Howdy, retro lovers! I hope you had a nice holiday weekend. In today’s episode of Retro Commercials, we finish up the “The Big Event” NBC TV movie tape with more fantastic commercials. You’ll see ads that include George Burns, Muhammad Ali and a really great Coca-Cola ad that evokes feelings of home and comfort. Since most of these ads are taken from part of a local news program that aired after the movie, I’ve left in a larger sized clip that discusses the gasoline climate (1979) and how prices were starting to hike upwards, as well as how folks waited in line to fuel up…an interesting contrast to today’s oil/gas situation. This recording comes from WBAL Action News in Maryland. Enjoy!

I love this because of the unexpected Baltimore news cast segment in the middle. Stan Stovall is still an anchorman on the same channel even after all of these years.

The protesting about high diesel prices in 1979 is somewhat comedic knowing how much higher prices have been in the last 16 years.

Preacher Jon this is because the pharmaceutical and medical Insurance industries are financially deregulated and greedy beyond belief. Imagine what could happen if we pulled the reins on these conglomerates!
