[Team Introduction]
Sabotage is a Yosakoi team based in Kochi, formed in 2001 by a group of Yosakoi enthusiasts. Initially supported by a beauty salon, the team eventually became independent and now consists of female members ranging from their teens to their 50s. These passionate and energetic dancers unite as one team, transcending age and experience, to spread the charm of Yosakoi.
The theme for their 2024 performance is "Party×3." This concept carries three meanings: a revenge "Party" for last year's missed opportunity, a celebratory "Party" for their return to the Yosakoi Festival after five years, and a commemorative "Party" marking their 20th participation in the festival. The music, characterized by its vibrant and pop-inspired melodies, is composed by Taku Yoshioka, while the costumes, a stylish fusion of Japanese and Western elements, are designed by Ueda Yasuko Fashion College.
A highlight of Sabotage's performance is the diverse formation changes and the vividly lit float that shines during night performances. They create a "party-like" atmosphere where dancers and spectators can enjoy together, leaving a lasting impression on all who watch.
[Yosakoi Festival]
The Yosakoi Festival is a lively event held annually from August 9th to 12th in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture. Launched in 1954 with the goal of revitalizing the local economy and uplifting the spirits of the citizens, the festival has grown into a vibrant celebration.
During the festival, around 190 teams and 20,000 dancers participate, energetically performing with naruko (wooden clappers) in hand. Each team competes with unique costumes, music, and choreography across 17 venues in Kochi City. On August 9th, the festivities begin with a pre-event, and on the 12th, the National Competition and a closing event take place, immersing the entire city in the festival's atmosphere.
The popularity of the Yosakoi Festival has spread nationwide, inspiring similar events such as the "YOSAKOI Soran Festival" in various regions. Moreover, Yosakoi has reached international audiences, with festivals held in countries like the United States, Canada, Australia, France, South Korea, and Taiwan, where the traditional Japanese culture blends with local customs to create unique Yosakoi styles.
