Love seeing a master crafts man share his ideas and knowledge. Especially like the drawings, no use of CAD, it has been a real pleasure to see him at work.

Thanks Carl! You are seriously my favorite woodworker on youtube. I'm just starting out in woodworking and what I wouldn't give to have you as a next door neighbor that I could learn from. You're videos are the next best thing! Thanks!

I practically NEVER "Like" or comment any youtube videos ... However, Mr. Holmgren has changed all that! Sir, I'm just beginning my woodworking journey and your videos are sure to be most helpful! Thank you so much! Wishing you continued good health and prosperity!

The system is ingenious. The only thing I really dislike is the fact of the pedals stay in the way of the workbench operator. Being clumsy as I am I will certainly stumble on it.

Carl, I just want to say your caster designs are ingenious. I wish I had just a fraction of the woodworking knowledge and experience you have up there in that head of yours. Thank you so much for passing a bit of your knowledge to all of us RU-vidrs.

Thank you so much.i was trying to figure out a way to make one for my jointer and still keep it inside the skirt, make as minimal changes to the jointer base and have enough leverage. I'm going to use a modified version of this for my jointer, it gives plenty of leverage. I'm also going to check out your other videos of these series and subscribe.

Very clever Carl! I need to roll by table saw cabinet out of the garage onto my driveway and negotiate a 1 1/2" vertical drop via a ramp. Do I need larger caster wheels and/or just different mounting to clear ? Looks like your casters barely get the legs off the floor. Thanks.
@CarlHolmgrenwoodworking
@CarlHolmgrenwoodworking 4 года назад
Bob, All of my caster designs lift the tool or bench off the floor approximately 1/4". This is because the leverage is designed to make it easy to lift heavy tools and because the casters must be located as far outward as possible for stability when the casters are extended . I would suggest trying to create a scale drawing with the casters in both the extended and retracted positions and see if you can create a design with more lift. ////Carl

Carl, I presume you could use a bandsaw to make the cuts on the ends of the 2x4's to make the extra room for the swivel casters? This is a very good idea.

Carl, I've watched your retracting caster videos many times because I can see how I could use a few of your ideas. Do you think your caster retracting system used on your tool chest would work on the workbench? It would get rid of the foot pedals which stick out and are in the way. Your thoughts?
@CarlHolmgrenwoodworking
@CarlHolmgrenwoodworking 7 лет назад
Jacques, Absolutely, the tool chest caster system would be fine on a workbench; it's just a little more complicated. /////Carl

I'm interested, but I think my workbenches are not as deep as yours. Therefore the fulcrum will be shorter. Does your plan help with conversions for different width bases?
@CarlHolmgrenwoodworking
@CarlHolmgrenwoodworking 8 лет назад
+Ronn Brashear No conversion necessary; the casters should be mounted as far apart as possible regardless of the depth of the workbench. However if the bench is less than 24 inches, you may want to use 4" or smaller instead of 5" casters. ///Carl

Very impressed with this concept. Ordered the plans using PayPal but there was no link to download them provided by the PayPal receipt email. Probably just a glitch, but I really am looking forwards to using the plans to help me get some cabinets up on this type of rolling system. Is there another way to get the link to download the plan? Thanks.

+John Manning We've sent you a link to the download package. Can't explain the PayPpal glitch. Hope this clears it up. Thank you for your order. ///Carl

I would get tired of smashing my shins into those foot pedals. It's a nice system, but not on a small bench like that. Maybe a 4X8 assembly table.
@CarlHolmgrenwoodworking
@CarlHolmgrenwoodworking 8 лет назад
+Dave Stone Thanks for looking at my video and thanks for the comment but I beg to differ about banging your shins. When the casters are retracted the pedal sticks out about 4 inches - when the toe of my boot is against the leg, my shin is about 6 inches away from the leg. Regardless, when I build my craftsman's Beech hardwood workbench, I will build it with a little overhang at the legs. ////Carl

I am surprised someone would work machinery with something dangling from their neck
@jimspc07
@jimspc07 2 года назад
I cringe when I see you using a table saw and having that whatever it is dangling round your neck. I see you getting a nose restructure on the blade along with left and right forehead seperation as you get pulled down when it gets caught. Why cant some youtube "influencers" stop displaying total disregard for safety and setting poor examples. Nice wheel set up though.

I don't like this one I would be tripping over the protruding foot pedals!!

... & please, do NOT work at rotating machine like tabelsaw with some necklace/ keychains like that - THAT is very very dangerous ;-)
