Baltimore has been like this. The only difference is that now we have a 24-hour news cycle that let's you know what's going on in real time (social media)
Its been like this since the late 60s early 70s. All this started around the time jobs moved out and welfare moved in along with the drug trade. My grandfather grew up in Little Italy before the jobs moved out and most of the white folks left to follow the jobs. From what i understand the city was a pleasant place to live back then.
Yet, the locals would lead you to believe that it's all Mayor Scott's fault, and he should've cleaned it all up within one year of his tenure as mayor. SMH
This was around 1988, I was 7 years old, the police all wore white shirts back then and wore their covers (hat) faithfully, and they were just starting to switch to the box Chevy Impala, they were still driving Ford L.T.D.'s Chevy Malibu's and AMC Eagle's 🦅 I remember the 80's clear as day. There were so many people back then and stores everywhere, I remember all of the festivals, the arcade at the powerplant, harborplace movie theater, Lexington Market was much better, old town mall, the Baltimore Zoo, drive in movies, the block downtown was bigger although I was too young to get in lol but I stayed in Crazy Johns with my people's.
Look at all the Living people we had in our city...in that bmore old school slang...right...piece..crackedem and we invented the word muva(mother)😂miss old times
So strange to see the playground that I used to play on as a kid and some of my childhood friends so many years later also when the kid hit the home run you can see the house I lived in at the time Murphy homes
God bless Black Baltimore. And GOD BLESS that young Black Man for DEFENDING HIS MOTHER. And God bless her for TEACHING him what to do when his mother or any Black Woman is being disrespected by a male. Especially a white one. He had to ho to jail for being a man, and defending the flesh and blood that birthrd him. But he stood up. Wasnt afraid. And dont have no problem taking accountability for his actions. That was a stand up young Man right there. And GOD BLESS HIM in his fifties and sixties now.
Smoke was that man. When he spoke the police listened. I remember they cuffed me by my feet and hands and dragged me out the school my peoples use to work for yo office. My peoples pulled up and saw how they was treating me , I went to the district by the time they got to the color of my eyes captain came in like “we have to let him go “, the officer was like I’m almost done the captain said nah we have to let them go now ,the mayor just called 😂 he told us to let him go immediately ! And they did too 😅

That’s a question I had as well… people in the 60s-70s didn’t talk like that… so I was wondering when the accent started… which is kind on odd because how does an accent just randomly start
There has been a Baltimore accent as far back as i can remember but yeah, It has seemed to have gotten more exaggerated in the past 30 years or so. Half of my family members have that accent. The other half have Italian broken English and Philly accents😂
