Reupholstered Thrift Store Ottoman

I found this ottoman at the thrift store for $13. It had good bones and was sturdy but the fabric was... dated and not a bit my style. Every piece of upholstered furniture is slightly different, but I'm sharing how I reupholstered this particular piece. I had to remove the old fabric piece by piece and used it as a template. I sewed cording and a new skirt for the ottoman. I slowly built it back one section at a time and it looks like a whole new piece of furniture!

Your skills are amazing! You have inspired me to give a try. I was quoted $500.+ the fabric to reupholster my ottoman!!! I’ll do it myself. Thanks for the easy to follow tutorial.

Great job !! I watched because I’m considering upholstering a large oval ottoman. It doesn’t have to have piping but the great tip you gave is to take the old upholstery off and use as a template - it was a light bulb moment for me - thanks 😊

It came out wonderful! I really love the way you mix traditional silhouettes and prints with a colorful vibe. It never comes across as too whimsical or juvenile, just perfect. Also, caught you on that cottage makeover show before Christmas when I was just clicking through the channels. So cool to see your design mind at work.

it is SO good! and believe it or not, i did the exact same thing......although, mine turned out NOTHING like yours😁(i don't even think i completed the doggone project)...even bought a sewing machine but am too intimidated by it. OH WELL, LIFE GOES ON. I HAD BIG PLANS FOR THAT OTTOMAN TOO!

I have an ottoman very much like yours that I have been intimidated to reupholster for years. I removed the old fabric years ago (no pictures 😕) and still have it for a pattern, but I’m going to have to guess on how to put the new pieces on. Thanks for the tip on the piping foot! Your ottoman turned out great!
