I enjoy watching your car boot buys and just want to say, Always check the bios battery before testing. if it's shorted or dead, you will have issues a great many times. Keep a battery on the bench to throw in for testing. you can save yourself some time. Better luck in the future to you!

I've had old boards not do anything UNTIL I put in a new battery and like magic they've worked! I've also had working computers not started for 15 years just up and blow the power supplies, blew a chip off one Acer, took apart the twin to see the chip number, got that and plugged it in without anything plugged into it and it blew a couple of resistors with the magic smoke released furiously, massive flash, couldn't believe it! Not something I'd expected.. ☹

Hello Sir ! Please make a video on solar inverters explaining how they work and the common faults in them.

Greetings: Why no graphics card as part of the test?

Couldn't even get the motherboard to go past the point where it detects the RAM (C0/C1 error code)

if that code means ram I would go along the ram stick when inserted/running using a logic probe and check the address and data pins (using a dimm slot pinout as reference). One pin may be dead or floating which will confirm at least that the problem comes from the northbridge, in that case a reflow may fix it.

Now that sounds like an interesting experiment, let's give it a go 🙂

I like this idea too. Adrian from Adrians digital basement does it often when he's fixing amigas, commodore 64s and apples and it's fascinating stuff. Used an $18 scope once too and it was good enough

Baking it in the oven we've all seen before...even if it worked it's not acceptable enough to sell as there's no reliability...it's a temporary botch to prove a point only...

@@markianclark9645 erm, you may want to do some research.... Richard has a proper BGA rework station so it's not just some loser baking it in an oven or using a heatgun.....

Bios reflash
@LearnElectronicsRepair
@LearnElectronicsRepair Месяц назад
That is possible though if it boots to this point usually the BIOS (checksum) must be OK

i associate asus boards in particular with failure to post if they dont have a good cmos battery although its by no means unique to asus boards

I tried a fresh CM)S battery in the video

That second one seems a goner. Could flash the BIOS.

Heya, well differant processor maybe see if the nort brights has power
@LearnElectronicsRepair
@LearnElectronicsRepair Месяц назад
I did try a different CPU but forgot to record that part of the video. I think we can assume the NB must have power as the CPU is executing BIOS code and the path for that is BIOS->South Bridge->North Bridge ->CPU
