Hello everyone and welcome back to A Very RETRO Christmas 2022!
This week's video is a Retro REMAKE of a Sears Christmas commercial from 1983! For my Christmas-themed Retro REMAKE, I wanted to do a commercial of something that brought those nostalgic and warm feelings of the holiday season. What better way to do that than a commercial for Sears.
When I think of Christmas shopping of years past, I can't help but think of Sears. Waiting for the Christmas catalog. The hustle and bustle of shopping centers and malls. All the music and all the people. I hope this offers a little bit of those missed feelings, especially this time of year.
My first ever Retro REMAKE was of a Sears commercial from 1984 which I did about a month before I started the RU-vid channel. It is on my TikTok, but it is not on my RU-vid. I have wanted to do a new Sears commercial remake that could be added to my RU-vid, so I thought Christmas was the perfect opportunity to do that.

Last month I went to our local Sears. Walked in the back door and made is aaaaallllll the way to the mail entrance without seeing a soul. This brand is going to be a memory soon.

Keep them coming! Another idea is employee training videos for Sears and other retail and restaurants! Love what you are doing! Merry Christmas!

That has been a big request. An employee training video like the Wendy's or Blockbuster one. The only reason I haven't is because of the setting. I used my greenscreen a lot for videos. That isn't the hard part. The hard part is finding a good, appropriate color photo of whatever setting to be able to use it as a background. Like this video for example. Color photos of the interior of a Sears during the 1980s was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find. That is one of the more difficult parts of doing retro videos is finding retro photos to use as backgrounds. Even with the power of the internet, they are so difficult to find.

It’s just so sad how many department stores have come and gone. Especially something like Sears - once America’s largest retailer (and I’m also thinking America’s largest employer).
