The funny thing about 16:9 cropped 4:3 TV shows, it often the punchline of a joke is off-screen so you completely miss the joke, or something else important to the context of the scene is cropped out, this happened with Buffy & Simpsons in the awful 16:9 versions. Always opt for the full-frame 4:3 versions, that full 4:3 resolution has 45% more screen size versus 16:9 frame/aspect, 14:9 is much nicer than 16:9, much less dead frame area, everything is much better frames in 4:3, which is why IMAX cinemas and IMAX enhanced uses 4:3, if you want an example of a perfect mix of width and height, it's 3:2 or 16:10, the FW900 is a beautiful 16:10 monitor, which is perfect for FPS games, I prefer 3:2, which have even more vertical real estate, but I'll take either, see SMW3 on GBA vs SNES for 4:3 vs 3:2, 4:3 is my fave, but it does look nice and far nicer t han 16:9.
@Retro Tech: Hey Steve. Would it be possible to turn a PVM-20L4 into a PVM-20L5 by changing an IC or something? These models were produced at a similar timespan but the L4 was for the PAL territories and the L5 was for the NTSC territories.
I was waiting for that too, but nothing came up afaict, Steve has one waiting for him to refurb I believe, I've not seen a single FW900 for sale in the UK for over 12 months now, you would see 3-4 a year for sale beforehand, no LaCie Blue IV 22 monitors either, so grateful I got my brand-new LaCie IV 22 & retail boxed new old stock Sony E530 (white version of the G520 basically, same tube) before CRTs went hyper hyped up mode (thanks to videos from big RU-vidrs), I wasn't quick enough to get a FW900 when they were going for sub 500 $£E, that and the NEC XP37 Plus Xtra, which is a 37" CRT with PC monitor image quality, plus it can do up to 1280x1024 75Hz, which is so nice for a high TVL 37" size CRT, would be incredible for a Windows 98 gaming rig monitor, has to be the best big 4:3 CRT there is imo, along with the best (and only) 16:10 CRT monitor, the FW900, what a setup those two screens would make, mind you, I just scored a brand spanking new boxed Hitachi 25" presentation RGBS CRT monitor, which is beautiful and perfect for the MiSTer, has PVM style scanlines @ 240p, factory fresh phosphors are a sight to behold.
@@Wobble2007 very cool and best of luck to you on your CRT adventures. I was lucky to pick up the HP branded FW900 and I absolutely love it! I also have a couple 2070SB's currently on hand. I actually have a lead on a NEC XP37 when I go on vacation next month. Maybe I will be lucky enough to make a deal on it!
