Rev. Nicks is one of the greatest gospel organists. His music is literally ALIVE. It makes your spirit come alive. That's what Gospel music should do; touch the spirit man and make it come alive unto God. Praise God! Thanks for the post.
CHARLES NICKS JR. WE CALLED HIM JUNIOR WAS MY COUSIN, I THANK GOD THAT I CAN STILL HEAR HIS MUSIC AS WELL AS HIS VOICE AND ALL THE MANY OTHERS THAT SUNG IN HIS CHOIRS AS WELL AS ATTENDED ST. JAMES. MY DAUGHTER WAS THE VERY LAST BABY TO BE CHRISTENED BY CHARLES AND WHEN I GET DOWN I RECALL THAT MEMORY AS WELL AS PLAY HIS MANY SONGS! I MISS HIM SO!
Those were the good old days! This is what I grew up on Detroit. Had the pleasure of Ms. Geraldine Dunkin (the soloist) being the accompanist for my choir class at Northwestern High School under the direction of the Late Brazil Dennard! Such memories!
I'm old school I love songs with a mean behind it and when the singer sing it that sang from the soul and I can feel what they singing "it was out of nowhere"
@MAJORSJA The soloist, Mrs. Geraldine Dunkin, was a consummate and anointed clasical pianist for the Detroit school system and had a spirit as sweet and soothing as witnessed by you. While gifted and a musical leader in Detroit, she was a comfortable and beautiful friend. Indeed her persona was one of the many blessings of being a member of St. James Baptist church during that era. She was a jewel of a woman and a spiritual mentor for me. Thanks for your sensitive and on-target witness.
OMG!!! I played the very grooves off of this record when it came out! Rev. Nick's organ playing was simply awesome and I'm not ashamed to say that I use his style as a model for my own playing. God bless you Bro. Marcell for bringing this music back to us!
AMEN AMEN BROTHER!!! This is the gospel from the 70's!! You are just bringing back the memories. All this music that I remember on Sundays in the SF Bay Area. What a treat to hear it again after so many years. We are lucky to have witnessed and know about this music. Rev Nicks and his peers who have gone on May they rest in Peace, knowing they left visible/audio footprints in the sands of time so that someone may find their way.
Playing this on my radio show the last Sunday of this year. We need to look back sometimes and thank God for bringing us this far... ESPECIALLY this year of 2020. Thanks for keeping these REAL gospel songs available Marcel.
Marcel... thank you so much for the beautiful uploads of the st. James music legacy.....is Geraldine Duncan yet alive? also, do u have footage of Jimmy Dowell's home going? dr. Velma Willis? and lastly, where is Renee Thomas?
Hey Beverly, Yes i do have footage of JD's Homegoing and Rev. Nicks Homegoing ass well. I don't have Dr. Velma Willis's, but i do have videos posted of her singing. Sis. Geraldyne Duncan made her transition March 6th, 1998. Her daughter Lynette is a member of my church. Evangelist Renae Thomas is doing well, She's a member of Pastor Marvin Winans Perfecting Church.
