There is a reason they stopped existing, they were arrogant as hell, never made friends in the right places, thus the other airlines survived and Pan Am failed
The first 30 seconds has brought tears to my eyes, well, actually the entire production. This golden era shutdown 32 years ago today. Yes, those magnificent aircraft and all those true professionals. Taxiway LL, the Kennedy VORTAC, and 31L . . .JFK! This is where Mom and Dad took me, to Idlewild as a baby. I was hooked! Pan Am, TWA, American, United ruled then, with the whole world passing in parade. The observation deck at the IAB and the parking lot on top of the PA Worldport. Where I spent my teens with my Sony Airband, and led to my aviation education, piloting, and career. I love it, I miss it. Thank you Mom and Dad forever, with Love. Respect to all in the aviation industry past and present. A grand time to be there. Thanks for presenting this great video!
Those who missed this era in commercial aviation will undoubtedly never-ever truly realize what air travel was like back then. Today’s lay-flat seats and IFE systems simply can’t compare to the overall inflight services that most carriers operating the B74s provided you here. Great memories viewing this...I really enjoyed it.
I remember these earlier Pan Am jingles and was still had them in my head! I'm glad that you were able to compile them... Thanks for the memories ...They epitomized the excitement of air travel when travel was exciting and glamorous!
Hell, who DIDN'T have a 747 in them days?!? My god, still the greatest airliner ever - for their day a technical marvel and unchallenged in the air for over thirty years - what other jet has that record? They STILL look huge - imagine how they appeared to the eyes of 1970!
The paint schemes on the old airliners sure are cool. I like the polished metal look on the belly. The Northwest Orient at the beginning has it, you just don't see that anymore.
If you go to 7:59 of the video, would you happen to know what late 60s group is singing that iteration of "Getaway"? It's super groovy! All the versions in this video are fabulously orchestrated & vocally stunning...Love it 💓
I worked for Pan Am in 1987 until they closed down in December 4 1991 it was a sad day it was the such a iconic airline that started the airline industry
Bons tempos.
Unfortunately bad management was the downfall of Pan Am, but what a great vid seeing the liverys of the various carriers and the aircraft types most of which are no longer in passenger service
So BEAUTIFUL this is....I am right back into the seventies and regret that I did not have the opportunity to fly in all these different types of aircraft as I wish. It is all history now and almost all planes are Boeings 737, 777 and so on. The real icons are gone forever...
