After three years of Pandemic, Peter McLeod and his team of rods finally had the chance to return to the hallowed waters of Providence Atoll in the Seychelles. In this series “Return To Providence”, Peter takes you with him across the flats, channels, lagoons and surf lines of this phenomenal fishery with his group as they hunt for giant trevally and many other species. Rather than a highlight reel, this series will give you a day by day account of what the experience is really like. Peter explains why the fishing is conducted in the way it is, along with offering tips and tricks on how to go about tackling these situations. You will share the highs and lows of battles lost and won.
In Episode 5 Peter fishes Pete and Jack with Tim as their guide. With the big spring tides in full effect Tim takes the decision to shot over the interior of the atoll to fish the East side of Providence. the fats of the East side are the least explored so you are never quite sure what's going to happen and this was no exception.

I would think the needle fish thinks YOU are the scurge of the sea? I notice non of you use tackle you have had for years? Even your clothing is new. As anglers don't you think you should be using the same gear till it cannot be used anymore?

Lee, he may be sponsored by some of the company's that make his gear. If so, they require that their products be shown in the best possible condition. You and I are avid fishermen and we know that most of the new crop of Shallow Flat or "Back Country" Saltwater Fishing Gear is top notch and therefore will last a number of seasons IF well cared for.

Hi Lee, thanks for the comment and Warren is right, I am Pro Staff for a number of brands so I do use new kit, but am also often involved in the development of that kit so it needs testing. That’s not to say everything is new, I think my tights and shorts are pushing 10 years old now, boots I do have to replace every couple of seasons as they get destroyed by coral, my gravel guards are also some 8 years old, and after lock down I needed new shirts….. as I could not fit into my old ones!

@@AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing Appreciate the reply I know you're a busy man. I'm just thinking how do we slow down this massive machine that is making more and more " stuff "? We seem to be destroying the very thing we care about, the natural world, because we just keep increasing the manufacture of.....everything. I'm certain you guys are involved in many ways to help protect the places you fish, as are the good companies that put an awful lot back into environmental projects. It's just a scary thought, all this stuff, how long can it continue?

@@leerichy6489 I really don’t know the answer to that one.. wish I did.. Prime example, just went to buy some replacement razor blades and it cost me less to buy a whole new razor with blades.. how does that work? Planned obsolescence is pretty much what all manufacturing business models are built on these days. I would imagine (this is conjecture only as I have no actual experience in manufacturing a product) that when you spend a chunk of money on R&D on a product with the latest and greatest materials there has to be a return on that. If you decide to build the best product you can to last 30 years, it will probably still be a good product in 30 years’ time. However, you only sell one to your client, so you are almost putting yourself out of business by your own striving for perfection. New technology comes along, your competitor uses it and suddenly your 30-year sales model goes out the window and your product dies in two. I can see why it’s happened, but it is a strain on resources, as we are certainly finding out now with costs of materials and production sky rocketing across every industry.
