Cenote Nariz is one of my favorites in the Riviera Maya, in Quintana Roo, Mexico. If you've been following our channel for a while, you may remember seeing footage of a DPV dive in this cenote. This video here was taken in January 2024.
It's true that you can cover more ground with a DPV, which makes it an excellent tool. It's also true that DPV diving is simply fun, no matter whether you use it on a reef, in a cave or to get to a shipwreck from the shore.
Still, moving at any DPV speed gives you less time to admire the things around you, and Nariz has some outstanding decorations. So, this video was taken on a mixed Kiss Sidewinder and twinset dive done at normal swimming speed.
Is it difficult to combine open circuit and closed circuit divers? Yes and no. Depending on the gases both divers choose, the dive plan and a few otehr factors, one will limit the other. If you're not a CCR diver, then just think about it as two divers with different SAC rates diving together. One limits the other. As long as both are happy with those limits, you can work on forming a mixed team.
Understanding the other diver's configuration is just as important. CCR divers have a responsibility for their OC teammates here, when it comes to explaining the basics of the CCR and how the team can deal with emergencies.
If you'd like to know more about mixed team diving, check out this blog: darkhorizondiv... . For this cave dive, it helped that Marc is also a CCR diver, just didn't have his rebreather with him on this trip.
And, yes, you can dive twinsets / doubles in Mexican caves.
If you’d like to know more about becoming a cave diver or discovering the open water areas of cenotes without full cave diving qualifications, get in touch. We’re more than happy to help you arrange a trip to Mexico and recommend instructors or help you set up cave fun dives.
If you'd like to know more about becoming a Kiss Sidewinder diver, check out kisssidewinder.pro for information on courses and more.

Hi, I don't know. This video was taken in January 2024. I'm just a bit behind on editing. It's called 'Return to Cenote Nariz' because I posted a video of a DPV dive there a few weeks earlier. Sorry for the confusion!

@@darkhorizondiving That's ok. There was a fatal accident in the beginning of february and it was closed during my stay in Mexico.

@@analogbrother I knew about the accident. It happened just a few days after I last dived there. Hopefully heading back to Mexico this winter.
