Blackpool Balloon car 710, the tram used by Coronation Street to bring about the demise of character Alan Bradley has been secured for the Tramtown exhibition and was today returned to Blackpool having left 10 years ago. The tram will now be cosmetically restored to 1980s condition and be on display to tell the story of Blackpool trams and there link to Coronation Street.

Im not from Blackpool im from a place 80 mile south from Blackpool called Stoke-on-Trent, im pleased to see this old tram back home where it should be. Poor thing looks as though its had alot of neglect, a bit like my old city. Wishing the tram well 🙂
@StevenHughestransportvideos
I know Stoke well, my father was from there. The tram had a promising future initially and was intended to be part of a museum in Fleetwood. Sadly the museum didn't come to fruition and so 710 has languished outside for the last 10 years. Hopefully now it's back in Rigby Roads car it will have a promising future again.

@@StevenHughestransportvideos I really hope they can put life back into it and make it look great again. I find it heart breaking when i see these old trams in such a terrible state.
@StevenHughestransportvideos
@@hobouk3871 it will certainly get a cosmetic restoration. I don't think it will ever run again, but it will be housed in the new purpose built tram museum which is being converted at Rigby Road.

Very true, although this one is unlikely to run again it will form an important part of the new museum exhibition in years to come

It only came from Fleetwood dock's didn't it. Shame they we're just lying there outside on the dock's i used to pass them and wonder why they were there.
@StevenHughestransportvideos
Yes Indeed. The intention was they would be part of a new attraction in Fleetwood but alas the venture never came to anything and the trams deteriorated outside for 10 years. Some are still there.

I was just thinking now 710 is back at rigby road , and 715 has been withdrawn, needing major chassis and frame work. Would it be possible to use the bogies and components from 715 and fit them to 710 and maybe get it into running condition again.
@StevenHughestransportvideos
@StevenHughestransportvideos 5 месяцев назад
Unfortunately not, 715 would probably be the easier restoration job. 710 almost certainly won't run again. Also 715 belongs to the fylde transport trust while 710 belongs to Blackpool Transport. 715 will be in the queue behind other ftt Trams like 634/143 etc.

What a lovely site but are they restoring it back to how it was alm those years ago 👍
@StevenHughestransportvideos
Yes it's being cosmetically restored to 1980s green and cream as it was in Coronation Street. I will try and record progress but I don't know how fast this progress will be. At least she's safe now though

Not as easy has you would think is it? I wonder, how do they get trams to Crich in Derbyshire?
@StevenHughestransportvideos
I've seen it done a couple times now. Some trams move easier than others this one has obviously got a little rusty and stuff so was a little more difficult. They have a specific route into crich, unloading is usually fairly straight forward, especially for trams that are operational.
@outfoxthefox
@outfoxthefox Год назад
@@StevenHughestransportvideos I have looked for but failed as yet to find a video of delivery to Crich. I bet they don't drive the way I go.
@StevenHughestransportvideos
@@outfoxthefox they are usually timed to be delivered on closed days. They have to be unloaded in the public area and it's an issue doing it when they are open generally. I have seen a video before but it is rare to see. They have to come in from the Derby side so it's quite a trek from Blackpool

Where had it been

It's been in store in Fleetwood Docks for 10 years. It was going to be used for a museum there but the museum didn't get off the ground sadly

@StevenHughestransportvideos
No, she will only be cosmetically restored and will form part of a display around the coronation Street theme.
@Northerner_Transport_Hub
@Northerner_Transport_Hub Год назад
@Steven Hughes big waste if I'm honest. A tramway somewhere could probably use it to operate.
@StevenHughestransportvideos
@@Northerner_Transport_Hub it's just a shell. The tram was offered to every museum but no one want it. It was either this or the local scrap yard. Most museums have an example which is more operationally possible

@@StevenHughestransportvideos fair enough but it is a big shame
@StevenHughestransportvideos
@@Northerner_Transport_Hub it is, but it's better than scrap, and I guess never say never. If the money and parts are available it could run again one day.
