Today we will be looking at the PSPP 5 A1 upgrade set sold by Parkside to retrofit pilot arc to both PPKS 40 and PPS 40 plasma cutters. Pilot arc allows the formation of the cutting arc inside the torch head, without the need to be in close proximity of the ground clamped workpiece. This means you can now cut wire, expanded metal sheet, dirty, rusted or even painted metal. This makes the cutting process much easier when working with marginal materials that have difficulty sustaining a good cutting arc. At a price of €29.99 the kit is very well priced, as similar torches sell for over €50. The compatible tips are sold by Lidl as PPDES 18 A1, or can be found as generics under the name AG60, SG-55, Cut 40 or Cut 50. Aperture size is 1.2mm. In my limited testing, the upgraded torch performed admirably, and allowed easy cutting of hollow metal materials.
