For anyone watching this: I would *HIGHLY* recommend rebinding your Dash from the Circle button to R1. Not only is it a button that isn't used, it also allows you to retain camera movement while you are dashing. I noticed an immediate improvement in the success of my runs and my overall confidence with engaging enemies when I made this change.

Thank you for making these guides I know it is hard work, but finding good quality guides are rough. Others rather be funny or assume you know terminology than actually let you know how to be successful.

i just picked up on ps extra. Some tips you didn't mention - Large healing items when at full life turn to resin that give 2 health slots. small and medium give 1. However large healing gives way more then 2x the integrity of small healing item especially if you upgrade healing efficiency. Recommend to think about when to pick up healing items in lower levels. Save a large until you are more then 50% damaged. Then pick up small one for max health upgrade. If you do the reverse you will partially heal then waste some of the potential of the large heal and get no resin. - in settings you can change sprint section from toggle to always. This makes you strafe and movement faster without having to worry about toggling it on every time you stop or dodge. you have to get used to in in non combat situations so you don't run off a ledge but the trade off for me was worth it. - in settings you can adjust your reticle size to large and auto aim to high. this is a preference thing, but if you are struggling this is the only real way to make the game "easier" as more of your bullets will land without you having to stop your movement and aim. - There consumables you have are dropped when you pick up a new one. these stay in location. there are a few that are worth saving and using strategically. one gives you max adrenaline is great to use just before boss room. Another removes all malfunctions. The fabricator room is a great place to pick up / buy a healing item you need in a pinch and drop one to save for later. Before leaving a level you may want to get two or 3 malignant items, fast travel back to place you saved item, remove malfunctions , then go to next biome. - While each biome is procedurly generated, each room is basically the same. You don't know what is behind each door when you start a run, but you after a few play throughs you should have a very good idea what enemies or traps are in room at a glance.

This game is so intimidating at first but that same intimidation at first is the enjoyment later on

I'm completely new to the game. I bought it for PC. I got to Phrike (3rd bar and got killed). In the following runs I died miserably over and over in the environment trying to harness more health (avoiding to get to Phrike with low resources). Keeping untouched is quite hard. Restoration beds aren't easy to find either, so planning to refill all life there and then collect the small items seems quite difficult. The only consistent way seems what you say: keep life as high as you can, collect enough orbolites, and then buy the life increase. I'll try to do so and see if I at least pass first biome (omg). This game is hard for rusty bad players like me. Thanks for the tips man.

Everything you said was good except for the skipping biomes. If you’re a new player you do not want to skip rooms unless you struggle with yellow rooms. You’re either good enough at the game to not need these tips, or you need as many buffs as you can get to steamroll through all three biomes. If you straight up skip biome two or four to get to three or six, when you died on biome three or six, you have a much smaller chance at getting the items you’ll need to complete the boss.

By far the best Beginner guide for this game

This game is incredibly hard when you first start playing it... but bit by bit you get the game mechanics down and it becomes more manageable. I suck at these games but was able to finish it... they were all good tips you provided. I agree about the Rotgland (?) being good.. I found biome 3 incredibly hard at first, but when I discovered that weapon I got through it.. from that point on I didn't lose a life for the rest of the game... later discovered the pylon driver which is equally as good, if not better.

My tip is you can leave most rooms anytime you want so you can slowly pick off enemies and retreat if your health is super low and save the challenge rooms for the end of the biome when your proficiency and health is highest

Turnstyle, aren’t you simply a delight! I especially love your passive aggressive slap to those who want to learn but can’t master anything after 120hrs and 3 restarts. Oh I know I’m a BAD player, that’s why I seek out tutorials… and there’s nothing better than being belittled because it was easy for you … Of course it was! You wouldn’t be on here making tutorials and making $ if it wasn’t easy for you to play. Imagine my tutorials “so you die here, here, here and here, and constantly return again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again - repeat x infinity… Stay humble 💜

Something I found out the hard way today: The reconstructor only works if you die inside the biome of that reconstructor. If you are doing too great, and proceed to the next biome without dying, charging the reconstructor is a waist of resources.

I find waiting till I have a higher proficiency and going back for chest super helpful for getting better weapons

My piece of advice is: always keep your distance (if possible) most enemies shoot orbs or lasers at you, and when you’re at a distance you can see them coming and have a few seconds to react and plan our your next move. Also, I believe the best two guns in the game are the ones that shoots a portal beam and turret, and lastly the the gun that shoots out red pylons that stuns and continues to hurt enemies even when you stop shooting them. This is great if you want to keep your distance from enemies. So, much easier than going head on, I think anyways. Edit: also, if you spawn into a room with a red glowing sphere, then it’s gonna spawn a big baddie. So, take out all the other smaller enemies or turrets as quickly as you can, but keep your eye on the red sphere. As soon as it spawns hit them with your alt fire. Then focus of them. Always does the trick for me.

Best guide I’ve seen so far my friend! Just got the game yesterday, got to the 2nd boss my first run. Your tips are going to greatly improve my future runs! I had no idea what I was doing at all with items / ether etc 🤣🖤

2 tips you laid out there that are completely wrong in my opinion. Don't be afraid to pick up malignant items if you feel the benefit outweighs the risk, alot of the times malignant items can be the Saving Grace of a run and push you further than you've been before. Also parasites can be straight up OP compared to the negative effect. I've gotten straight up extra lives or even huge chunks of extra health bar simply at the cost of less healing on healing items or slightly less weapon proficiency gains. They are both situational but very strong depending on your run.

There aren’t too many games that I’ve quit playing. Of those there is only one that I quit early on, and only one I quit because it was too difficult. And both of those, is Returnal. I’ve never had this much difficulty finishing the first level of anything. I got to the point where it was not fun anymore. I got to the point where the little bit of “progression“ they want you to feel you have each time you die is just not worth it. It’s incredibly demoralizing having to start from the very beginning when you make it to the boss. I uninstalled it. I consider my $30 spent as a lesson to look at games more carefully before buying. I try to know the bare minimum on games I think might have spoilers. But now I know that getting a spoiler is a better outcome then spending money on a game that makes my life hell.

Every time your health reaches to danger zone (red health) just Pause the game by pressing Esc and close the game by pressing Alt + F4 and restart the game. You will respawn at the same location.

Noob here talking. One thing I'd change in Returnal 2 is the adrenaline reset, and this idea of not taking damage. I'd much rather having the game push for aggression with mechanics that incentivize taking damage than with mechanics that punish for taking damage I mean, it's a multi enemy game with bullets flying all over the place, you'll constantly take damage. At least make me strategize around it, not fear it

12- 18 mins for the first biome . 😂 im 15 hours in and only passed the 1st biome once . Got to the second boss and died .

The 25% upgrade is not dependent on current max health. The % in there is very misleading. It always gives you the same increase.

Instead of opting for integrity I'd go for damage upgrade shops in other rooms. A dead enemy can't hurt your integrity and you don't give them the chance to fire bullets at you.

I keep waiting for a rogue like that I will enjoy, but I truly just don’t think I enjoy the genre. It’s kind of antithetical to everything I value in a game. I like progression, I like building up and accumulating things. In RPG’s I’m a hoarder with items, and I love leveling up and building my character, visiting different places and having my progress saved. I don’t like playing a one time through beat it games. I totally understand that there are SOME permanent carry overs from run to run, and I also understand that this seems to be a fairly popular genre that many enjoy. I just don’t think it’s for me, I’ve fizzled out of every single one I’ve tried, from Dead Cells to Returnal now.

The bed in the ship never healed an inch of my HP. I've tried it multiple times. I purposely lost HP to try it, all my stats remained the exact same.

I played this for a several hours and i am still confused. Each run restarts process completely? Even if i get to biom 3 etc ? That is insane.

After watching this i still have no idea what im doing. Was this a speedrun video..... Holy hell you talk and go through it so fast.

So grinding doesn matter ? I don't keep my large health o anything ?

When it comes to the dead Selenes you find, why do some of the bodies morph into a super tough zombie, tentacle monster while others give you the option to salvage or avenge? It’s really frustrating trying to anticipate what the game is going to throw at you sometimes. If you guess wrong you get annihilated.
