The second and final instalment filmed from the Mt Manganese Abandoned mine site in Central Queensland, Australia. This mine boasted a deep & high grade deposit perched on the side of the mountain overlooking the scenic coastline. First worked in 1895 and worked heavily until 1916. The original miners raised 21,785 tonnes of Magnese Oxide (Mn02) The grade in the central stopes was up to 75% Mn02. The remaining minable ore body is said to still be in excess of 250,000 tonnes
Come with us on a wild ride down the East shaft to the lowest available stopes and get a glimpse of what is still accessible. There is a northern shaft that is still open that you can see in our previous episode. After a second assessment this north shaft is too dangerous to climb.
Ebenezer is an experienced SRT climber with confined spaces training. QAM explores with specific & calibrated equipment. We do not recommend entering abandoned mine workings without land owners permission, the required equipment and a thorough safety plan to execute on if something goes wrong underground.
Stay out & stay alive.
