Wow. I am blown away by this presentation. I was an insecure 49 year old on SS in January 2018 when I started buying Bitcoin/crypto. Everyone though I was irrational. Most still do. I put my income in every month and watched the value drop each month but for some reason really believed in Bitcoin and alt coins/blockchain even though I don't totally understand. Finally, the crypto market started turning around and I am astonished at the value of my crypto currency portfolio today. Everyone has some thing or things that give them joy. Having grown up in a lower income environment, I had to work hard to overcome my initial standing and find happiness in simple things. It's mostly attitude, and sometimes luck and timing, but being aware of what is possible and making choices that bring success- large and small wins- is important over a lifespan. You also learn from mistakes and hopefully don't make them again, but challenges toughen you and cause you to adjust expectations. Finding ways to improve our life need not cost gobs of money. You can't buy sunsets, love, respect, or time; but you can surely appreciate each and try to experience them often. This 2nd year of retirement I'm focused on physical, mental, and spiritual health. The cost of these is spending time at them. No longer having to work to support my personal time, I can pursue those things that give me joy. The whole "numbers" angst is a distraction that no longer interests me. I have enough.

There are very few things that will pay off more than building a new skill for your career. Moved from Accounting under-grad to Information Systems / Information Management (finished a Masters in < year). Changed company once (moving more would likely have paid off). Being skill flexible has made all the difference.

I’m 51 and we’re on track to retire in a little over 5 years. You can never buy more time or more health. We visited my 45 year old buddy today who’s been in the hospital for 2 weeks and just had a bone biopsy. Life is not guaranteed to be long. If you don’t know how much you need to retire per month, you’ll waste decades of your life going to work and aiming at nothing.

Azul, I know you have 20 yrs of experience however finances is VERY PERSONAL for example that $250 k doesn't apply to me because I have NO DESIRE TO RETIRE IN USA. That 100K in this age is still applicable

Mike, I think you have made similar posts. If you have the ability to manage your funds well then great. A lot of people can’t and don’t want to do that. An advisor will keep you from buying high and selling low. They will allocate properly, and are someone to talk to when markets aren’t doing well. They aren’t crooks if they help you.
