Be careful about eliminating the spacers on the knuckle. Creating and angle from the rack to the knuckle will cause bumpsteer. I suggest lowering the rack, or creating a gusset for the extension piece. Good luck! Can't wait to see it rip
If the spacers are made of the same steel, welding them together and into the knuckle would fix the issue. Then add a small triangle gusset as a reinforcement should make it foolproof. No matter the lenght of the bolt and tierod angle stays happy.
I agree 100% .I think I would box out the triangle piece that bent.i probably would use 1-1/2 piece wide flat plate welded too the bottom triangle then weld a copy of the triangle piece that is already on the car to weld it to the top of the pieces of flat stock . that would be super strong
Hey Phong, the reason they spaced the arm like that was to try to stop bump steer. The best way to fix it would be to bend the flat steering arm plates up to meet the rack ends, then weld a stiffener along the arm to stop it flexing, That way you will remove the flex and prevent the chance of building bump steer into it, which will cause the same problem. Cheers bro, I'm loving the videos you put out. Keep up the good work!
this comment needs to be seen!!! having the tie rods angle match the control arms is vital for reducing bump steer. a new plate made to match the current location of the tie rod is the best, and SAFEST way to go about fixing it without relocating the steering rack in my eyes. ive loved every step of the build, but that made me scream at my pc because of how scared of what other issues it may cause. keep up the good work tho, absolutely love seeing this car come to life!!
This 100% was going to say the same thing. The plate needs to come up to meet the rack end. Plus getting a plate with a bend in it will strengthen it similar to how a dimple die works in sheet metal.
Another way to correct bump steer, but remove the spacers, would be to lower the rack in the chassis as much as possible....this way the tie rods would be more parallel with the control arms as the are now.....I agree that those upright plates need reinforced as well.....adding a simple piece of flat stock perpendicular to the current plates (welded on) would significantly increase there rigidity.
Totally agree with this comment. The control arms and the tie rod needs to be parallel. Best way to verify bump steer is to remove the coil spring and cycle the suspension up and down at its normal ride height plus and minus it’s normal wheel travel. See if this movement induces any steering angle, it should be very close to ZERO steering change.
@@garyhowe88 lol ok but i am still right It's basic steering geometry If you ever dropped a car you will know They sell block to raise the rack to restore the correct tie rod position www.evasivemotorsports.com/store/product/evs-tuning-front-anti-bumpsteer-kit-honda-s2000-2000-2009/ Or in phong case this style www.summitracing.com/parts/qa1-bax105?seid=srese1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmcWDBhCOARIsALgJ2Qc_cZIe27-CUsP5MmYbYDGeWC2FLTRpnG3G1xnw9hwU9gCZI15VopkaAivEEALw_wcB
Came to say the same. this is an issue people with high power classic minis have to deal with, supporting the arm in double sheer is the way to go. 100%
Phong you are such an awesome soul brotha. Smart, jack of all trades and down to earth makes you an awesome friend to have!! Good luck on getting Phoenix to get straight down the track 👌💯 Much love brothaa 👌👌🤘🤘🤘💯💯 EDIT: Forgot to add how much you inspire me to push forward in my goals 👌 and I'm sure you inspire many others
Glad you and the Phoenix made it home safely. That car has crazy power coming off the line. I would double gusset that arm so it cant twist. Put a bracket to the top of the bolt to the arm to support both ends of the bolt.
Love the uploads. You should reinforce the steering arms. Also make sure the steering links stay as inline with the rack as possible. You want as little bump steer as possible through the suspension range of movement. Special hyme joint washers & misalignment spacers are very useful too. Best of luck. Hope to see you on track soon. 👍
Thanks Phong for taking us on that 4k journey great content the whole way. We are glad you made it home safe. The van is an awesome unit. Gotta love her !! Can't wait to see the Phoenix make a hit at the track after you get the front end worked out. Be safe out there... from East Texas✌
Take Phoenix over to shawn your going to cause bump steer problems with that tirod so low shawn can make a arm off the spindle to keep everything tight god bless and keep up the awesome videos
Another Great Journey with Phong!! Thanks for the ride along and I am optimistic that you found the problem with Phoenix. I can't wait for you to get a clean run so we can see what she can really do!
At 5:13 you passed exit 127 on I24 in TN. I used to live 15 minutes west of that exit. Glad you found the problem. Can't wait to see it rip after it's fixed.
Thanks for taking us on this journey with you phong really enjoyed watching you on this journey an the people you have surrounding you are more like family than friends keep pushing hard phong an chase those dreams
Phong a quiet humble man who is full of knowledge that he shares with every one. What a great friend to all. Hope you get phoenix fixed and achieve your dreams. It's great looking car that when you sort those few issues will make everyone proud. You have made something rise from the ashes and ride again. All credit to you Phong our Internet friend. Thanks all the way from Australia.
Great job on the videos, glad to see you made it home safe and sound. Love your channel and you being you. Never change because I believe that you are the real deal, so smart and inovative not to mention you're so humble and kind. The World needs more people like you. I definitely hope to meet you in person some day. I live in Florida and only a couple of hours or so from the Freedom Factory. Love you brother, and keep giving us some great content. Till tomorrow. 😎👍💯❤️

Gotta respect phong immensely, he isnt dependent on anyone for any reason and hes always giving and willing to help anyone. Between phong, brent, Shawn, jamie and tom there is nothing they cant do together and they would bust their asses to help each other
Very cool!!!! Glad you made back safe!!! You’ll be makin bad jam blasting down the track straight as an arrow before you know it!!! Can’t wait to see Phoenix fly!!!
I'm glad I'm helping such awesome people chase their dreams. there are so many people wanting to see the phoenix fly. soon my dude. if you guys ever do an Australian trip that would be awesome
Love all the excitement of the trip and your family lots of blessings hope you have a great success with the most powerful all motor skills you are my inspiration for my car it's a Toyota but I can make it Run faster than what it is I'm having the fun of my life with your friends and helping tips to better mechanical engineering I feel so blessed to have found your page on RU-vid hope to see a video of the Phoenix.thankyou for doing that special person in the world to be so humble.
Phong is one of the most down to earth people ever. Looking forward to the day I can shake this mans hand and let him know he’s the GOAT! The Phoenix will rise and decimate all!
i love your attitude you seem like a good guy and i love seeing that you are always ready to help. keep up the good work and I can't wait to learn more from your world!!!!
Glad your home safe. If you remove the spacers to reduce the angle won't you induce unwanted bump steer on suspension compression and rebound and create a similar situation on take off but through bad geometry rather than mechanical movement. I so love this little car. Love from the U.K.
You went a long way my friend that whole trip seeing your friends trying to drag race that car I'm going to start calling you MacGyver you can fix anything or I'll call you Superman be safe Superman
I’ve been watching from the start of this channel and that was an Awesome series of videos brother !!!!!! Love all your cars !!! Keep making them faster 😁😁
Everyone is pulling for you to make a great pass Phong. You're a great man. I hope you resolve the issues and the Phoenix again rises from the ashes to fly high.
