You missed an important one...I've seen this happen more than once and I'm shocked every time. You are waiting in a security line at an airport. Someone official looking comes up and requests you get out of line and follow them. They take you to a room and then demand money from you to get out of the room. Please no one ever get out of line and follow someone (even if they have a badge on)! Just stay in line and pretend like you don't speak English if necessary! They did try this with me once and I just completely ignored them and kept walking forward in the line. Then I saw them go up and down the line and try and get others to follow them - unfortunately targeting older folks.

AirBnb tip: the moment you arrive, walk around the space and look for anything broken, damaged, not working, etc. Take a photo and send to the host to ensure they're unable to charge you for the damage later.

Financial planning is like navigation. If you know where you are and where you want to go, navigation isn't such a great problem. It's when you don't know the two points that it's difficult

Having an investment advisor is the best way to go about the stock market right now. I was going solo, but it wasn't working. I've been in touch with an advisor for a while now, and just last year, I made over 80% capital growth minus dividends.

Sounds interesting. I was planning to invest some few £ in some coins, stack them up and leave them for a few years, but seeing this changed my mindset. Thank you very much

Counterfeit scams are rampant in China. In fact, if you are depositing or withdrawing cash in China, the bank clerk will check every bill by running these through a machine. My friend got scammed by a taxi driver in Beijing China. He gave an 100 RMB to the driver, who took the bill and then returned it back, saying that the bill was a counterfeit. The original bill was not counterfeit, but the one the driver gave back was.

The taxi scam literally just got my good friend in London. A guy approached her at the airport and asked her if she was looking for a taxi, she said yes, and he led her to a car. The driver then proceeded to charge her $400 for the ride to the hotel. In the end he let her go for $200 because it's all she had in cash. This was her first day in London. She was so upset.

YES!! Be very careful when renting a car. Photo or video the car before and after. This issue saying I returned the car with damage has occurred to me several times. Also, avoid interacting with anyone coming up to you from out of the blue and asking questions. Lastly, never accept anything somebody tries to hand you unless you initiate the transfer.

Also take a picture of the gasoline gauge. I’ve had rental car companies try to get extra money by saying the car was not full when it was.

I wish I saw this two weeks ago!! We flew to JFK last week and were approached by a man holding a sign that said Uber on his phone. It was so confusing, people were telling us we had to get on a train and go to terminal 7 because Uber drivers will not come to terminal 5 because of construction…. So we made the BAD decision and went with this guy. On the way he proceeded to tell us that we had to pay $355 CASH to Manhattan. He was so aggressive and I told him to pull over and let us out. He stopped in the middle of the highway and I said get off the road. …. Long story short he would only take us to an ATM where I had to pay him $120 cash. …. I wish I would have called the police and taken some video but our real Uber driver showed up while I was paying the scammer and I just wanted to go. The real Uber driver was so nice and helped us feel better! We learned our lesson and our 15yr old son will learn from this as well.

Be mindful, in Morocco’s capital the evening time is called prime time. However, stay away from the red taxi’s. Some drivers want to earn a commission from where you will eat lunch or dinner. One random driver took us to LeFluer and it was the worst. We were scheduled to go to La Scala and he told us La Scala was closed!! Meanwhile the restaurant was walking distance from our hotel.

That's awful about shady AirBnB hosts adding secret fees mid-stay and rental car companies charging you for nothing. So glad you nailed them on trying to cheat you.

I try to avoid renting cars while traveling (my travels are in the US). The last 2 experiences were bad. I use public transit, ride share & cabs. I volunteer at a large airport. Before the pandemic, “fake” drivers were a problem at one terminal. I saw them in action. They were really bad characters. Great advice here for domestic & overseas travel.

We'll never use Abnb again as had a very bad experience with a superhost-lots of things didn't work-safe, no hot water, large blind in living room which was only one of two windows and our review was taken down! Not our first bad experience-so done with them!!

Great points. We always video tape car rentals pick up and drop off.😊 Don't forget those who put cheap art on the ground in busy walking areas to over charge and scare people into buying when the accidentally step on them.

It’s not just outside the US. In some places in America, there are car rental companies that allow you to drop off the keys and walk away, especially after hours as they are not 24/7.

Renting cars here in America can be a scam too. I’m hot with all car pictures and video. Get their car insurance and throw it in their faces. Using public transportation to leave an airport is a blessing. My plane was late going back to Stuttgart in the winter of 91. By hours. Cell phones really didn’t exist. So I got on the bus leaving the airport to downtown Stuttgart train station. Brought back a bike and had a few suitcases. Got to the train station took the elevator to the train platform. Caught my train to ludwigsburg. Got a taxi to the American kasern. At the guard shack called my buddy looking for a lift to the barracks. He threw everything in the back of his truck and drove me back to the barracks. Told me off for not calling him. But, was happy that I was resourceful. Public transportation is the best ever🎉. And back in the day I distinctly remember paying 25$ for the bike box. Cheaper than buying a new bike.

At some tourist spots in Europe, scammers dress up as a knock off Mickey Mouse or whatnot and pressure you to have your picture taken with them (eww, why do I want to take a picture with a fake Mickey in front of a historical church in Switzerland?). Then they ask for money for it. If you try to get away, they will relentlessly tail you until you give in.

FUNNY MEMORY: Service Not Asked For. In 1958 on a shopping trip to Hong Kong, young shoe shine boys would come up to you, "Shine, Shine" and then dab shoe polish on your shoe to try to force you to pay for a shine.

In the US and EU there is always the “meter is broken scam” or “my card reader isn;t working. Driver tried this once after multiple confirmations they took credit cards and that I had no cash. I just walked away once at the terminal because he’d lied and the problem was his. That’s why I’d almost always use prepaid car services (when on business travel). However even these can be scammy. I booked one once from London to Heathrow. I paid $80 (in pounds) but once I got to the airport and was waiting on the plane I got a charge for $260. I call the company and was told the $80 was just a “reservation fee”. This was a corporate card so I disputed the charge and let them fight over it. I think eventually they just paid it.
