To explain a few things about this system: 1) some carts have shorter cartridge edge fingers, and a strip of PCB masking along the edge. This will block it from working on clones with lower profile 72 pin cart slots. 2) This is using NOAC (Nintendo On A Chip) technology. Meaning, it's cloned authentic hardware that was condensed down to a single chip/gloptop package. This results in weaker compatibility, due to how much of the hardware was stripped away to just "make it work" 3) your unit in particular seems to have reverse duty cycles. So the music isn't accurate, due to the audio cycles being completely flipped. Their are ones with correct duty cycles, but the DPCM channels are mirrored. 4) In addition, newer correct duty clones seem to have corrupted audio the longer they are left running. So on cold boot, it may sound fine. But let it warm up, and the DPCM channels become more and more broken. The Retron1 AV and OldSkool Classiq N suffer from this. Unknown for other modern NOACs with correct duty cycles.

Cool console! Funny that it was only $10's more than just buying the controller by itself. I don't get the bright color scheme. Hyperkin also did that with some of the Retron5's. I miss the days when you could buy NES carts for $2. Strange that SMB/DH doesn't work.

Oh wow this is the same one I recently got! After watching your video, I went to test my Super Mario Bros Duck Hunt and it worked, even tested the lightgun and it was fine. So I started investigating a little more... and I remembered when I first got my AVS from RetroUSB many years ago, I had a Super Mario 2 cart that would work fine on regular NES consoles, but did NOT work at all on the AVS. When I tested this same Super Mario 2 cart on the Retron 1 AV, sure enough - it wont work at all! From what I understand, certain old NES carts have shorter contacts on the back set of pins, if you look on the back side of the PCB. These shorter contacts will prevent the Retron 1 AV and older versions of the AVS from playing these games! 😕 There is not much of a workaround besides trying a game genie, which bends the pins inside the console... you can also try to remove the PCB from the cart and see if it might work that way.

Yikes. Thanks for the heads up!

I remember reading the NES Game Genie PCB is also thicker, allowing fuller contact with the cartridge slot, though it was in the context of how that can probably wear down the slot faster. I haven't followed up on that inquiry, though I would like to know if using the Game Genie really does wear down a cartridge slot either when used with a toaster or top-loader.

I got tired of putting the game in and having to adjust it over and over in the original NES for it to work. I put new pins in my NES but it still doesn't work well. Buying this today.

Got it for $25 on Europe. Seems to play both PAL and NTSC original cartridges and works with an Everdrive. So if you see it as a "Good quality controller + $10 crappy famiclone", it's quite a deal.

It's great that a product like this is still viable at such a cheap price in the age of HDMI.

I think your model is a 14 incher. It's impossible to find flat crts on that size on my local market, that's definitely an uncommon format. (Most flat monitors were 17' while tvs started at 21') @@TigerClawTV
