A friend of mine was a NYPD K-9 police officer for 15 years of his 25 year career. His K-9 partners were trained to be family dogs when off-duty. But they always seemed to be “on watch” at home which made his family feel safe. They’re amazing animals!
Six years my wife and I adopted a retired MWD. He was and still is a lot of work with baby steps to transition him to civilian life. He is a great dog and we are not sorry we took on the task. He is almost a normal dog but requires lots of time and love put into him.
He looks like my retired Malinius, she was 8 when she retired and had never lived in a house before. When a police dog retires you don get a pet you get a retired Police dog very well trained but not as a pet, she was the best dog I have ever had ( Sorry Baxter, my deceased Rottweiler) I have a new retired dog arriving in March, he will have been a general-purpose dog for 8 years, he's a German Shepherd and I am hoping to have as long as possible to spoil him for his service, Police dogs work hard and should enjoy our loyalty as much as they give it
@@Skies133 Hi EM, it depends what you get, I've just a retired 8 year old German Shepherd, he doesn't require miles of walking but does need to go out for a decent walk 3 or 4 times a day, the Police retire dogs for a number of reasons and all types, try your local force, its not always easy to get one but they normally require volunteers to help out and it's a good way to see if you really do want one or could give them the time they require
@@bobs63 do they have trouble getting along with cats or other small animals or is that also down to Personality? I was actually thinking of adopting from my home country where they don't easily find homes despite all the work they do for the country.
@@Skies133 Hi, My Malinois was not good with any animal outside of the home environment my German Shepherd is very well behaved with other animals and people, I think it does depend on the dog and the training they get, both my retired Police dogs were kenneled and not regarded as pets, both adjusted very well to living in the home although my Malinois never stopped being a Police dog when out of the home, she was extremely difficult to manage outside but well worth the effort
"Sargent Vasku is getting in trouble at home huh?" lol - ya darn tootin'! 9 long years of not only abiding by law, but enforcing it.... Mr Vasku deserves to cause a little mischief 😈
Hmm strange did they say that dog lived outside most k9 officers have there dogs in there home when there working there working and when there off there the family pet mabe its different in az
This is when the dog needs to calciums the most animal dog specimen according to science treatment treatment to any principal client treatment calcium this is the best time to give it this is when the animal needs it most calcium
The use of vicious attack dogs on civilian citizens has no place in a nation at peace. All people have a fundamental, intrinsic human right to defend themselves from animal attack. No vicious police dog has any right whatsoever that supercedes that of a human being. The training which makes the dogs vicious on command as well as their use in this fashion constitutes animal abuse. Whenever possible these poor beasts should be euthanized. Any person making false claim that an attack dog is an "officer" of any government within the United States is the very worst sort of felon and traitor. A municipal, city, or state government that devalues citizens human and constitutional rights so profoundly is no longer a legitimate, lawful or for that matter sane entity and must be treated as such by all justice minded, honest, decent, and sane citizens. No person is obligated to sit quietly and allow a vicious attack dog to mouth or maul them. Any person in reasonable fear of any animal they believe can do them serious bodily harm has every right to defend themselves with lethal force against such attack. Police k9 handlers are felons, animal abusers, and traitors. Many police k9 handlers make extensive efforts to immorally, evilly, unlawfully and unethically brainwash other peoples children with bizarre totalitarian, authoritarian beliefs that attack dogs are "officers", that they have similar rights to police and that citizens have human or constitutional rights when confronted by one. Create an attitude of outspoken public intolerance of k9 handlers degenerate psychological operations on your children in our schools and communities.
Don't know if your tiny brain is smart enough to realize this, but literally no one gives a crap. So kindly shut up. Thank you. Obviously you hate dogs, so get a life.
Canine officers don't get the respect that they deserve.. especially when videos of officers mistreating the canine start appearing... And that reporter at the very beginning that hairdo was not professional looking for a professional environment
