Late 90s -- the best time to be alive...Quake and Quake 2, Starcraft, Dune 2000, Baldurs Gate, Unreal and Unreal Tournament, Half-Life, Thief, Fallout, Deus Ex...still the best games ever created!
Zywiec is better IMO but it's an exotic beer in German supermarkets while Tyskie is nearly everywhere while both are just mass produced beers though AFAIK.
Dude, you're living the dream, all over again! Also, lan parties were more relevant in those days because the internet was slow as hell. Just found this on a old 2001 mIRC log: [Ric]{6 PING reply]: 17mins 7secs
Very nice video!!! Thank you for this immersion in this LAN Retro Party! It's nice to see the atmosphere and the troubles encountered (on the PCs of others ^^ ) ... as if there were !! Your Pentium II is very good, it's a nice PC!
I remember doing lan parties, one of them... we were almost 30 people in a normal house, we made all the electric system crash with a short circuit and the father of the guy who was hosting screaming all blasfemy against us for the damage
I saw my first K62 pc at a lanparty wooOOo. I loved how half of the lan peeps woukd be working on there pc and doing this exact thing...Dreamhack forever
That dude with the frizzy hair seems a nice guy,i liked the part where he was talking about changing his sound card to a Vortex 2 but they're pricey and hard to find,I actually have a Working Vortex 2 :D
Nothing against the Vortex 2, in fact I bought one last year, but for a PC built around the Voodoo5 it's too old IMO, the Audigy 2 fits it much better considering most games you'd play on a V5.
Man is love old hardware like this! Even tough my daily use computer can run most of these games fine i still have my Athlon XP 2500+ Build and my Pentium 3 500 mhz slot 1 computer and play on them or use my Pentium 4 laptop that runs a desktop pentium 4 version for when i go on a trip. They are still great for this and i will never get rid of them. Awesome video as always!
Good old times... I remember playing with friends (AoE2, Patrizier 2, Cultures,...) with actual computers... then we were not allowed to visit other people anymore due to a pandemy... so now we have to use vpn until we are free again
Yeah, I definitely should visit the Netherlands sometime! :D It's amazing how well I understand certain sentences in Dutch. Probably because my first language is German and English is my second one.
Really neat LAN party, and the computer museum is amazing. I loved your pentium2/voodoo2 build, and the cool guy with his modern/retro style ala Phil's computer lab. Felt bad for the fellow who broke his system while transpoting on bike! I would have loved to play quake with you all! Ahh, the memories. Kinda mnakes me wish I still had my old pentium and geforce 2 ;) Cheers!
Hi Victor, I'm a collector of old gameplays recorded on VHS & DVD from 1980's, 1990's and 2000's and Old Demos (Dem_files) from PC Games. And since that you have uploaded this video from a demo, I wondering if you still have some old stuffs and Demos. Thanks in advance for your answer, keep it up, and you just won a suscriber.
Commodore 64 Shirt guy looks familiar.... he's in one of the Retro PC Facebook groups isn't he? EDIT: Ahh! It is! Its Pascal! Man would've been awesome to be there, but, sadly, airfare from Canada to The Netherlands is a bit pricey.
I saw what you had in the racing game, "snow_texture", looks really nice, maybe you need to get your voodoo type card examined, (whisper) not that I'd advice it, please tell me about the heatsink condition of the voodoo card, :D. from a friendly gamer.
usually setting headlights to vertex instead of projected fixes that texture bug on Voodoo cards, it's the only headlight option that works for 3dfx cards iirc.
Should do Worms Armageddon, Need for speed III Hot Pursuit, Midtown madness 2, revolt are a few more games you should try in a lan. (Cops & robbers in midtown madness 2 with a few modded cars is great, just make sure you all have the same modded cars otherwise you might see another standard car that's faster or much heavier then the standard car you can pick yourself on your own game.)
6:05 can someone tell me the name of the case next to the keyboard, above the yellow toolbox? I've been given a windows 98 pc with it and i'm still looking for it's origin. I think it's a gigabyte prebuilt.
I want to set something up like this one day, albeit a little smaller, in my basement. Does anyone have any suggestions for desks that don't break the bank. Cheaper being better. I was wondering if old school computer lab desks can be acquired and used for such a thing.
I run quake on 486 too, little bit smaller window but kind of playable. I wish that where i live these things happened, back in the day i couldn't afford a lot of lan time.
I actually have a LAN party capable system of my own, it’s an athlon thunderbird 1 ghz, a Radeon 7200 DDR, 768mb of PC133 ram and a 60gb hard drive running Windows 98
In Germany we use "ciao", too, but to say "good bye" instead of the Italien meaning which is "hello" or "good day" as far as I know. I didn't know that it was used in the Netherlands, too, despite me being there often. I also never heard it in my Spanish lessons, but I quit those after half year so maybe I just gave up too early :-) "Cau" in Czech is to say hello or bye?
I got a 90s compaq deskpro 2000 with some games on it but at the moment it doesn’t have a graphics card. Only cirrus logic 1 mb video chip so no 3D games work really or like sim city 3000 you get glitches.
Cirrus Logic is very good for DOS games, but I don't know if Sim City 3000 is a DOS game & what it's system requirement are. It depends on the Deskpro's system specs what options you have to upgrade that machine.
You folks are too cool! Can I come live there and be your neighbor? Oklahoma and the US in general sucks! *Disclaimer: this is my opinion alone and I take responsibilty for it.
