul.,I’m a born again Christian.,grew up going to church every Sunday. I was a choir and bible teacher for kids. God always been faithful to me though I’m a sinner. When I have worries prayer always works. Thank you for reminding me how blessed I am to know God. God bless you and Mae.

We love your videos Paul. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us. It is a blessing that you share your knowledge with your subscribers. This is something the young generation back here in the US of A do not want to hear nor do they respect. I can relate to the fast paced GETR DONE! lifestyle Paul. I believe we become desensitized to our surroundings as we age. We take the little things for granted. One thing I have observed on our trips to the PI is that Filipinos never lose their sense of surroundings or family. The little things mean so much to them. Like sharing a meal or a trip to the beach. You inspire me to be a better human being. Will be there permanently in less than 3 years. We hope to rub elbows with you someday. God Bless!

Isn't it Amazing to think that this 1 barber having a conversation and entertaining his client, now has a positive message of the Word of God, shared with over a million people world-wide thru his client. Ya never know where that next haircut might lead us to !!!

Some may say my life is boring. I get up when ever I want to unless it's a doctor appointment day & drink coffee til I'm ready for beer or liquor or both while I watch vids on yt then fall asleep. Rinse & repeat every day for several years now & I am very happy all things considered.

I like it Paul. Keep it real brother. Happiness is about the people around us, not the $. First time I lived rural, fell in love with it and let go of all the bullshit expectations. Love your vlogs 👍 Hahaha……23. Wish I was that intuitive. Live and learn. God bless
