Fascinating! I am in the process of choosing some Pfeil tools to begin some woodcarving. I currently do contract sculpting for giftware and collectables companies, but that's all done in wax and clay. I thought I had a good collection of Pfeil tools picked out, and was about to order them, then I watched Reto use a couple gouges that were much larger than I would have thought. I especially loved how he shows how to get more cuts from a single tool.

What is the name of the thing around his wrist? "spoon"? What is the purpose and what is the material important? I can't understand his explanation.

It's real. Most likely Basswood.

@@WoodcraftSupply Most likely European lime or limewood. Same genus as North American Basswood (Tilia), but a bit more dense. Also called Linden-you often see little leaved linden growing as a street tree in the US.

That particular carvers vice is Reto's item. We carry this one: www.woodcraft.com/products/record-power-carvers-vise

They don’t carry this anymore. All the vise/holders I think are worthwhile aren’t offered. The veritas carvers bench is the first that comes to mind. I suppose I’ll just have to get creative and try to build my own
