The Gameboy watch did this concept so much better. I paid $13 US for mine, and its functionality is basically exactly what you would expect for the price, but it's shaped like a tiny Gameboy, and plays the Super Mario Land theme as its alarm tone. That's the way you do a novelty watch. Cheap, cheerful, and charming.
You bring up a good point. They could have done so much with with a feature from Pac-Man on the watch. Pac-Man running across the screen eating a dot across the screen? Sound effects? A big waste.
You got me hooked, my wife is not that happy, she's like: "you really need this many watches?" so i just asked how many handbags she needs.... end of the conversation :)
I'd use this but honestly I have almost as many shoes as my girlfriend has. The only difference is hers are all fancy city shoes and a single pair of doc martens. Mine are all "hiking shoe this, motorcycle boot that, jogging shoe this, rubber boot that"... I'm thinking I need to give her a pair of wellingtons as a present some day, see how she gets on with those.
From one side, thanks God my wife loves to take care of my style as well as hers. And she like watches. But from other side this consensus often costs me more than the cost of her bags and shoes. The cheapest watch in her box is Maurice Lacroix with diamonds :) So sometimes it's cheaper to left wives with collecting of their bags :)
At least it doesn’t sound like a Timex! I used to think the ‘loud’ ticking was exaggerated but my watch kept me up one night recently, from the other side of the room…
My Timex lives in a box inside my wardrobe. It's either that or it has to leave the house it's so bloody loud! Looks nice though when I let it out for good behaviour.
I have this watch and i love it yes its overpriced but the amount of compliments i get is crazy plus it plays the theme song if you hold the top right button.
I’m not gonna lie Jody, I’ve almost pulled the trigger on this on probably a dozen times! Yes obviously the price was the issue as to why I hadn’t. I was just caught up in the nostalgic idea that I so wanted to go back in time! I’m ok. I’ve now resumed my Sunday arvo medication!🍷🍷🤪👍🏼
Having lived through Pac-man mania of the early 80s, I’d have to say that a cash-grab like this is pretty much exactly as you should expect. My memory fades after nearly 40 years, but I remember taking to school a Pac-man backpack with a Pac-man lunchbox, a Pac-man pencil case filled with, yeah Pac-man pencils. And while I wasn’t the one buying all this crap, I can pretty much guarantee there was a similar markup over unbranded replacements.
I caved in and purchased the black version and silver version directly from Timex last year...still sitting in the box ... more of a collectors purchase as I most likely will never wear them. Edit: not concerned about value with these watches...just childhood nostalgia and a warm cozy feeling of my time of innocence as a young lad playing this game with my pops.
Jody!!! If you press, in the time keeping mode, the start/stop button for 5 seconds the watch will sound the packman theme!!!! Please, try it and after that tell me.
I had an old T80 that I got for $35-40 about 7 years ago in gold and burgundy. One the buttons broke off and I finally looked for a replacement was absolutely stunned that timex is charging nearly double what I paid 7 years ago. I did end up getting the T80 in silver and gold/gray. The gold/gray has a nicer/heavier casing compared to the silver and my original. But, still not really worth the current price. It should really be in the $30-45 range to compete with the Casio A158 line. Thanks for the video. Andrew
Would buy if its 30-40 bucks. Just for a collection piece. I have a t80 i got on a clearance sale for 25$ a nice watch, but easily replaced by any casio. If im not mistaken, the alarm plays pacman theme on these, which makes it quite quirky to be used during game conventions.
What I can’t believe is, there is no video on Armitron watches and if they’re any good...maybe it’s for me to create? ALL 3 of my discontinued sub-$30 Armitrons are more capable than that Timex Pac-Man. Sold right next to Timex at my local Walmart, I think a video on them would be worth it even if it’s a roast like this as they’ve been around awhile too
I was lent this watch and felt the way you did, but at the end of the day my friend was so tickled pink about purchasing it. One of the most fun videos I did. You have to admit that alarm brings back some memories Jody.
I bought the black one for my son (37 year old). It's a fun, little, watch. He enjoys it. He does like his timex. Dundee boy! Bought direct from timex UK.
Jody, I must admit - roast coming from you is even more powerful, because you're a guy who is not a snob and who appreciates good watches no matter how much they cost.
I bought one a while back and fully agree with this roast. My display was even crooked. Actually just gave it away to a friend. The coolest part is that it plays the Pac-Man theme as the alarm and if you hold down the top right button, it also plays the Pac-Man theme. However it always made my ears ring so I guess it's not so cool after all lol
Jody, I totally agree with you, but you justo forget another of the exclusive characteristics of the watch: I think if you press one button you can hear the mithical music of the game.
I have a timex TW4B07700 expiration digital watch that I absolutely love even more then a gshock I have. It's the perfect middle of the road not quite as hefty (or as expensive) as a g, but tougher then an Ironman or non-gshock casio. I love that it's only 11mm thick and you can easily swap the straps out and have it look normal thanks to its traditional lugs. I have it on an elastic type nato strap and it's by far the most comfortable watch I've ever worn and it's tough too. You should look into them on Amazon Jody, they are only 35 USD.
I really like the PAC-MAN collab theme, and (to its credit), it fits with the T80's old-fashioned digital design, but it's quite a shame how high its price is - especially compared to the price tag on some of Casio's digital watches.
Oh dear poor Geoff !!!!! Always find it easy roasting a watch from a huge brand they wouldn’t care what we thought about! The conscience starts kicking in when it’s from a smaller brand!!!!!;) all the best!
Back in the 80s I had a pac-man watch with a tiny pac-man game on it which you'd play with a tiny joystick. Unfortunately it wasn't water resistant and got damaged. I would love to find one these days, but they seem to have been ultra rare. If somebody wants to make a pac-man watch, they should look at making something like that.
thank you. i was thinking of getting the space invaders version. my concern was with the bracelet (had the same issue with a retro casio). so definitely dropping this one. cheers !
Hi, I have had a Timex Expedition Shock for a year and sold it. I had to change the battery twice for the year of ownership. I purchased dw291, it's not your favourite but ten year battery. I already have two other casio's with ten year battery life, and actually it is 11 years life. I have video on the Timex, check it out if you have time, it is very nice G shock looking watch, but battery life was disappointing. Cheers.
Bought one. Took one look at it and it went right up on eBay. Have a Casio A168 now. Much better! And I’ll be elbows-on-the-table and waiting for a regular Sunday Roast! 🔥
Morning Jody, I love the idea of a Sunday Roasting so keep them coming, I'm waiting for a Casio F-91W to arrive, should have been here yesterday, but gat an email from Amazon saying it's a little late, I only paid £7 for it and by the sounds of it I got a better watch that this Timex, keep the Video's coming Love your channel, Ger in Ireland
I am a great admirer and lifelong fan of Timex. However their current retail prices are outrageously too expensive for what You are getting. Sad but true 😭Good honest review.
What have they done that is in any way different to how Rolex operate.?? Produce a product and then inflate its price by sticking a "gold crown" on it. Produce a watch and then inflate its price by sticking pacman graphics on it. It's just a different end of the market.
Had this one in my cart when it first came out as it had a decent introductory discount, but I never went through with it. Such a wasted opportunity, how cool would it be if an animated Pac-man was on the display chasing some ghosts? A little included game like the watches of the 80s would have been amazing too. Oh well.
I bought all three on deep discount here at the Bay in Canada and I'm glad I did. I LOVE them. They look tits. Nobody thought you were getting a Rolly. And some years from now they'll be collectable all together. If my kids realize their future value I'm okay with that;-) And I got them for $40 each, Cad.
It’s taken 2hrs to stop laughing enough to agree with you! What a pile of 💩 where’s my G Shock? Thank god! What a nightmare! Now I’ve got to run away from a bunch of prime coloured ghosts! 👻 oops 😬 that’d be the wife and kids!...
Thank you for featuring this watch Jody. Had this in my basket for a while and was going to feature it on my RU-vid channel but the price just didn’t look appealing for what you’re getting. Cheers 🍻
In itself, it's quite a nice retro watch. It's just the price that's unconscionable. Interesting that there's another design of these, with READY! in place of the 'INDIGLO' Currently on amazon.co.uk at £116.60, no thanks.
I did give one of these to my future son-in-law and he loved it. He’s not a “watch guy” yet, so I’ve been easing into it with stuff like this. They quickly went out of stock, so I figured it would be a good collectible one day. Then they came back in stock. They just seem to make more every time they sell out. So much for that. The alarm tone is fun, though.
I totally take your point but we don't do this to Rolex say. There is absolutely no difference in materials and quality between a Tudor and a Rolex but the price is at least double for the Rolex. It's not really why we buy watches. I've got a sensationally heavy Marathon that cost 1.4k but it doesn't have any features the G-shock doesn't provide for $70.
I’ve been kinda hankering for a new purely digital watch. Now I know it won’t be one of these. I have a Casio CA-53, but everything else I own has an analog time display. I do love ani-digis though. Breitling Exospace is probably as close to a “Swiss Luxury Grail” piece as I will ever want. An MTM Air Strike II would be cool too.
I think it has a pacman sound for the alarm as well, but could be mistaken here. I bought the full stainless version of the T80, which is totally worth it. Just too bad they chose to use plastic on a special edition like this
I keep it on my bookcase and since working from home has become the thing to do, set the alarm to 5PM. Its a great way to remind me to wrap up the work day. An expensive alarm clock that can probably be done better via a phone app, lol..but i still enjoy it. Otherwise, ya...its kind of rubbish.
First I thought: Well, people pay silly money for things all the time. Then I thought: Well, it's a style statement isn't, and not a bad one either - like I'd get more positive comments with this than any Rolex from my social circles. Then I thought: Damn that 40 dollar G-Shock is just AMAZING for the cash. Phwoar. As is the solar version.
If there was a reason to pick the T80 over the Casio, I guess it would be that 18mm lug width if you were someone who really felt they wanted to stick their digital watch on any straps. Then again I'd rather adapt an F-91W or similar.
Love the idea of the segment, but think you’re wrong in this case. Yes, the watch is over-priced for the money, but so is the Submariner. I have one of these Pac Mans and when I wear it, it makes me smile more than any other watch I own. It’s silly but charming.
"Cash Grab" was my first thought when I saw this watch on Amazon... "Not worth it," was my second thought. I actually own the regular version of this Timex-- came into it when I bought a bag of "they only need batteries" watches for $5usd at the flea market. Once it had a new battery, I tried hard to like it. But in the end, I discarded the Timex for my trusty F-91W...
I know you already have this watch but I bought a Casio DBC32(the stainless steel one) databank this week. If you want retro it is much better value than than this Timex. Also, I don’t know if you are a Marvel Universe fan but I’m sure Vision had this Casio on his wrist in the penultimate episode of Wandavision.
You'll have to do a bit of savaging on the Timex weekender Fairfield, which in a moment of mental malfunction I bought.Timex have quite a few ripoff projects in their portfolio...................
They missed a branding opportunity for the rainbow version, perhaps they should have called it the Spectrum ;) In fact I think that Timex sold Sinclair Spectrums under its name in the USA.
I saw this so many times, but it always seemed like an budget Casio level of quality, but with an eye watering price tag. Don't get me wrong, I love my F-91W, but not for $89! I like Timex, but sod off with that pricing!
If they reward wanted to do Pac Man, the better way would be to use the F91W as a base, and have a colourway for each ghost and one for Pac Man with matching colours on the watch and band with some graphics. Charge like 20 bucks and people would be falling all over themselves I think (relatively). This was just lazy and that bracelet looks painful.
Good thing I didn't buy the silver AND black one 👀 Jody has me realzing that on my death bed, I will recall those purchases amongst my biggest regrets 😂
A bit off topic but finally we have arrived, one week left until lights out in Bahrain, can't wait! Thanks Jody for pumping out some entertainment during the winter break!
Simon, I'm fit to burst with excitement. Even put a few dollars on Max for the first race. Lights out at 0200 Monday morning for me, but I'll be awake and excited.

I just bought brand new Gold one from an Timex AD for $27 USD (in July 2021)... I will feel less ashamed of myself knowing I only overpaid by about $8...
I have one of these in black and frankly just waiting for it to be a gift to a geeky relative who will appreciate it. I wish it had some LED animation and some music.
