Excellently performed. I love listening to Bloch stories, he incorporates an allegorical overlay to real world shenanigans. The Mandarin is another highly recommended story by Bloch for the audiences. Highly recommended.
HorrorBabble's stuff is absolutely, positively professional level in every possible way; quality of performance, recording quality, mastering-everything.
I can still hear, in memory, those coolly spoken words; and I can still remember my remonstrances. I seemed desperately anxious to accompany my friend into those sepulchral depths, yet he proved inflexibly obdurate. Keep up the good work fella and stay safe.
I was born too late to work for Monogram or PRC studios, so now I haunt YT, providing up to date Grade B-C-D content! Cheers Warren, too tireless to be really dead!
Oh always such great timing! Perfect for relaxing to after a rough day at work. Love the channel, the stories and tales, the whole package deal. The pregnant wife loves listen to such a fine voice late in the evenings, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't also enchanted with the narrators voice.
unnerving, the story was so well crafted. i found myself thinking it was a real report - Johler stood out so real. you’re reading was perfectly chilling. thanks much, Ian 🌷🙀😬😑
Great story and narration. I always enjoy reading Bloch and listening to your renditions of his stories. This story is amazing, quite creepy, filled with terror and horror, and is capped off by a ghost story! I never read this one and thsnk you for sharing it with us.
Sir Ian, there is great story that dates back to the 60s and I can't remember the title. I think its Bloch's. It concerns a cult to the brood of Einhort, a mad woman who was married to the missing man and sees his face coming over the horizon instead of the Sun, bizarre worship by boy worshippers,...its great. Only your voice could truly do it justice. With your encyclopedic knowledge of Mythos and para-Mythos literature....do you know it?
Chrisropher Lee played the part of the murdered man in this story on screen, except that it was a bit less graphic, as i recall. But instead of emerging from a crypt, he appeared in the door way of a mansion or castle. That's how i remember ir, any way.
Downloaded some Bloch and Lovecraft ebooks from Amazon (yep, free) and I’m hooked. But I do enjoy listening to Ian’s readings. Especially when I can’t sleep. Oddly soothing. I will listen to Ian, ESOTERICA, or some semi random history or conspiracy theory channel and somehow get lulled to sleep.
Read this when I was about 11,and the description of Jorla leaving the grave scared me silly.Havent read it since,so great to come across it again. One of the things that turned me on to horror.
Another great tale. To this day I love to walk in a cemetery alone at night and imagine I can hear movement in the ground, just to freak myself out. Delicious fear.
When you said remastered, you weren't kidding. Terrific audio quality. I sure would like to zoom chat with that engineer for an hour. Great job (person who did that). Stuff is getting confusing.
Have you seen the Alfred Hitchcock Hour called "Sign of Satan" starring Christopher Lee. It is based on this story. It has a very high creep factor. Love that scary opening of the AH Hour. Thanks for the Bloch. I do so hate to repeat myself ........ GREAT READING Really creepy tale. Lee plays the creepy actor watch it if you can you'll love it.
Those are excellent episodes. Does it seem to you like he had some sci-fi/horror episodes in the later seasons? I wonder if it was because the Twilight Zone was so popular.
If u can’t laugh at life, how are you supposed to hiss at death? 💀….. Sir Hiss. Heir to the throne. I like the “Seventh Sign” and the 70’s “Nosferatu!” Creepy and old do go so well together.
I like the Voice Actor's American Accent. Then, he's trying for California. Then he's got to date it to...what the 40's or something. He's got stones. I like him. The Rights' Holder had to keep his mouth shut too. So kudos to that person. By keeping silent, it's consent to the voice actor to play, to act, to make brave choices. It's a risk. This sometimes works out great and sometimes horribly. Most often both within the same performance. I have to say, I have a ton of respect and admiration for both on this project.
I love these tales your narrating style is superb, however there's one thing that plays on my mind, its a mystery that I suspect I'm not alone in wanting the answer to and to which you would seem ideally placed to provide the solution .Its of course possible that you've been asked before but if so I haven't been able to find it . So sitting on the edge of my sofa and with fingers crossed here goes. Who the heck is/was Warren?.
Just cannot get enough! Thank you both for all the work you tirelessly do to put out such great content! Hope the tooth is healing well and can’t wait for the new goodies on the way! 🖤
I don't know what people see in HP Lovecraft. He uses that many descriptors you can barely be buggered making it to the end of a sentence, if you do you'll be lucky to remember what the it was even describing.. Robert Bloch is so much better.
Are we sure the actor's name, being a central European (Austrian) surname starting with J, is not pronounced "yorla"? I love your chan, btw, please pardon the nit-pick.
I have to say Ian, you have an uncanny American accent. It's one part Terry Lennox from The Long Goodbye by Chandler. And 200 parts Lovecraft's actual voice. 🍺 Cheers.
