Unfortunately, I think the biggest issue with Duke Nukem Forever was something he pointed out later; the world has changed. People just don't get Duke's humor anymore. Half of the reviews I read mentioned how offensive it was. Seriously? It's a Duke Nukem game, what did you expect?
@@shadowflash705 People have always found something offensive, the difference these days is that people (mostly on twiiter) are told that feeling offended is somehow an offence itself! Instead of growing a set of "balls of steel" growing up.
I dunno. I know a LOT of people that are SICK of PC. We would absolutely love another Duke game. Iron Fury was fine. A nice blast from the past not bad at all.
I've got Jon on Facebook, and he actually wished me happy birthday multiple times over the years. Someone as 'big' as him. I was extremely grateful since I grew up with Duke and is a big part of my childhood. Really, really nice guy!
Loved this episode! Jon St. John you're a legend and thank you for Duke Nukem your voice made that character exactly what it needed to be. Perfection all round. A BIG thank you to you Neil.
What a blast of nostalgia this was to hear! 👊💪😎👍 In 96 I was able to rig up 4 pcs using a Coax 10Mbit network at home, all the neighborhood kids would line up to play Duke3D Death Match with me and my brother. It was a glorious time!
duke nuken should never be politicised, nor should he ever softened for the pc culture. Even in the 1990s his entire thing was being that action character too bombastic, both good and bad; to be real. not even saying it as a personal preference, just know it would finish him more than this hiatus. XD
Jon never fails to deliver, he's an awesome guy. Oh, and I too love DNF! Sure it's got flaws, like every game has. But it's a lot of fun to play. I am so happy it actually got released. And I would love more Duke in the future for sure. Everything is so damn serious nowadays. It's time Duke came back and gave us a kick in the butt.
Aw man, I loved Tempest growing up. Bit before my time, as I was born a few years prior to the release of the SNES, but something about those vector graphics just did it for me. Beyond that, the quality library of the Amiga 500 and later on the 2000 was where I spent a majority of my time. I even got Megaball 4 for Christmas the same year as Sonic & Knuckles as I recall, maybe the next year if I've got the release date a bit muddled. Edit: This is wonderful, thank you. Edit edit: I have not stopped smiling this whole time. Edit edit edit: Lmao Deuce. I'm fuckin done
Wow I didn't know "Duke" was a radio DJ at one time... Comes full circle for me since I'm a radio DJ myself and I pull out a Duke impersonation all the time on my morning show.
His Captain Picard sounds very much like Patrick Stewart, just a bit more jovial. I really enjoyed the interview. Didn't expect him to be such a fun guy.
That was a fantastic episode! Somehow Jon St. John and LGR do seem to have some speech commonalities, hahaha. Did we end up getting the rating for Clint's Duke impression? :-)
This was a great video and awesome interview with the Duke!!! I also have to say.. I loves the Duke nukem games no matter what period it was released... even Forever was a great game and hilarious in the dialogue...
The Duke 3D more monotone voice has a lot more character than the DNF-style voice, IMO. The DNF-style voice sounds like a mostly normal voice, but with a tryhard effort and it ends up sounding a bit dorky, which is not what Duke is supposed to be. He's supposed to BE the man, and not acting like he's pretending he is the man. Whereas the Duke 3D style voice sounds cool-headed, badass, totally cocky... all of that is character, and that Duke sounds that way within the context of him kicking ass and blowing up aliens all around the place is humourous gives him and the game even more character.
We had Jon up in our hotel room after a PAX convention, idk what year it was. I remember someone showed him a anime character and asked what Duke would say.
I always wondered how he pronounced his surname. "St John" is usually not pronounced as "saint John", but as "sinjin", or something approximating that. Much like St. Clair is actually pronounced Sinclair, though plenty of Sinclairs modified the spelling of their name to be more phonetic.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. A good friend of mine has "St. John" as his middle name - pronounced "Sinjun". Now I always wonder when I see it written!
Well, Jon St. John is eternalized in the game called: Pixel Starships, there is a character you can have in your ship called exactly like him and kinda looks like him. Eternal life untill the game expires, it's a PVP online game, you know how long they generally last.
Duke Nukem's voice is always on my mind, and i'm near 43 year old now, i though it was Jon St. John on "honest trailers" but turn out it's another Jon, Jon Bailey, and i dunno if he got inspired on St. John. (shit happens)
"Nobody steals our chicks and live. Guess again, freakshow. Duke's coming back to town, and the last thing that's gonna go through your mind before you die... is my size 13 boot!. " *Edit : actual quote, not how I remembered it.
The Bud Light Party ads were extremely unpopular leading to a drop in sales. As a result the ad campaign was pulled and the VP of marketing was fired along with the ad agency.
