Last week I was actually flipping through my old Nintendo Power magazines. I remember sometimes the current issue would come late and I’d get it with next months issue. Also I loved the Nintendo Power Players Guides. Lots of graphics and really detailed.

I remember Erin's episode going through an old Sears catalog, that actually came from a few miles from where I grew up. Very nostalgic.

Damn it was so nostalgic seeing those Nintendo Power magazines. I had both those issues and the Zelda tips and tricks guide with the gold cover. I used to always flip to the classified section first when I'd get it in the mail to see if there were cheats/tips for any of the games I was playing. Such a fun mag.

We had a NES/SNES/Genesis. Our neighbor had a Turbo Grafix-16. It was really cool seeing Bonk's Quest and Splatter House at such a young age.

Man, I miss getting these old magazine like Nintendo Power, GamePro, Electronic Gaming Monthly and I some of the magazines Unfortunately they came out a little bit newer before they officially shut down. The reason why I bought the newer magazines because I my family didn't have internet that much and I always run to the library to look up there on internet what new games come out of whatever.

Game magazines were the best back then. It really was the only way to get tips and see what games were coming out. Interesting content for the the group that would actually buy this magazine

I've been collecting gaming mags since the early 80's when the first gaming mag, Electronic Games,came out. Still have my issue from 82' with Tron on the cover. The best gaming mag made was Next Generation. From about 95' to 2000' they were the best written,and most adult of the mags at that time. EGM was great also. I have almost every issue from 89' to their last issue in 2009'. Great people like Jeremy Parish started there and is still doing stuff today. Play was pretty good as well,being an offshoot of Gamefan. The best mag for tips was,of course,Tips and Tricks magazine. Dreamcast magazine was good as well but that only lasted a year or so sadly. The U.K. only Sega Saturn mag was great and the head of Digital Foundry worked on it back in the day.

I remember Time Out! There was one not too far from my house and I use to go there and play their arcade machines. The one that got the most attention was the Xmen Arcade Game. That place was always packed. Hard to imagine at one point in my childhood that the arcade was the place to be lol now their almost non existent. There is an arcade still in the mall 20 minutes from my house in Benton Harbor, MI. Took my son there to play a racing game and they had all the cabinets that I played when I was a kid. My son and I were the only ones there.

I’ve lost all my original Nintendo power magazines over the years but, I have every issue of game informer, all Dreamcast issues, plus tons of EGM, EGM2, and PSM and PSX magazines and all my original strategy guides from SNES to current consoles.

Never heard of a Sega Time Out center before now.

I grew up in NYC and never saw one of those Time Out centers. They were everywhere and nowhere at the same time I guess

But I've seen that there is an adapter out there, from retro bit, called retro port. I don't have it yet, but hopefully get it soon.

Great point about Nintendo Power being more like reading a comic book. I couldn't wait to get a new issue every month!

When I was a kid most people did not have many games, if they even had a video-game console. 3 to 5 games at most usually. And we rented games. They were very expensive. Some kids with parents that had more money sometimes had some more games. Those who had C64 and later Amigas often had some more, since those usually was copies..

Capcom was making a port of street fighter 1 to the nes but they canceled it. John riggs and a youtube channel called Evil pixel made a video about a screenshot from the prototype.

You should play Gauntlet IV on the Mega Drive/Genesis, and play Quest Mode, it also has some of the best music on the Mega Drive. A very good game.

Honestly, I find anything 8bit boring. 16bit and onwards, that is when I get interested with gaming. The sixth generation is still my favourite generation for gaming, Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube and Xbox.
