What. a. setup.! Mike has so many tools! He loves tools so much, he's made a good number of his own. So much experience and a genuinely nice guy - Mike has won in life. He no longer has his speed shop, but he still goes out of his way to help others. He teaches basic theory to a lot of the young guys working with him, and he's just so excited that some of them are catching on. There aren't many guys out there so willing to pass on their knowledge. He just wants people to succeed. Mike, thank you SO much for the tour. If you enjoyed the tour Mike took us on, give this video a Like!

For those who don’t know, many vocational schools have had to up there pay considerably in recent years. In order to draw instructors, they’ve had to get pretty close or beat current market, hourly wages for mechanics to come teach . Not a bad gig

I'm with you on the comfort grip. I don't like them either. I am 100% a chrome handle guy!! Im sure there are instances when its better, but i prefer chrome all the way!! Also, I love those roto head ratchets!! Most people don't prefer them, but I absolutely love them!! The problem is that the majority of them have absolutely terrible back drag, but if you get a good one like the snap on, carlye, koken, (a few others too), they are the best type of ratchet to use, and the most versatile, in my opinion. They are usually my go to ratchets actually. Its like Mike said in the video, no matter what angle you flex it at, the pressure and centering is always up top, right in the middle of the head, where its supposed to be!! They are also stronger than a standard ratchet, and can yeild higher torque ratings.

I had most of that older stuff over the years. Sold my timing light with advance😮 dial and boss gave it back. Snap-on sent it off for repair which I thought was the cord but apparently not. It came back not red but black plastic and working. $115 but it is my original Snap-on timing light. Replaced my old Snap-on torque wrenches with vintage ones online 1/2 and 3/8 with reverse ratcheting like head. They both work very well. Cost about $149 each used. I have several of the big red folding Snap-on MT meters including digital volt ohm and the cylinder balance testeter in the box with manual. You just dial up the cylinder you want to cancel on old cars and push the button and listen or watch for RPM drop. I got both types of those old lifter pullers. Mine is KD USA. Still have one Cornwell Blue hard handle stubby #2 Phillips and old yellow handle. Blue-Point USA spin handle and a yellow handle flat tip with a chrome Snap-on blade. Also have various small letters Snap-on vintage wrenches and a few Blue-point USA combination wrenches. I still have my complete set of Snap-on 3/8 deep chrome SAE socket set I purchased around 1985. Unfortunately all my old Mac impact and chrome sockets are worn out or discarded due to no dealer. The only Craftsman tool that survived is my 1/2 drive -V- ratchet. Still use my original 1984-85 Snap-on 3/8 standard length ratchet. I had the Counselor II scope with rolling stand, but the leads were trashed and I sold it. I picked up a brand new mechanical RPM gauge with a stem and rubber end you place this thing on the end of a shaft electric motor or compressor and it tells you the RPMs. I never used it but it's a very nice tool. I mean I could have used it in the 80s but didn't have one.

I recently read a quote where a “know it all” stated “if you to make a tool you are using the wrong tool or don’t want to buy the right tool”. What arrogance and how stupid. How does he think new tools or new anything is created? When a person sees a need, creates a tool and creates a solution to a problem, proves they are way smarter than the genius that said that.

I've been a banker for 30 years and recently got into wrenching, nothing advanced and I'll be honest, its a bit addicting. However, I know how impulsive I am and if I had been a mechanic, I'd be broke because I'd be too tempted to buy every tool off the tool trucks. My father in law recently died and had a ton of tools which we had a professional appraise. Unfortunately, the $ return on those tools is a fraction of what it cost him.

Great video !!! This gentleman and I are probably the same age. His experience spans the same era as mine....except he is still keeping up with the newer stuff. I saw a lot of things in his tool box, that are the same as mine....or close to it. You should do a video on his shop.... In fact, you should start a new channel or add a second segment to your existing channel, called "Shop Tours".

I would imagine that this guy would agree with me.. If I could have the knowledge I gained over the last 45 years, I could have been so much better at maintenance of my business. or let's fill in the blank.. .... if we know now, for people in their 60's, that we could have know in our 20's we could have been so much better at what we do. This mechanic has a lifetime of tools, but more importantly a life time of autiomotive, motorcycle, ATV, etc knowledge now than when he began his career. this is a great video.

Ah yes - to be able to go back in time with the knowledge we have today.. but that’s the beauty of life. Live and learn 🙂 Thanks for watching!

He had so much more than what I filmed. I could probably go back and film for another 4 hours on top of what was in this video. He has so much cool stuff. I’m so grateful he had me out.

This dudes pretty cool for an older cat this video proves there's way more to being a mechanic then just wrenches' sockets and pliers lol

Oh yes. The tools most definitely don’t make the mechanic.
