Awesome video! I have the 36XXSP and it is by far the most awesome retro handheld I have ever played but I’m a little torn between the A30 and the 28XX. I have always wanted to own a GB micro during my childhood so I was instantly drawn to these 2 micro devices when I learnt of their existence thru RU-vid “doom” scrolling. The A30 has an additional thumbstick which allows playability of more games and the buttons aren’t as small and thus aren’t as cramped as the 28XX. But I really love the retro color theme of the 28XX and wished the A30 has it as well. The 28XX is also significantly flatter than the A30, making it more pocketable.….decisions decisions decisions aaaarrgghhh
I think I am gonna pull the trigger on the 35xxsp. Just want it for gb/gbc/gba. The rest is just gravy for me. I am interested in playing tekken 3 and VF 32x with it. Also, a little wario land virtual boy.
You can play dreamcast fighting games on the +,h,sp it can handle soul calibur, project justice so maybe it can run vf 3tb on dreamcast for me i’d rather buy the plus version same spec with the sp for $30 to 34
I preordered one and it’s been sort of meh for me. I’d rather play my Miyoo mini plus before bed. If it’s good for anything, it’s good for fighting games. The stiff, clicky buttons are good for complex inputs but horrible for simple games imo
There is no way to answer that without literally testing every joystick in the world, which clearly isn’t possible. But I can say it worked with all the ones I tried out
Love my 35XXSP so far. As for micro devices I'll stick with my original Miyoo Mini. Micro devices are cool but rarely get much play time from me. Just better pocketable devices out there like the 35XX lineup.
Agreed. Cool to have a micro vertical and horizontal in the collection (miyoo and 28xx) but I own the 35xx lineup and the sp and h get the most playtime from me.
It really just depends on what game/system I'm wanting to play at the time, since so many of these emulation devices are better/worse at running certain emulators. I typically prefer horizontal form factor units that resemble the gameboy though for form factor. These smaller devices are great for pocket ability, but my hands need something bigger if I'm going to spend more than 30 mins gaming.
Thanks Doug, I am not a fan of that iteration of the GBA, but given HDMI and Bluetooth it seems to be the best. Will you be comparing the next price point units?
35XX H is my pick for peak budget retro handheld. It just does everything and now has multiple solid firmware options. The 35XX SP is currently the best flip style, and a lot of users love that form factor. Custom firmware options are still in ongoing development.
I just picked up what appears to be a chip modded Switch Lite from one of those well known sites that ship cheap stuff from Japan. Have you ever or would you ever review something like that?
I think you are referring to China, Japan does not allow hacking or modding videogame devices, it's illegal in their country. If you are talking about AliExpress it is from China then. They sell modded//chipped Switches at low prices
The SP is a whole different ballpark, but between the A30 and 28XX, the 28XX is a much better pick given the same chipset as the SP. But out of all three, I'm with the SP.
