Smokin band. Saw them live in Vancouver at the Queen Liz Theater. Musicians galore who all left with their tails between their legs and rightfully so.. Fantastic show by Chick, Al, Stanley and Lenny White
I too was at that concert and fully agree with what you said. I really liked how the band treated the audience like one big family gathering together for a night and fun and music !
CAN YOU SAY BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!! I SEE NOTHING BUT A JAM THAT WILL LEAVE IT'S MARK BETWEEN US AND ARE CHILDREN. JAZZ IS MY REALM THE TIME WHEN YOU GET LOST IN A PLACE OF EUPHORIA LEDGEND. YOU CAN GO NO MORE CLOSE TO GOD !!!!!!!!!!
I bet you could not play as good as they do on a good night every night. Alot of energy and technical arrangements every night. you are sure to have a slow one every now and then but when I saw them , one night was good and another night was great. Surprise musician are human too even though this stuff seems to be above human
Yes precisely. There is amazing rhythm to it to but a Monkesque feel to it too. A mix flavor and finesse. A bit of spice and samba if you will. A bit of razzle dazzle.
Some of these comments blow me away. I counted at least 3 times when they were "in the pocket." To say they played uninspired, flat, or ANY moniker thereof is simply a temporal perspective, that is, in the eye of the beholder. To me, they rocked this the hell out! Sometimes I wonder if the people who critique the most have done the least. :(
I think reading, many comments about this being a flat performance. maybe they toned it down for the audience making it more "jazzy" then the original rendition. also, where's Al's Les Paul?
I love RF and I love them individually as well but here its like they dont want to play together or whats wrong???? bc i know that they are a million if not billion times better then this
this is not a very good performance. The one on the 'Returns' live record blows this one (and the 70s renditions) out of the water. Check it out if you haven't already .
having just looked at the 1976 live footage of this number, this is pretty flat in comparison, I just don't get the impression these guys are feeling this music any more.
@Wallace Simps0n agreed not disputing his greatness , i studied with Stanley back in the 70,s just around the time Light as a feature was released ,just not a big fan of those Alembic basses
It's not going to go over well but I feel like Di Meola is here for name recognition only . He seemed a little clumsy starting out and his phrasing seems more ''guitarist '' than '' musician '' . In this band he is truly the weakest link .
