He's not on TV anymore not because of what you are hinting at though. My point was that back then, the majority of Americans were not offended, and there were other shows, not just white, that also played into this, and it was incredibly funny and not mean-spirited. You see, they are trying to dissolve race relations, and foment hatred between them, in order to better control the two sides. That's all this boils down to in the end. I wish parents would start at home with their kids and have the conversation early and often so that they don't get into the world doing this stuff for the rest of their life time. I lived in South Africa for nearly 45 years - much of that time during the dark days of apartheid. Then, Mandela was released from 27 years of prison and - despite having cause to harbour hatred and revenge against the regime, he chose to lead us to peace and respect - by a fine example of conciliation and forgiveness. Millions of Black South Africans had every reason to go on murderous rampages - but on the day we all voted for a new government (April 1994) we stood in long queues at the polling booths, calmly chatting, shaking hands and even some white people hugging our Black compatriots. You had a Mandela in Obama - but squandered the chance to develop into a caring, humanitarian society. And now... as other countries start to assume the mantle of world leadership, America will eventually be ignored. Very sad...

America needs to face its bigotry and overcome it. Bigotry on all fronts - racial, economic, gender-based, religious, class, political and national. Otherwise bigotry will tear America apart and make its people's subject to despotism. This is why America should listen seriously to historically discriminated-against groups for what they have to say. Ari's guests this evening speak with truth and dignity. They are more moral in their approach than Trump's supporters in government. As to the working class that supposedly are all Trump supporters (and by no means are all of them Trump supporters) - There seems to be a perception that they are to be excused their bigoted attitudes because they are not on the top of the social pile. But whatever your position in society you can still be a moral, decent, thinking person who supports his or her fellow humans. You don't need money to buy morality or decency or a mind or human kindness. There is no excuse for bigotry. None of us can claim superiority simply because of accidents of birth.
I remember " The Talk " my parents made to me and my brother when we were young children at 6 and 7 years old, saying that people were going to treat us differently than they treated us. We really didn't understand what they were trying to say. But I do remember that they said we were as good as anyone else. And as I got older and began to feel the hatred and racism that my mom and dad tried to buffer us against, I fight to hold on to what they tried to instill in us. But sometimes it gets so hard.
I'm glad you called out ABC. Yes, it's good they acted swiftly, but it was no secret to anyone that Roseanne _and_ her returning show were a representation of all the worst things from the "trump crowd" including racism, ignorance, and trolling behavior. Big corporations will put up with anything if they think it'll get them more money, and only act responsibly when doing otherwise will cost them. It was a mistake to bring that show back, and no one should have jumped back on board even as much as some may have needed the work.
In Roseanne’s defense, it’s hard to know the difference between racism that gets you fired versus racism that gets you elected President of the United States.
As a child of 10, I met my first racist who was just 8, taught by his parents. In fact my neighborhood of largely immigrants from Europe had a group of avid racists age 8-15. They were all taught racism by their parents. The most racist, most violent kid on our block grew up to be a Chicago Police Officer. He died before age 35 and was evil to the core. At age 10, my mother and I were walking down the street when we came upon this 8 year old and his mother. The 8 year old looked at us and said, "Are these the deigos, mommy?"
We MUST keep the race conversation going. If we want peace...we have to keep talking to one another, with respect, with honesty, with compassion. Peace friend ❤
